Yongin posture clinic: shoulder and pelvis analysis, Joseph Therapfit

In short

Joseph Therapfit is a posture-analysis and corrective exercise center on the 5th floor of Sinbong Jonghap Sangga in Suji-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi. A mother took her 20-something son, whose left shoulder, upper back, knees and soles had bothered him since he started weight training, through a 2-day trial at Joseph Therapfit covering consultation, posture analysis and a before-and-after comparison. Two sessions did not fix everything, but because Joseph Therapfit traced the problem from shoulder down to foot, they came away understanding how he actually uses his body.

My son has been working out consistently lately and talks about it a lot. At some point he started saying his left shoulder and back felt uncomfortable.

It's not that it hurts badly during exercise, but certain movements put more strain on the left side, and after workouts his shoulder blade area gets stiff. On top of that, his soles and knees were sometimes uncomfortable too, so he wanted to figure out for himself whether this was just something to rest through, or whether he needed actual posture correction.

So this time my son and I tried a 2-day posture correction trial at Joseph Therapfit in Suji.

What happens in the first-day consultation?

On day one at Joseph Therapfit, they didn't jump straight into exercise — a consultation came first, along with a self posture-diagnosis test.

The consultation involved detailed, thorough questions.

What are your everyday habits like? What kind of exercise do you do? And which areas feel uncomfortable? And so on.

The trainer was calm and professional, which built trust throughout the consultation, and even my picky son was nodding along in agreement.

After the detailed interview, it was time to change clothes to check posture, alignment, and movement! Then in the posture analysis lab, they checked his spine shape, pelvis position, and foot pressure.

During the check, they used stickers on bony landmarks to closely examine everything from shoulder position and shoulder blade movement to pelvis and leg alignment, gait, knees, and feet.

Left-right differences in the shoulders and shoulder blades

In Joseph Therapfit's posture analysis, my son's shoulders were generally dropped, with the left shoulder rolled forward slightly more than the right. They also explained there were left-right differences in shoulder blade movement.

This connected to something my son had said before — that his left side felt like it moved differently during workouts — and he was pretty surprised to hear it confirmed. He'd always assumed it was just something that happens from working out, but seeing the actual movement analyzed and explained made him look at his own body a bit differently.

Posture analysis session checking shoulder and shoulder blade movement

When my son mentioned that pulling exercises or pull-ups at the gym felt different on each side, they explained it wasn't necessarily that the exercise itself was wrong — rather, using a large range of motion without accounting for his current alignment and movement patterns could strain the shoulder.

Knee, pelvis and foot alignment

They checked his standing posture and leg rotation, examining knees, pelvis, hip joints, and feet all together. In my son's case, there were left-right differences in the rotation of the femur and tibia and in knee alignment.

They explained this could cause compensatory movement in the pelvis or lower back while walking. His hamstrings also tend to be tight, and hip joint and glute movement weren't sufficient, which could keep the desired movement pattern from showing up during lower body exercises.

The surprise: the soles of his feet

The discomfort in his soles wasn't just a foot problem after all

My son sometimes felt a sudden pulling discomfort in the middle of his sole, and the consultation explained that his foot arch is on the lower side, and needs to be looked at together with leg rotation. (A slight flat-foot feel? His arch is lower than mine, actually.)

So rather than just massaging the sole when it's uncomfortable, it's important to check the alignment and movement of the whole chain — foot, knee, and pelvis together.

A lower back without enough curve

His lower back doesn't have enough of its normal curve, and it's slightly bent.

Combined with tight hamstrings and limited pelvis/hip joint movement, they explained the lower back could end up compensating for that missing movement.

What stuck with me was the point that especially for people who work out hard, it's not just about increasing weight or reps — it matters more to first understand your own body's alignment and movement.

I recently had a PT session myself, and heard something similar — that keeping your basic form intact reduces joint damage. Felt like the same idea.

Homework to do at home after day one

Day 1 pillow setup mission

After day one at Joseph Therapfit, they gave us homework to do at home for shoulder and neck correction. At first we tried raising the legs using a foam roller, and also followed a pillow setup they showed us. Honestly, we weren't super diligent about it every day. 😅 We did it the first few days, but after that it was more like whenever we happened to remember.

Still, my son noticed one thing clearly — when he consciously engaged his glutes while walking, his knees felt less burdened than usual. (I should try that too — my knees have been acting up lately too, ugh.) Seeing this made me realize how much everyday habits matter, on top of the time spent at the center.

What changed on day two?

Practicing at home was hard, but both day one and day two's pillow setup at the center felt comfortable, he said.

After the correction work, his shoulder and shoulder blade movement felt a bit freer when he went to the gym, and the alignment position had also improved.

Two sessions didn't give 100% relief, but it does seem like things got a bit more comfortable.

Side posture check of pelvic anterior tilt

Compared to the start, the degree of pelvic anterior tilt had eased somewhat. And the knee and sole discomfort he used to mention when standing for long periods was also less than before. Of course, two sessions alone can't be said to have changed everything — if anything, this experience mostly taught us how much everyday body use matters.

Before and after: the posture comparison photos

Joseph Therapfit before-and-after posture analysis data

Comparing the before-and-after data the center captured, seeing the changes in numbers at a glance made me trust the analysis and corrective exercise more.

Comparison data of day one and day two alignment measurements

On day one there were some things that stood out about pelvic tilt and shoulder position, but the day two data showed some of the alignment had shifted.

Comparison of pelvic tilt and shoulder position changes

Looking at the photos alone, the difference might not seem huge, but having watched the process up close and knowing what was being tracked, it stood out more to me. Most of all, what stuck with me is that my son said himself, "My shoulder movement and knee pain feel more comfortable than at the start."

How connected a 20-something's body turned out to be

At first I just thought, "his left shoulder is a bit uncomfortable when he works out" — but the consultation made it interesting to see it wasn't just a shoulder issue.

Shoulder → shoulder blade → spine → pelvis → knee → foot are all connected to each other,

and hearing that when one area doesn't move enough, another area may compensate for it made me rethink his everyday exercise posture. Above all, I realized it's worth checking in on how your body moves when discomfort keeps recurring, rather than waiting until the pain gets worse to deal with it. Just like my son did!!

📝 An honest review from the mom who watched it all

Joseph Therapfit center space and exercise equipment

Watching the consultation up close, it was interesting to see the shoulder, back, sole, and knee discomfort my son had always mentioned get connected and checked one by one. What stood out most was that it wasn't just exercise at the center and done — they also talked about what posture to maintain at home and how to use your body day to day. Most of all, I loved that it became a moment for my son to understand his own body's condition himself.

Not how long you exercise, but knowing how your body actually moves.

That's the lesson we walked away with here. 🙂
