Ocean-view pork noodle restaurant for a late brunch: Handam Guksu

In short

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a Korean restaurant right in front of Handam Beach in Aewol, Jeju, with a floor-to-ceiling glass wall facing the sea. Visited around 11am for brunch, the writer had bean-sprout beef bone broth pork noodles, an extra-large dongchimi bibim noodles, and handmade pork tteokgalbi, and loved the clean, rich broth and thin noodles. A spot worth recommending if you want both the view and the noodles on your Aewol itinerary.

Right in front of Handam Beach — what about parking?

It's located right in front of Handam Beach in Aewol, close to Gwakji Beach and Aewol Port too. There's parking space in front of the restaurant, so you can drive there without hassle.

How does waiting work?

Since it's usually a wait-list restaurant, there's a separate waiting area set up inside a tent. You just register for the wait through CatchTable, and there are plenty of chairs so waiting should be comfortable!

11am brunch, Handam Beach view through the glass wall

I went around 11am for brunch and a lot of people were already eating,~ but anyway! Is this really the view from a pork noodle restaurant????? Handam Beach spreads out right in front, visible through the floor-to-ceiling glass — it's honestly like a painting.

Alongside the main pork noodles, there are side dishes to fill you up too. And the mala pork noodles!!! I was so curious about it, but since it was my first visit I ordered the classic pork noodles — I'm still so curious about that mala version.

Basic side dishes and self bar

The basic side dishes are kimchi and pickled dried radish (I think?)! The kimchi's color alone says it all. For a noodle restaurant, kimchi is really important, and this one is great. The radish pickle has a nice crunchy texture, and with chili added it's spicy too — totally my style~ Both are so tasty! They go perfectly with the pork noodles.

You can refill side dishes yourself at the self bar, and there's chili and ssamjang too. There's also kids' tableware, and hair ties are provided!

Ta-da, our order arrived — pork noodles, bibim noodles, and handmade tteokgalbi!

Bean bone broth pork noodles ₩10,000 — bean sprouts are the kicker

The broth base is a really rich, milky bone broth loaded with dombe pork, plus refreshing bean sprouts and green onion. I'd never had pork noodles with bean sprouts in it before, so I was so curious.

Rich bean bone broth pork noodles

The broth is really savory and rich. But it's not funky in a heavy way at all — actually pretty clean. And the bean sprouts are seriously the kicker! Pork broth soups can get a little greasy, but the bean sprouts cut right through it, so the balance is really good. The noodles were exactly the kind I like — a bit thin. Thicker than somyeon~ the strands were soft and chewy, cooked just right. Total slurp fest. And the portion was huge too.

The pork has no odor, of course~ soft, mild, and tasty haha. Goes so well with the kimchi.

A bite of pork with kimchi

Dongchimi bibim noodles, large ₩11,000

The bibim noodles are loaded with bean sprouts, cucumber, and shredded pork that looks like jangjorim. You mix it with the seasoning sauce along with the dongchimi (radish water kimchi) broth served on the side.

As expected, the noodles are thin so the seasoning soaks in well and stays moist. The sweet-and-tangy sauce is so good. And the amount of pork is seriously huge!!

Handmade pork tteokgalbi (3pcs) ₩10,000

I debated between this and the dombe sliced pork, but since the pork noodles already came with sliced pork, I went with the tteokgalbi! I think it's my first time having tteokgalbi in Jeju, and it was so good..? Really juicy, delicious handmade tteokgalbi. Not too sweet, just a hint of sweetness, so the seasoning was spot on haha.

If you join the Naver receipt photo review event, you get a Jeju specialty crunch snack for free! You choose one of tangerine, prickly pear, or green tea — a tough choice since they're all good haha.

Wrap-up

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch serves clean, rich pork noodles with bean sprouts in them. The sweet-and-tangy bibim noodles were great too, and I'm really curious about the mala pork noodles.. if I get to go again, I'll definitely try it.. Plus the view is amazing, so this really feels like the Jeju pork noodle restaurant. Recommended for both pork noodles and the view in Aewol haha.
