Dongtan jjamppong restaurant, Sunday dinner: extra-large at Bultina
In short
Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is a Chinese restaurant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi specialising in cockle jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), right beside the public parking lot in front of Dongtan Namgwangjang. A couple with a low spice tolerance came for Sunday dinner and ordered an extra-large level 1 cockle jjamppong at 11,000 won and a small tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) at 17,000 won, plus free fried dumplings from the review event. The broth at Bultina is deep and bracing, and digging the cockles out is fun enough to make it a hangover-cure spot worth remembering.

Here's my review of Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch, a jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) restaurant in Dongtan.

My boyfriend and I were trying to decide where to go for dinner, and I got a craving for hearty jjamppong, so we headed to Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch. Long story short — the spicy broth with cockles to fish out was so fun that even though we said we were full, we kept eating until the very end.

Where is Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch, and where do you park?
Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch sits near Dongtan Namgwangjang, and you can use the public parking lot right in front of the restaurant. It's free for 1 hour 30 minutes, so it's no burden even if you drive.

- 🕒 Hours: Daily 10:40–21:00, last order 20:20
- 🚗 Parking: Public parking lot in front available, free for 1 hour 30 minutes

There's a public parking lot right in front of the restaurant, and it's quite spacious, so driving there is convenient.

Not having to circle around looking for parking was something I personally really appreciated.
Inside Bultina: a roomy dining room, solo window seats and a self-serve bar
The inside of Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch was bigger, brighter, and cleaner than I expected. There's separate window-side seating for solo diners, which looked comfortable for eating alone.

We went a bit earlier than typical Sunday dinner time, so there was no wait, but quite a few customers were already eating.

There's separate window-side solo seating, so the layout seemed like you could come in alone for jjamppong without feeling awkward at all — great for solo dining.

On one side there's a self-serve bar, so if you run out of the basic side dishes while eating, you can just help yourself to more.

Each table also comes with red pepper flakes, soy sauce, and vinegar set up as basics.
Bultina menu prices and how the cockle jjamppong spice levels work
At Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch, cockle jjamppong is ₩11,000, cockle jjamppong rice is also ₩11,000, jajangmyeon is ₩8,000, and the small tangsuyuk is ₩17,000. The cockle jjamppong's spice level is adjustable, so if you can't handle spicy food, it's worth checking the level before ordering.

They said level 1 is about as spicy as Shin Ramyun, and level 2 is about like Buldak, so since my boyfriend and I both can't handle spicy food, we ordered a large level 1 cockle jjamppong with a small tangsuyuk.
Extra-large level 1 cockle jjamppong: mild enough if you can't take heat?
The large level 1 cockle jjamppong was hearty with a rich broth, perfect as a hangover cure, and the spiciness was the kind that quietly builds up as you eat. The basic side dishes were just danmuji (pickled radish), onion, and chunjang (black bean paste) — a compact set of just what you need.

🍽️ Large level 1 cockle jjamppong

The jjamppong came out faster than I expected, and with chives on top of the red broth and a generous dusting of black pepper, it looked spicy just from appearance alone. I tried a spoonful of the broth first — oh, this is pretty rich.

It's hearty with a rich broth flavor — the kind of thing that would be perfect as a hangover cure the day after drinking! Level 1 is the kind of spiciness that quietly builds up as you eat, so if you're bad with spicy food like me, I'd recommend level 1.

And true to its name, cockle jjamppong doesn't just have one or two cockles thrown in for show — they kept showing up as I ate the noodles, and again as I stirred the broth. My boyfriend doesn't eat cockles at all, but he said the broth surprisingly didn't have a strong cockle flavor, so as long as he avoided the cockles themselves, it was totally edible like a regular spicy jjamppong.

If you're visiting with someone who dislikes cockles, this might be useful to know. Anyway, thanks to that, all the cockles ended up being mine, haha.
Small tangsuyuk at Bultina: sauce already poured, but still crispy
The small tangsuyuk (₩17,000) at Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch comes in the saucy style with the sauce already poured on, and the portion was quite generous for a small size. As someone who prefers dipping sauce on the side, that was the one disappointing part for me.
🍽️ Small tangsuyuk

The tangsuyuk also came out faster than expected, and I was a little surprised by how generous the portion was for a small size. My one personal disappointment is that I'm strictly a dip-it-yourself person, and this one comes with the sauce already poured on.

Still, the batter wasn't too soggy and kept a decent crispness, so it was fine. The sauce wasn't overly sweet or sharp either — just the right amount of sweetness, an easy flavor to keep reaching for. Eating it together with onion added a nice crunchy texture too.

The meat inside was also fairly thick. Personally I prefer dipping tangsuyuk in soy sauce rather than the sweet sauce, so I ate some pieces with the sauce as-is and dipped others in soy sauce.

A bite of hearty jjamppong, then a bite of tangsuyuk... going from spicy to savory-sweet and back to spicy again, it was a combination I couldn't stop eating.
Free fried dumplings from the review event
Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is also running a review event where you can get free fried dumplings or a drink for participating. I got fried dumplings from my review, but by that point I'd already eaten jjamppong and tangsuyuk, so I was really stuffed.
I thought I'd just eat one dumpling and stop, but they came freshly fried, crispy on the outside and warm, so I kept reaching for more and ended up finishing them all... I really ate until I was bursting, and had to walk for a long time afterward to digest.
Final verdict and tips for visiting Bultina in Dongtan

📌 What I liked
The parking lot was spacious, making it easy to visit by car, and the restaurant was big and clean, making it comfortable for a meal. The cockle jjamppong's hearty, rich broth was impressive, and fishing out the cockles one by one was fun. The small tangsuyuk portion was also generous enough for two people.
📌 What was a bit disappointing
Purely a matter of personal preference, but I was a little disappointed that the tangsuyuk came saucy-style. Still, since the crispy texture of the fried batter held up well, it wasn't a big deal once I started eating.
📌 Who I'd recommend this to
- Anyone who loves hearty, rich jjamppong
- Anyone looking for a hangover-cure meal the day after drinking
- Anyone who loves cockles
- Anyone looking for a restaurant with easy parking near Dongtan Namgwangjang
- Anyone looking for a comfortable place to eat jjamppong alone
📌 Would I return
Next time I want to try the cockle jjamppong rice too. Mixing rice into the leftover broth after finishing the noodles is another treat in itself. As we were leaving after our meal, I noticed there's a coffee machine near the entrance, so it seemed like a nice spot to grab a coffee on your way out. This was a jjamppong restaurant near Dongtan Namgwangjang worth stopping by whenever you're craving a hearty hangover-cure meal.
