Yuksul, the raw beef bar in Gojan, Ansan that I love so much, and this is my 7th visit..🤎

Friday night at 10:30pm: three groups waiting

I visited around 10:30pm on a Friday, and there was a wait of 3 teams. Maybe because it's such a good light second-round spot, even at that late hour it was fully booked plus a wait🔥

Ordering the Yuksul Hansang platter (58,000 won) with the mungban swap (3,000 won)

Yuksul specializes in raw Korean beef, but they've also got a variety of main menu items for people who can't eat raw meat!

I usually order the Korean beef sashimi or yukhoe at Yuksul, but this time I had friends who were visiting for the first time, so we went with the signature Yuksul Hansang set.

• Yuksul Hansang set — ₩58,000
• Mungban swap — ₩3,000 (swaps half the sashimi for mungtigi / weekdays only)

Mungtigi can only be served on weekdays since the slaughterhouse is closed on weekends and holidays, so if you're visiting on a weekday, definitely try it!

What's on the 7-item Hansang platter, and how to eat it

This drinking-food platter lets you enjoy yukhoe (beef tartare), sashimi, mungtigi, gimtae gimbap (dried seaweed rice roll), vegetable rolls, smoked cheese, and shiitake mushroom — 7 items — all at once. The Korean beef is slaughtered the same day and brought in directly from Daegu, so you get it fresh. This pretty much means you don't even need to go to Daegu for mungtigi anymore, right?

How to enjoy the set 📝

• 1. Handmade meat sauce + dried seaweed or aged kimchi
• 2. Sashimi + garlic oil sauce + shiitake mushroom
• 3. Yukhoe + black sesame sauce
• 4. Yukhoe + poached-egg sauce + water parsley
• 5. Yukhoe + gimtae gimbap + dried sweet potato

It's delicious on its own, but even better combined. Every combination is genuinely tasty with its own distinct charm, so I'd recommend trying them all 🤎

Beef and radish soup with free refills

The beef radish soup that comes with the Hansang set and other signature sets. It's not the clear, light kind but rich and deep, and it's known to be genuinely delicious. It was so packed with ingredients I'd have believed it was a soup sold separately. And the soup can be refilled endlessly!

It was so good I couldn't hold back. Made with Jeju radish, Korean beef brisket, and beef stew meat — this beef radish soup is a legit standout.. And the water at Yuksul is the classic hutgae water..👍

Icy soju and Suntory draft beer at Yuksul

I clearly came for a light second round but it was so good I knocked back 3 bottles of soju..🤦🏾‍♀️ The soju came out slushy-icy so it was refreshing to drink. I also ordered a draft beer, and Suntory The Premium Malt's had a smooth finish with a clean taste. Draft beer quality apparently depends heavily on upkeep, and Yuksul says they systematically maintain it every day🍻

Restrooms and the two-floor layout

It's rare for bars in Gojan-dong to have an in-store restroom, but Yuksul has a women's restroom inside on the 2nd floor. It was kept spotlessly clean, and stocked with cotton swabs, mouthwash, dental floss, hair ties, and feminine products — you could really feel the owner's thoughtful care. (Men need to use the building's shared restroom)

The store has a duplex layout that feels open, with generous spacing between tables — it'd make a great spot for a work dinner or gathering.

The receipt review roulette event

You can also join a roulette event by writing a receipt review. (Once per table)

• 1st prize: a ₩50,000 gift certificate — rarer than getting struck by lightning
• 2nd prize: also a rare chance, a ₩30,000 gift certificate

My friend, who dreamed of 1st prize but has the world's clumsiest hands, spun it earnestly and landed on something adorably cute…^_^/ Instead of something I'd feel bad buying with my own money for 6th prize, they got this! For 7th prize.. ugh, it's cute but I can't even explain it, anyway, cute! Is this 6th or 7th place..?

Would I go back to Yuksul?

For reference, Yuksul is apparently part of the same family as Gisul in Jungang-dong and Banwolga in Gojan-dong. Even on my 7th visit, I'm still fully satisfied! Please stay in business for a long, long time. My revisit intention: 100% 🙏🏿
