Yakisoba date night in Songdo, Incheon: Jojo Triple Street

In short

Jojo Triple Street Branch is a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant in Yeonsu, Incheon. After an eight-party Friday-night wait, we shared the 39,000 won Signature Set for Two with kara yakisoba, donpeiyaki, and okonomiyaki. Verdict: the smoky, springy yakisoba made the wait worthwhile.

Atmosphere during a visit to Jojo at Songdo Triple Street

I did not have any particular plans after work, ㅠㅠ but I still wanted to make it feel like Friday night, so I headed to Songdo Triple Street. With one great restaurant after another, it is perfect for that Friday-night mood, and it was still buzzing with energy.!!! Did you know there is a must-visit restaurant from Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars right at Songdo Triple Street?

Jojo, teppanyaki from a Culinary Class Wars contestant

Jojo, a restaurant featured on Culinary Class Wars

Jojo is famous for being run by the Teppanyaki Captain, who appeared on Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars Season 2. If someone is good enough to appear on Culinary Class Wars, their skills are basically already proven—there was no reason not to go.

Jojo in Building C at Songdo Triple Street

It started in Seongsu and used to have locations only in Seoul, but I heard it opened in Songdo last year, so I visited with high expectations. Being able to enjoy the same food without going all the way to Seoul was such welcome news for a date course, too.

How long was the Friday-evening wait?

We arrived around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, and there were already eight parties waiting.ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ The wait was about an hour, although a group wanting a four-person table was seated in just 10 minutes. If waiting feels daunting, I recommend going after 9 p.m. or visiting as a group of four. Naver reservations are available for the first weekday slots (11:30 / 17:00), while other times can be booked by walk-in or through Catchtable.

Teppanyaki tables and a cozy dining room

Jojo's wood-toned interior

The wood-toned interior and bright lighting made the whole place feel cozy.

Jojo table with a built-in griddle

There are single, two-person, and four-person tables, each with its own griddle, which was lovely for keeping everything nice and hot.!

Spicy sauce, Jojo sauce, and mayo sauce come as the standard setup.

There are baskets beneath the tables for storing your belongings, too. Even though it is teppanyaki, the ventilation worked so well that there was barely any smoke or smell. I had worn a date outfit and worried that it would pick up food smells, but the room was comfortable enough to make that worry feel silly.

Single seats for solo dining and drinks

The front is an open kitchen, so you can watch okonomiyaki being cooked on the large griddle. There are also three single seats, so although it is a popular place with waits, you can comfortably come alone for a meal or a drink.

Ordering the Signature Set for Two

Jojo Signature Set menu

The main menu was divided into four different sets. We chose the Signature Set for Two to match our party size and added two 200 ml draft beers. The set was ₩39,000, plus two ₩4,000 beers, for a total of about ₩47,000.

Ordering with a nickname card

Nickname card ordering system

The ordering process was unusual. They give you this cute card: write your nickname on the order slip, list your menu choices on the back, and hand it to the staff. They said they cut out the nickname section and stick it into the okonomiyaki. Little events like that are fun, right?

Review event

And the Naver review event that always feels oddly disappointing to miss! You can get a complimentary soft drink, too.

Kara yakisoba with real smoky flavor

Kara yakisoba topped with egg yolk

Break the egg yolk on top of the yakisoba (Japanese stir-fried noodles) and mix it through—it brings the flavor alive even more. Stir-fried quickly over high heat, the noodles were bouncy and full of smoky wok flavor. Pork and shrimp added sweet-salty and spicy notes, and I could not put my chopsticks down. I could see why it is popular enough to earn the nickname “the yakisoba of your life.”

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can get a yakisoba size-up coupon from the Naver detail page, so make sure to claim it if you visit for lunch.

Donpeiyaki with ground mustard

Donpeiyaki filled with pork and vegetables

Donpeiyaki is a Japanese-style omelet. It is filled with pork and vegetables, and the ground mustard added a spicy kick that made it especially interesting.

Donpeiyaki with a soft egg texture

It had a juicy quality, while the egg’s signature soft texture lingered afterward.

Okonomiyaki with the sweetness of cabbage

Okonomiyaki generously coated in sauce

The okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) arrived generously coated in sauce, but because it was so thick, it was not as salty or heavy as I expected. This was the first time I realized cabbage could be such a delicious ingredient. The moment I took a bite, its distinct sweetness and nutty flavor spread first, followed by layers of meat, seafood, and savory sauce.

It was a moment that reminded me cabbage can be this delicious even as the main ingredient. The special soy sauce-based sauce and mayonnaise made the flavor feel even richer. They say it is cooked at high heat on a custom-made large griddle while preserving the traditional Osaka method, and it really did feel different. It was completely unlike frozen okonomiyaki or the kind served as an izakaya snack.

Authentic Osaka-style okonomiyaki

It felt like authentic okonomiyaki, the kind you would eat as a proper meal in Japan, brought straight over.

Tip for an even tastier griddle temperature

Ask the staff to turn up your griddle temperature a little, and they will adjust it right away. We ate ours slightly hotter than the default setting, and it was much more delicious served piping hot.

Why I recommend it for dates and family visits

Jojo teppanyaki recommended for a Friday date night

This is the first place I would recommend to couples wanting a Friday-night atmosphere. If you enjoyed Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars, you will find it even more fun. Despite being teppanyaki, there is no need to worry about odors, so it is easy to go on a date in an outfit you put thought into.

High chairs available at Jojo

There are high chairs, too, so I think it would be a good choice for families visiting with children.

What makes Jojo special

Jojo griddle with adjustable temperature

I think Jojo’s special points can be summed up in two ways. First, you can adjust the griddle temperature to your liking. The default temperature was fine, but asking for it to be raised a little made the food even hotter and more enjoyable. Second, the set menu lets you try several dishes at once. It was nice to taste okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and donpeiyaki without ordering each one separately.

Final thoughts and whether I would return

Final thoughts on Jojo at Songdo Triple Street

I came to Songdo Triple Street hoping for a Friday-night mood, and Jojo made it a satisfying visit. If I had to rank them, I liked the yakisoba first, then the donpeiyaki, then the okonomiyaki.

Monjayaki, the Jojo dish I want to try on a return visit

I definitely want to return next time to try the monjayaki.
