Korean BBQ dinner with mom before a movie at Giun, Gangnam Station
In short
Giun Gangnam Station Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Bangbang Sageori, between Gangnam Station and Yangjae Station in Seoul. Before a movie with her mom, the writer ordered the Donggiun Set (galbi-samgyeop, pork neck, outer skirt meat), had the staff grill it all, dipped it in salt, grilled scallion soy sauce, myeongi namul, and baek-kimchi, and finished with cheese-topped fried rice. Her mom, trying bone-in pork belly for the first time, loved it enough to want a family revisit.

Hi! It's Journey.
I found a genuinely delicious samgyeopsal (pork belly) spot near Bangbang Sageori, between Yangjae Station and Gangnam Station 👀 My husband introduced me to bone-in pork belly back when we were dating and I fell in love with it — this is a restaurant that serves exactly that. Since I had plans to see a movie with my mom, we went there for dinner. A staff member grilled everything for us, so I didn't have to worry about my terrible grilling skills, and it came out perfectly cooked. Such an easy, comfortable dinner.

It's about a 10-minute walk from either Gangnam Station or Yangjae Station. If you're taking the bus, get off at Bangbang Sageori! Parking is difficult, so you'll need to use a nearby public parking lot.

Set menu composition and prices
- Giun Set ₩60,000 — galbi-samgyeop 600g
- Dongiun Set ₩58,000 — galbi-samgyeop 200g, pork neck 200g, outer skirt meat 150g
- Sulgiun Set ₩59,000 — galbi-samgyeop 200g, pork jowl 150g, gabrisal 150g
Every set menu comes with an assorted vegetable platter. The meats are all aged, so you just pick your favorite type... ! I'd recommend having the galbi-samgyeop as your base 🌟 The side dishes on offer are also the classics you'd expect at a Korean BBQ place.

They have wine, whiskey, and traditional liquor, plus soju and beer! Giun Gangnam Station Main Branch even offers corkage-free service, so it would be great for a date or whenever you want to set the mood with a glass of wine. Since I wanted to try a variety, I ordered the Dongiun Set — you get to enjoy galbi-samgyeop, pork neck, and outer skirt meat.

The basic side dishes: scallion kimchi and marinated gungchae
These are the basic banchan that come with the set. The seasoned lettuce salad was tangy and really got my appetite going. I tasted each one before the meat arrived, and every single side dish that was meant to go with the meat was delicious. The scallion kimchi was a highlight, and the marinated gungchae (aster stem) was legit good too 🥹

Great atmosphere for a wedding invitation gathering or a work dinner
Giun Gangnam Station Main Branch is a great spot for a wedding invitation gathering near Gangnam Station! It's a BBQ place, but the atmosphere is so nice it works for dates as well as invitation get-togethers. With comfortable tables and chairs, and the staff grilling the meat for you, it's easy to keep talking — perfect for a work dinner or group gathering.

Meat grilled on this pan is bound to be delicious!! The charcoal condition looked so good that I was already excited before the cooking even started.

The Dongiun Set, generously loaded with vegetables
Our ordered Dongiun Set arrived 😋 Bracken fern, water dropwort, cheongyang peppers, and green onions — plenty of vegetables served alongside the galbi-samgyeop, pork neck, and outer skirt meat. I always grill vegetables with the meat since meat alone gets greasy, so I was very satisfied with how many there were.

The color of the meat was insane! I love bone-in pork belly so much that the galbi-samgyeop was what I was most curious about. Even accounting for the bone, the portion of meat was quite generous. The quality of pork neck varies a lot between restaurants, and Giun's pork neck looked like it had a nice balance of lean meat and fat.

Galbi-samgyeop, grilled by the staff
They put the vegetables on first, then started grilling the galbi-samgyeop. It was noticeably thicker than regular pork belly, and it looked perfect from the moment it hit the pan.

They flipped it without cutting and kept grilling. Galbi-samgyeop really seems to require some grilling skill. Having the staff grill it for us meant we didn't need to worry about it at all, and it came out even more delicious as a result.

They cut it into these big, thick pieces, and biting into one big chunk released so much juice that I actually said out loud, wow, this is really good.

The recommended order for enjoying Giun's meat
They gave us the meat piece by piece as it finished cooking. I tried following the recommended eating order.
* How to enjoy Giun the tastiest way * [For every cut, the first bite goes in Himalayan pink salt]
- 1. Grilled scallion + soy sauce
- 2. Myeongi namul (wild garlic leaf) + wasabi
- 3. Miso mustard + marinated gungchae
- 4. Seasoned lettuce + fermented seafood
As always, meat really does taste best dipped in salt on that first bite. The juices burst out, the texture was chewy, and the savory, rich flavor of the meat was just art 🥹🤍

They lined up the galbi-samgyeop neatly on top of the vegetables so nothing would burn. Eating the well-cooked vegetables together with the meat made it more fun and even tastier.

As instructed, I tried dipping the grilled green onion in soy sauce, and also tried the myeongi namul and wasabi combo. With so many different sauces to try, mixing it up brought out more umami and doubled the flavor of the meat.

They grilled the green onion and soaked it deep in soy sauce, so the flavor really soaked in!

The baek-kimchi (white kimchi) grilled alongside the meat was a real delicacy too ⭐️ I wrapped a piece of meat in the baek-kimchi and took a bite — the tangy, well-fermented kimchi completely cut through the richness.

How were the pork neck and outer skirt meat?
After the galbi-samgyeop, they grilled the pork neck for us! Quality matters for pork neck, but grilling it wrong can also make it dry, so how it's cooked really matters too.

The pork neck was grilled so well that all we had to do was enjoy it. Taking a bite of the plump pork neck, the fluffy texture was great, and it had a leaner, cleaner flavor than the galbi-samgyeop — delicious in a different way.

While we were still eating the pork neck, they started grilling the outer skirt meat too. It was thinner and cooked quickly, and switching back and forth between pork neck and outer skirt meat meant we never got tired of it and enjoyed every bite until the end 👍
Why I'd recommend this Gangnam Station BBQ restaurant
Having the staff grill everything was so comfortable, and it was great not having to worry about burning the meat. If you're not confident grilling meat yourself, you're constantly on edge about it 😅 On top of that, the meat quality was excellent — juicy, chewy, savory, and so delicious that I already want to come back with my family next time 👐 I also loved getting to try the galbi-samgyeop cut. It was my mom's first time having bone-in pork belly, and she was very satisfied, saying it was so good.

Finishing off with cheese-topped Giun fried rice
After finishing all the meat and side dishes, which were so good, we decided to try a side menu too. We debated between the doenjang sulbap (soybean paste rice) and the fried rice, and went with the Giun fried rice with cheese added. This is a flavor women will love ‼️ It's an oily fried rice, so it was perfect as a drinking snack, and it had corn kernels mixed in too, which made it even better. It was topped with a generous amount of cheese for a nice savory finish 🤍
