Guwol-dong sashimi restaurant lunch set shared for two: Veteran
In short
Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch is a raw fish (hoe) restaurant in Namdong, Incheon, one alley over from the Guwol-dong Rodeo strip on the road toward the National Pension Service. From the Jin/Seon/Mi lunch sashimi sets, the writer ordered the Seon set, which comes with grilled saury, plus the assorted sushi lunch platter at 13,000 won, and shared both with a companion: 16 pieces of sashimi for two, along with spicy fish stew, tempura, sushi and seasoned raw fish. With unlimited self-serve kimchi pancakes at the side bar, Veteran General Fish Market is excellent value for lunch in Guwol-dong.

I always used to walk past this place, only ever noticing the banner advertising a sashimi set for ₩13,900, but this time I finally sat down for lunch at Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch, a well-known raw fish restaurant in Guwol-dong. Here's how it went.
Where is Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch?
Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch isn't right in the bustling Guwol-dong Rodeo square — it's one street over, on the way to the National Pension Service. I didn't take a photo of the outside, but it's not hard to find.

Here's what the inside looks like. I figured a Guwol-dong sashimi place like this would be packed in the evenings, but even at early lunchtime there were quite a few people — probably drawn in by the great-value lunch specials.

Jin, Seon or Mi: which Guwol-dong lunch sashimi set to order
We came for the lunch set!! This Guwol-dong sashimi restaurant's lunch specials come in Jin, Seon, and Mi options, and while all three include sashimi, sushi, tempura, and spicy fish stew, each has a slightly different lineup. We went with the Seon set, which comes with grilled saury.

And one of us ordered the assorted sushi (lunch) to share haha. The same assorted sushi is ₩15,000 off the regular menu, but the lunch version is ₩13,000.

The self-serve bar and unlimited kimchi pancakes
And then there's the self-serve bar at Veteran General Fish Market. Corn salad, lettuce for wraps that go well with sashimi, cabbage salad, aged kimchi — plenty of side dishes at this Guwol-dong sashimi spot. But the real standout is...

...the fact that you can fry up unlimited self-serve kimchi pancakes. Hahahaha. And don't assume it's low quality just because it's free —
every time I come here I wonder how they make the batter, because the pancake is so wonderfully chewy it's the kind of quality you'd happily pay for!! And it's unlimited!! But honestly there's always so much else to eat that I've never managed more than one piece haha.

Spicy fish stew arrives first with the sashimi set
Usually when you eat sashimi, the spicy fish stew comes out afterward, but at Veteran General Fish Market the lunch set brings the stew out right at the start. Very efficient, time-wise.
It's just the stew that comes standard with the lunch set, but it was loaded with tofu and vegetables in a spicy broth, with plenty of fish meat too! The stew kicked things off, and then the rest of the Seon set started arriving in earnest...

Seaweed soup, seasoned raw fish and seasoned pollack roe
Seaweed soup, seasoned raw fish, and seasoned pollack roe. The seasoned raw fish tossed with chogochujang (vinegared gochujang sauce) is tangy and perfect for when you've got no appetite.

Tempura: shrimp, sweet pumpkin and sweet potato
The tempura portion is for two people — two pieces each of shrimp, sweet pumpkin, and sweet potato. Crispy and delicious.

Sushi included with the lunch set
The sushi was one piece of raw fish sushi and one piece of salmon sushi.

The sashimi plate: 16 pieces for two
Here's what the sashimi in the lunch set looks like at Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch. For two people, it was 16 pieces — definitely not a small portion!!! Thick, fresh cuts with a great texture. We ordered the Seon set, but the Jin set, which is ₩3,000 more, adds three extra kinds of seafood: abalone, sea squirt, and sea cucumber.

Seasoned pollack roe served as a side dish. This was genuinely a special treat too. Great lineup for a lunch special.

Grilled saury, the Seon set's signature dish
Grilled saury. I was so full it was tough to finish it. Tasting my way through everything, I kept wishing I had a bigger appetite haha — being full is the worst.

Assorted sushi lunch platter, 13,000 won
And this is the assorted sushi (lunch) for ₩13,000, which we shared alongside the lunch set. The rice-to-fish ratio was just right and it was delicious. Sushi from a fish restaurant is just different somehow.

I grabbed some aged kimchi from the self-serve bar and wrapped it around a piece of flounder sushi. So good.
Is Veteran General Fish Market worth it for lunch in Guwol-dong?
The lunch special at this Guwol-dong fish restaurant was excellent. Even outside of the lunch set, the price is so good relative to the sashimi quality that I'd happily come back just for the regular menu!! Highly recommend for lunch in Guwol-dong, and strongly recommend if you're looking for a sashimi restaurant in the area.
