Today I want to share my visit to Sannaemaeul Yang Kkochi & Qingdao, a great spot for whenever you're craving good Chinese food! This time I tried everything from lamb skewers to onmyeon (warm noodle soup), spicy stir-fried clams, and mini yangjangpi (cold jellyfish noodle salad). Spoiler: it was really delicious, haha. This time I visited Sannaemaeul Yang Kkochi & Qingdao in Unjeong, Paju. I was craving lamb skewers, and I'd heard you could enjoy a whole range of Chinese dishes here too, so I decided to check it out.

The interior wasn't huge, but it was pleasant overall and comfortable for a meal, with a bit of a cozy feel. Best of all, the owner looked after every little detail. Even though the place was full, I could tell they were paying attention to us throughout the meal, which made for a really pleasant experience.

The lamb skewers you can't skip

If you love lamb skewers, they'll probably be the first thing that catches your eye at Sannaemaeul Yang Kkochi & Qingdao. I was really looking forward to them too, haha. While the skewers were grilling, we got to enjoy the other dishes as well, so the wait never felt boring.

The lamb skewers had that distinctive flavor that paired really well with the other Chinese dishes. After eating several other dishes and coming back to the skewers, they felt fresh all over again. Honestly, out of everything we ate that day, the lamb skewers are the dish I'll keep thinking about.

Onmyeon: a warm, comforting noodle soup

We ordered onmyeon to go along with the lamb skewers! Having a warm soup dish alongside made the meal feel more substantial. It offered a different feel from eating just skewers, so it was nice to have in between bites. I personally love pairing lamb skewers with a noodle dish, and this combo didn't disappoint.

Spicy stir-fried clams with real heat

Of everything we had at Sannaemaeul Yang Kkochi & Qingdao, the spicy stir-fried clams left the biggest impression! The name alone promised a spicy kick, and it was a nice contrast to the lamb skewers.

It had that distinct charm of authentic Chinese food while still suiting Korean tastes really well. I think that kind of harmony is exactly why the food that day was so good — familiar, yet with its own unique appeal that's different from typical dishes. It made me glad we ordered several menu items together.

Mini yangjangpi: a generous cold platter

Next up, mini yangjangpi. Between the lamb skewers, warm noodle dish, and spicy clams, it was already fun tasting so many different dishes. Adding the mini yangjangpi made the table feel even more abundant. Lamb skewers alone are great, but ordering several Chinese dishes together like this lets you appreciate the different charm each one brings.

The free bean sprout stir-fry from the owner

And here's the part that made me happy! The owner also gave us a bean sprout stir-fry on the house. That kind of thoughtful attention to detail was really nice, and it made the meal even more enjoyable. The place wasn't huge, but it was pleasant, and the owner's care for every detail is what stuck with me.

Soju instead of Qingdao when you're already full

Qingdao beer is usually the first thing that comes to mind with lamb skewers, but since we were already full, we went with soju instead, haha. Lamb skewers and soju is a combo you just can't skip, right?! Tasting each of the various Chinese dishes one by one with a glass of soju made the meal even more fun. Having a spicy dish like the stir-fried clams alongside the skewers made it especially good to pair with a variety of food.

Peanuts with zira: how locals eat them

One more thing that quietly stuck with me: the basic side dish of peanuts, haha. They're nutty and tasty on their own, but I'd also recommend dipping them lightly in the zira (cumin spice) used for the lamb skewers. Adding that distinctive spice flavor to the nutty peanuts gives you a whole different taste.

It's great to pop one in between bites of skewer, and it's a small tip for enjoying the basic side dish in a different way. Of course, I'd recommend dipping just a little zira at a time, to your own taste!

The place wasn't very spacious, but it was pleasant, and the owner's attentiveness made for a comfortable meal.
