Where is Onjeong Jorim near Hyeopjae Beach, and where do you park?

Onjeong Jorim Jeju Hyeopjae Branch is a braised hairtail restaurant within walking distance of Hyeopjae Beach. Parking is available for 2–3 cars right in front, but since the lot was already full when we arrived, we parked at Hyeopjae public parking lot instead.

During our Jeju trip, after swimming and riding waves at Hyeopjae Beach, we started to get hungry and went looking for a braised hairtail place near Hyeopjae — and that's how we found Onjeong Jorim. The location is so convenient for anyone moving from Hyeopjae Beach straight to a meal, just like we did. Is there a wait, and what time should you go?

Even though Onjeong Jorim has plenty of indoor tables, the place was already packed with diners, and people kept streaming in the whole time we were eating — this is a well-loved, good-value braised hairtail spot in Hyeopjae with real waiting lines. Luckily, since we came for an early dinner just before 6pm, we managed to get a table right away, haha.

Customers ranged from families with young kids to older folks and younger crowds — all sorts of ages. This really does seem to be a braised hairtail place loved by everyone.

How does the braised hairtail at Onjeong Jorim taste?

It didn't take long for the braised hairtail to arrive, and it looked amazing at first glance. Garlic was sprinkled generously on top, perfectly suited to Korean tastes, and the deep red, thick sauce looked so good there was no way it could taste bad!

Eating this right after swimming, like we did, makes it taste even better. I'd highly, highly recommend Onjeong Jorim as the go-to braised hairtail spot near Hyeopjae Beach! You get so hungry after swimming, and eating this spicy, salty braise with warm rice is basically a rice-thief in disguise... Swim hard, eat braised hairtail, then head back to your accommodation for the best sleep of your life.

Braised hairtail piece full of roe

Wow, it was packed full of roe, which made it look even more delicious! My boyfriend took one bite and said, 'Whoa... this sauce is insane,' and honestly the sauce really did hit the exact spot Koreans love. Just spicy enough, deeply savory, and the sauce had soaked all the way into the fish — perfect with rice.

Sauce-soaked hairtail flesh pulled apart

The hairtail flesh was so soft and moist that it just fell off the bone easily, and it had this rich, nutty flavor that was honestly the best.

Piling hairtail on top of rice and eating it — that was basically heaven right there. Jeju hairtail is on a whole different level, I'm hooked.

A piece of radish soaked in braised hairtail sauce

Radish, seaweed and two bowls of rice each

Eating a piece of radish soaked in that incredible sauce is pure bliss! The radish was cooked through until soft and had absorbed the sauce so well that our chopsticks kept reaching for it just as much as the fish.

Large pot with leftover braised hairtail sauce

It was so good that I wanted to just dump a whole bowl of rice straight into the big serving pot and mix it all together.

Wrapping rice and braised hairtail in seaweed

I was wondering why they served plain, unroasted seaweed — but then it clicked: mix rice with this sauce and wrap it in the seaweed, and it'd taste heavenly. So I ended up wrapping almost a whole bowl of rice in seaweed, loaded up with sauce and plenty of hairtail, of course, haha.

Why Onjeong Jorim fits a Hyeopjae Beach day trip

If you're swimming at Hyeopjae Beach and looking for good-value braised hairtail in Jeju, I really recommend Onjeong Jorim! The price is relatively easy on the wallet while still letting you properly enjoy Jeju-style braised hairtail, making it such a great stop to pair with a Hyeopjae day trip.
