The menu at Songa Kalguksu is refreshingly simple: chicken kalguksu, jang-kalguksu, butter kalguksu, and squid bibim-mandu (mixed dumplings). Before visiting, every review I found praised getting 'a truly proper, thoughtfully made meal,' so my expectations were already high — and focusing on just kalguksu and mandu (dumplings) as their specialty made me even more excited to pick something haha.

The free side kimchi is the real standout

Basic side dishes at Songa Kalguksu: pickled cucumber and kimchi
Songa Kalguksu's kimchi topped with spicy seasoning

The basic side dishes at Songa Kalguksu are neatly served pickled cucumber and kimchi. And this kimchi in particular is seriously amazing!!! The deep fish sauce flavor combined with a hefty, spicy seasoning grabbed my taste buds instantly! Eaten together with warm kalguksu noodles, it's the textbook definition of a perfect noodle pairing! They say a kalguksu restaurant lives or dies by its kimchi, and Songa Kalguksu's kimchi is a complete bullseye for my taste!!!! Good kimchi is genuinely rare these days ㅠㅠ This was incredible 🤍

Bibim-mandu, 7,000 won: flat dumpling skins with seasoned vegetables

Bibim-mandu (₩7,000): I usually love Daegu-style flat dumplings, and Songa Kalguksu's bibim-mandu exceeded expectations — a total bullseye for my taste 😳 The seasoned vegetable mix itself was so tangy-sweet and savory that it would have been delicious on its own!

Wrapping the thin, crisply grilled dumpling skin around the tangy-sweet vegetable mix made for a flavor that's genuinely addictive! The dumpling's savoriness and the vegetables' brightness came together to really wake up your appetite. Absolutely a must-try menu item!

Chicken kalguksu, 10,000 won: hand-cut noodles in rich broth

A bowl of chicken kalguksu at Songa Kalguksu

The chicken kalguksu (₩10,000) was even better than I expected 🤍 As the restaurant's signature dish, you could really feel the skill behind it! The broth's flavor was no joke — no chicken funk at all, just clean, rich, and deeply flavorful!! Dipping the chicken into the accompanying pepper and perilla oil sauce doubled the flavor!!!

After one bite, I thought — this place absolutely earns the title 'Eunpyeong-gu's chicken kalguksu master.' Honestly, I can confidently say it's the best chicken kalguksu I've ever had! The portion was shockingly generous the moment I lifted the noodles — the two of us nearly burst trying to finish it!

And since the noodles are hand-cut fresh to order, the texture is bouncy and chewy in a serious way! The rich broth soaks fully into the noodles and it's already perfect — but topping it with a single bite of that amazing spicy kimchi from earlier basically turns it into heaven!! The best value for money, nailing both flavor and portion! Absolutely a must-order.

Jang-kalguksu, 11,000 won: squid topping in a clean, spicy broth

Jang-kalguksu topped with squid

Jang-kalguksu (₩11,000): Wow, this squid-topped jang-kalguksu also lived up to expectations! Jang-kalguksu can often taste heavy, but this one had none of that — a refreshing anchovy-based broth with a rich gochujang (red chili paste) flavor made the soup clean and satisfying!

It's also generously loaded with potato, zucchini, and onion, so fishing out the ingredients was fun too haha. The spicy yet deep broth flavor soaked all the way into the noodles, making this a dish I enjoyed thoroughly right down to the last bite! Total must-try.
