Why we ordered the Special Hanwoo Gopchang Set at Midang Hanwoo Gopchang

Today I'm introducing a place near Garak Market where you don't have to think twice — the Special Hanwoo Gopchang Set, one full platter. I've eaten a lot of beef gopchang (grilled beef offal) platters, but this place keeps the good ingredients honest! And it's special because you get so many different parts on one plate, perfect as a drinking snack.

Here's my record of a perfect couple's date at Midang Hanwoo Gopchang. It was so good I nearly crawled home on all fours haha.

What comes in the 68,000 won Special Hanwoo Gopchang Set

Teuk-yang, makchang, daechang, yeomtong, beoljipyang, and gopchang all together — I wonder if there's anywhere else this generous with a mixed grill platter, letting you try every part. You don't need to order pieces separately; one platter of gopchang is already so satisfying that a single visit leaves you fully content.

Complimentary side dishes served with the meal

It comes free as a service!

Table of side dishes including kkakdugi and chive salad

The side dishes overall come out neat and clean! Well-fermented kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), chive salad, cheonyeop (beef tripe) and raw liver, a plum-based sauce, sesame oil dip, and even seasoned crab! *If you can't do raw liver, you can just grill it up nicely instead!

Grill houses usually splatter a lot of oil, so the tables can get a bit slippery — but this place was spotless! The table setting felt cared-for and the whole space was kept clean, which was reassuring.

How good is the daechang at Midang Hanwoo Gopchang?

The daechang quality here is honestly incredible

For offal dishes like gopchang or beef daechang, it's not the flashy seasoning or elaborate cooking method that matters — it's 'what ingredients did you start with,' which decides 90% of the flavor, right?

Hanwoo offal grilling without seasoning

Places that dump on heavy seasoning to mask off-flavors get tiresome fast and leave your stomach feeling heavy. This place is the real deal! They say they hand-select only top-grade ingredients, so if you want to enjoy genuine hanwoo gopchang, this might be the best spot around.

Golden-grilled makchang and yeomtong

Chewy makchang with a satisfying bite, and mild yeomtong that still carries the meat's own flavor — the balance of the set is perfect!

Grilled hanwoo gopchang full of rich fat
A single piece of hanwoo gopchang picked up with chopsticks

Crispy outside, full of savory, rich fat inside — it was so naturally delicious that every single bite felt precious. The more you chew, the more the savory flavor spreads through your whole mouth! A wave of sweetness rises up at the end — it's just too good.

Finishing with kkakdugi fried rice

What else would you finish with but fried rice?

Right when things start to feel a bit rich, order the fried rice as a side. Fried rice made with kkakdugi kicks your appetite right back into gear with deep umami — and eating a bit more gopchang alongside it, you end up unable to stop. It fills you up and made a perfect drinking snack too.

A bottle of soju each: how the set works as drinking food for two

A glass of soju paired with gopchang

Coming here, one bottle of soju per person is basically mandatory! The balance of savoriness and richness was so good that whether it's soju or beer, the drinks just went down easy — a dream pairing!

Final table spread at Midang Hanwoo Gopchang

The ultimate drinking snack that makes the alcohol go down smoothly, plus a friendly atmosphere — I'd recommend this place again and again :)
