One of the places you can't skip on a Jeju trip is Dongmun Market. There's so much good food and so much to look at, and it's naturally the spot you end up browsing for snacks to take home or Jeju Dongmun Market gifts for family!

On the last day of our Jeju trip, we stopped by Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch inside the market and picked up an oranda set as a gift!

When I hear "oranda" I usually picture the hard, overly sweet snack I used to eat — but Cheongchuni's oranda was soft and not too sweet, so it was easy to eat without feeling guilty. We snacked our way through the market and, near the end, picked out something to take home. Cheongchuni Oranda caught our eye because they make their oranda by hand in-store. Along with oranda, they also carry gwajul, so it was a good spot to browse for Jeju trip gifts or snacks.

Handmade oranda that's soft, not hard

What I liked most was the texture! If you pick the wrong oranda, it can be so hard that you only manage one or two before giving up. But Cheongchuni's oranda wasn't hard at all — it was soft and moist, so it was easy to keep eating.

With each bite it chews softly while giving off oranda's signature nutty flavor. Best of all, it wasn't too sweet. It went well with coffee, and also paired nicely as a snack with a warm cup of tea.

Oranda flavors: yuzu, nut, garlic, and gamtae

The oranda flavors weren't limited to one — there were several kinds, including yuzu oranda, nut oranda, garlic oranda, and gamtae (sea lettuce) oranda, so it was fun choosing by taste.

Yuzu oranda lets you enjoy yuzu aroma filling your mouth, while nut oranda adds nuts for a nutty flavor. Garlic oranda and gamtae oranda offer more unusual combinations. The oranda set we bought had 4 flavors inside, so it was fun picking one to try at a time.

The box packaging is stylish, so it makes a good gift

Cheongchuni Oranda's box packaging was clean and stylish enough that we could gift it as-is without wrapping it separately. It's not too much for giving a small token of thanks after a Jeju trip, and opening the box to pick through the different oranda flavors is part of the fun, so it really suits gift-giving. A good gift for parents, too

With oranda, you might hesitate to give it to your parents worrying it's too sweet or too hard. But from what I tasted, Cheongchuni's oranda isn't overly sweet and has a soft texture that's not hard, so I'd recommend it as a Jeju gift for parents too!

The sweetness and nuttiness were balanced just right, so it seemed like something parents would enjoy as a snack with a cup of tea. And since it comes packaged neatly in a pretty, stylish box, it was satisfying from the giver's side too.
