Jeju noodle restaurant for beef bone broth: Handam Guksu
In short
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a noodle restaurant near Gwakji Beach in Aewol, Jeju. On our final travel day, we ordered beef bone broth pork noodles, dongchimi bibim noodles, and handmade pork tteokgalbi with our child; the window view and generous noodles stayed with us. Verdict: a great spot for a light meal in Aewol.

A pork noodle restaurant I found in Aewol, Jeju

There’s a very famous lunch spot in Aewol, Jeju, known for its pork noodles and ocean view through floor-to-ceiling windows, so where did the Matloria couple and their child visit~~?
Handam Guksu
Along with pork noodles, bibim noodles, and pork soup with rice, it sells dombe naeng-suyuk (chilled boiled pork), handmade tteokgalbi (Korean grilled meat patties), and meat dumplings as side dishes, making it a nice Aewol restaurant to visit with a young child.

Handam Guksu is near Aewol’s Gwakji Beach and café street, so it’s great for spending time after your meal. Even though we arrived after the lunchtime rush, there was still a wait—definitely a truly popular Aewol spot.
Hours are a little different on Mondays, when there is no break time. On the other days, it is open until 8:30 p.m. and has a break time, so please keep that in mind before visiting!
The wait, window seats, and menu

It wasn’t huge inside, but it wasn’t incredibly tiny compared with other Jeju pork noodle places either. As someone who loved the open, breezy interior and its floor-to-ceiling beach-view windows, I was very happy haha. We were third in line and waited a little before going in; it was packed, so I had to agree that it is a great Aewol lunch spot for pork noodles.

After waiting, we were shown to the innermost table, where the sunlight came in beautifully and the view was just wonderful at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch ♥
The menu at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch looks simple, but it has everything you would want. Noodles and soup with rice are the mains, while the rest are side dishes to enjoy alongside them! We ordered beef bone broth pork noodles (₩10,000) and dongchimi bibim noodles (₩10,000), then thoroughly added handmade pork tteokgalbi (₩10,000) and a bowl of rice because we had our child with us.

There were just two basic side dishes, but both were very tasty and went especially well with the pork noodles—they felt like they upgraded the whole bowl! Haha.
Just how generous were the beef bone broth pork noodles?

All of our food arrived at once, which made this Aewol lunch spot even better. The first dish I’ll introduce is the beef bone broth pork noodles, with a milky-white broth and big pieces of meat on top!!!

It looked great, but it tasted even cleaner and better. The broth was deep and rich, and the noodles came in such a generous portion—almost like an extra-large serving—that I understood why Jeju locals and travelers keep coming back~~! As a traveler myself, I totally agreed. These pork noodles are clean-tasting and light on the stomach, perfect for lunch, so I hope pork noodle lovers try them at least once.
Handmade pork tteokgalbi that was great to share with a child

Next was this Aewol lunch spot’s handmade tteokgalbi, beautifully plated with seaweed! Each piece was bigger than expected, and perhaps because it was handmade, it was exceptionally juicy. There was none of the characteristic pork smell that tteokgalbi can have, so it suited even my palate, which does not usually prefer ordinary tteokgalbi. A definite pass!

When you go with a child, serve some of this along with pork noodle meat and broth, and finishing a whole bowl of rice is no big deal ^0^
The tteokgalbi meat was marinated so deliciously and made with an incredible seasoning that I really want to recommend it as a pork noodle side dish.
Bibim noodles with dongchimi broth

Third were the dongchimi bibim noodles, served with cool dongchimi (radish water kimchi) broth!!! The red bibim seasoning stood out, and because we wanted to preserve that flavor, we did not add much of the cool broth. Add it and mix to your taste, haha.

Unlike the meat in the pork noodles, this seemed to have shredded chicken in it. It is not a dish you commonly see at other pork noodle restaurants, and if you are getting a little tired of eating only clear-broth pork noodles in Jeju, Handam Guksu’s dongchimi bibim noodles seem like an excellent alternative.
Handam Guksu was the Aewol lunch spot we visited on the final day of our trip! It lived up to expectations, so I wanted to share it with anyone looking for a casual meal around Aewol or Gwakji Beach.
