Spicy tonkotsu and mini buta-don at Myeonsikdang, a Dalseo ramen shop
In short
Myeonsikdang Keimyung University Branch is a ramen and donkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant on the second floor at the entrance of the food alley across from the east gate of Keimyung University's Seongseo campus in Dalseo, Daegu. Ordering by kiosk, the writer had the spicy tonkotsu ramen with handmade pork loin katsu, mozzarella cheese katsu, a fire-grilled mini buta-don (pork rice bowl) and a Shine Muscat ade, and found the heat about as sharp as Shin Ramyun. Inside Myeonsikdang: a wide, comfortable dining room

Here's the inside of Myeonsikdang!! The interior was much bigger than it looked from outside. Simple decor with quite a lot of tables and seats!! Since it's right in front of the school, it crossed my mind that even this many seats might not be enough at lunchtime~

Even though it's in front of the school, there are plenty of apartments and residential areas nearby, so the customer age range probably varies a lot. Honestly this area is always bustling with regular customers too~ I visited avoiding weekend mealtimes!!

I could see the young owner's passion in the open kitchen too!! Everyone's hands moved so fast, keeping up with both delivery orders and floor service!! No surprise it's the #1 Naver-searched restaurant near Keimyung University in Dalseo~
Menu and prices: picking sides on the kiosk

Every menu item shown in the photo is actually orderable~ You order via kiosk, and single-item menus let you choose from a variety of options, so it feels like you can mix and match freely!! One thing's clear — being right by the school means the value is unbeatable!! Nothing else nearby can compete~ Interesting that most of the Myeonsikdang branches operating in Daegu happen to be near schools — that surprised me even more.

What I ordered - spicy tonkotsu ramen + side: mozzarella cheese katsu, handmade pork loin katsu + side: fire-flavor mini buta-don + ade. You can easily add cheap side dishes to your main order like this!
Handmade pork loin katsu: thick, crisp outside, juicy inside

Handmade pork loin katsu!! Amazing just from the looks~

The meat is thick, and it's the ultimate in crispy-outside, tender-inside. Super soft and crunchy, the kind of flavor that keeps you eating without stopping.

Nice touch — the table setting comes with two sauces, regular and spicy, plus wasabi, shichimi, and salt.. you can feel the thoughtfulness put into it~
Fire-grilled mini buta-don: small name, deep bowl of rice

Fire-flavor mini buta-don (pork rice bowl)!! This one is so cute and adorable-looking~ But the bowl turned out to be surprisingly deep, so the portion was generous. Great value, great taste, as expected~
How spicy is the spicy tonkotsu ramen?

Spicy tonkotsu ramen — you can taste the spice starting from the broth.. but it's not that harsh. About Shin Ramyun-level spicy?? A well-balanced, tasty heat, nice and sharp!!

The meat was thick and tender, and there was a generous, refreshing amount of bean sprouts, which paired perfectly with the cheese katsu on the side!
Can you see the broth?? The noodles were chewy too, so you can eat all the way through without them getting soggy!

Mozzarella cheese katsu with the ramen: how they pair
Freshly fried cheese katsu — a bit rich to eat on its own, but it balances perfectly when paired with the spicy ramen!

Can you see the cheese stretching?? I didn't expect it to stretch this far, beyond imagination!!

Who is Myeonsikdang best for?
Everything's generous and hearty!! Even the Shine Muscat ade wasn't just a single-serving cup — it looked like enough for a few people to share!! Myeonsikdang, a Keimyung University favorite, is a perfect place for a hearty, delicious meal not just for students but families, friend gatherings, and dates too. They say they thoroughly inspect the best ingredients delivered daily and cook fresh every day, which makes this Dalseo favorite even more trustworthy!
