Curry and miso katsu family dinner at Matsumi, a Songpa tonkatsu spot
In short
Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch is a Korean-pork tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant right outside Exit 4 of Seokchon Ancient Tombs Station on Line 9 in Songpa, Seoul. On a weekend evening the writer, her mother and her sister ordered curry tonkatsu, cheddar cheese tonkatsu and Nagoya-style miso katsu and shared all three, and the cutlets tasted clean rather than greasy. Matsumi also keeps four solo-dining seats, so it suits a family dinner and a meal alone alike.

What kind of restaurant is Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch?
Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch is a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant 118m from Exit 4 of Seokchon Godbun Station on Line 9, at 262 Baekjegobun-ro, 1F. This time it was a weekend evening, and I went to a tonkatsu place near Seokchon Godbun Station with my mom and sister for the first time in a while. Since it was a rare dinner together as a family, I looked for somewhere tasty and ended up here. It turned out to be such a comfortable place to eat that I wanted to share it!

Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch won an award for excellence in the tonkatsu category at the 2026 Korea Consumer Industry Evaluation! You can even check the menu board from outside, which is convenient.

They also have a Catch Table kiosk set up for waiting customers!

Solo-dining seats and the mood inside Matsumi
Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch even has 4 seats for solo diners! The inside was cozy and clean.

I liked that the tonkatsu sauce was already set on the table!

They even had refreshing candy and hair ties ready — such a thoughtful, considerate touch ♥

The kitchen is open-style, so I could watch the food being made right in front of me, and the clean, tidy atmosphere made me trust the place even more.

How to order at Matsumi and the receipt review event
You order easily using the QR code attached to the table!

Right now there's a receipt review event where you get 2 pieces of vegetable croquette free once you complete the review — be sure to grab that!

What is on the Matsumi menu?
The menu ranges from set meals to various katsu dishes, noodles, mazesoba, and rice bowls, so there was plenty to choose from depending on what you're in the mood for! I also learned that the name 'Matsumi' carries the meaning of keeping a consistent taste, unchanging like a pine tree. Knowing what the name means made the place feel even more meaningful.

All the pork used is Korean native pork (handon), so it's a trustworthy spot!

They also have disposable aprons on hand!

Curry tonkatsu, the dish my mother ordered
Here's the curry tonkatsu my mom ordered! Tonkatsu cut into bite-sized pieces sat on top of rice with curry poured over it, along with side dishes of green onion, soup broth, and pickled radish. The menu description said it's a dish where the rich flavor of the curry meets the crispy texture of the tonkatsu.
Trying it, the tonkatsu turned out to be much less greasy than I expected — light and really tender, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy. The outside was crispy and the inside moist and soft, which paired really well with the curry. Apparently you can add spice level 1 through 3 for an extra ₩500, though we didn't add any spice level this time!
With the rich flavor of the curry, tender tonkatsu, and rice all in one bowl, it was a hearty and delicious dish to enjoy!

Cheddar cheese tonkatsu, Matsumi's best seller
Here's the cheddar cheese tonkatsu I ordered, Matsumi's best-selling item! It's tonkatsu fried crispy in Matsumi's own way, topped with rich cheddar cheese and a special spicy sauce. Visually, it looked amazing with cheddar cheese piled generously on top, and when I tried it, the tonkatsu itself wasn't greasy and was soft, so even with the cheese on top it wasn't heavy at all, which I hadn't expected.
The rich, savory cheddar cheese went really well with the tonkatsu, and the spicy special sauce that came through here and there cut right through the cheese's richness, making it a flavor I kept going back for! The crispy outside and moist, tender inside of the tonkatsu, combined with the savory cheese and the sweet-spicy sauce, made for a really great combination. The visuals were stunning, but the taste satisfied just as much — I could tell why this is the best menu item.

Miso katsu, the Nagoya-style signature my sister ordered
Here's the miso katsu my sister ordered! Miso katsu is apparently also one of Matsumi's best menu items! It's Nagoya-style miso katsu reinterpreted in Matsumi's own way, and it's said to be a signature dish where the white miso sauce and green onion really shine together.
A generous amount of sweet white miso sauce was poured over the tonkatsu, and the sauce wasn't too salty but sweet, so it went really well with the tonkatsu! The green onion on top especially cut through what could otherwise feel rich, and combined with the tender tonkatsu and sweet miso sauce, it was perfect to eat with rice too. Personally, the sauce was so good I kept dipping the tonkatsu generously into it! If you like Nagoya-style miso katsu, I think you'll be satisfied with this dish.
Is Matsumi a good spot for a family dinner?
If you're craving delicious tonkatsu — whether you're on a date in Seokchon, out for a family meal, or eating solo — definitely visit Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch! With such a wide variety of tonkatsu types and a broad menu selection, it was easy to pick something to my taste, and above all, the tonkatsu was light yet tender, so I ate really well. I was satisfied enough that next time I visit Seokchon, I want to come back and try other menu items too!
