Ara-dong café in Jeju for handmade jujube tea: Gasangsun Coffee

After moving to Jeju, I tried a few of the big-name café-with-a-view spots. But one day I just wanted a genuinely delicious cup of coffee more than a pretty view.

One thing that surprised me about Jeju is honestly the prices haha. So since I was going to pay for coffee anyway, I wanted to find somewhere that actually tasted great, and that's how I found Gasangsun Coffee (가상순커피) in Ara-dong.

I punched it into navigation, and once I turned into the alley the café was right there — not hard to find at all.

Parking and outdoor seats at Gasangsun Coffee in Ara-dong

Gasangsun Coffee had a parking space right next to the café, which was really convenient. Parking is something I quietly care a lot about when choosing a café.

In Jeju you end up driving everywhere, so having parking on site turns out to be a bigger perk than it sounds.

There was also a small table and chairs set up outside the café. On a nice day that isn't too hot like these days, sitting outside with a cup of coffee sounded lovely.

Inside Gasangsun Coffee: a clean room full of coffee gear

My first impression walking into Gasangsun Coffee was: this place is really clean.

See how shiny the floor is haha. The whole space was well kept, and both the floor and the tables looked so well maintained that I didn't have a single hygiene worry.

There was also a long table long enough that you wouldn't worry about visiting in a group. The interior was more spacious than I expected, so it didn't feel cramped, and the tables were fairly generously spaced too.

And what caught my eye the most was the coffee bar.

There was a real variety of antique props — hand mills, kettles, teacups, even an old telephone and radio. There was a lot going on, but it never felt cluttered, more elegant and calm.

If you love coffee, you could easily have fun looking around piece by piece while waiting for your order.

Looking at the menu board, besides regular coffee there were separate Dutch coffee, siphon coffee, and hand drip menus, plus what looked like a reservation-based coffee omakase. It felt less like a café with lots of drink options and more like a place genuinely focused on coffee itself.

On one wall, several framed certificates or diplomas related to coffee were hanging. I didn't read every one carefully, but seeing a space like that, you could feel the owner's passion for coffee.

Inside the shop there was also a sign for '2026 Korea's Best Coffee Spot,' which made me even more curious about the taste.

What we ordered and what's in the dessert case

That day we ordered the signature gamastercoffee, the handmade date tea, and the 100% Mungyeong apple juice.

For once Hoi didn't get lemonade haha. I guess the name 'Mungyeong apple juice' won her over — she knows how good Mungyeong apples are haha.

Inside the showcase were all kinds of desserts that go well with coffee, from honey cake to pound cake, tarts, cookies, and financiers. We also ordered a pound cake and a fig cream cheese financier.

Buying Rukira drip bags to take home

Gasangsun Coffee also sells beans and drip bags separately. I only meant to browse at first, but I ended up buying 10 drip bags on the way out haha.

I mentioned I liked nutty flavors, and they recommended Rukira. Maybe because the beans had only been roasted about two days earlier, when I tried them at home there was no burnt or bitter taste at all — very satisfying.

My mom would've wanted a hand drip coffee too if she hadn't had a cold, but she held off this time. Next time I visit, I'm definitely trying the hand drip.

What does the signature Gamaster Coffee taste like?

Our drinks and desserts arrived.

First, my gamastercoffee. According to the menu description, it's the signature coffee: a rich, sweet latte topped with cinnamon powder and ice cream. It looked light in the cup, so I was a little worried before tasting it, but that wasn't the case at all.

The coffee was rich, sweet, and smooth all at once, and taking a bite of the ice cream on top and then sipping the coffee again brought out the sweetness perfectly haha. I like both strong coffee and sweet lattes, so this really hit the spot for me.

I was tired that day, and one sip of this sweet coffee actually lifted my mood.

The owner's handmade jujube tea (daechucha)

When we ordered, the owner mentioned they make it themselves and that it's sweet because it's loaded with dates. When I actually tried it, though, the sweetness didn't feel artificial at all — it was the deep, pleasant natural sweetness of the dates themselves, and it was delicious.

Can you tell how thick it looks even in the photo? Scoop it with a spoon and the consistency is genuinely thick.

My mom, who wasn't feeling great because of her cold, fell even harder for this date tea than I did for my coffee, and said we should come back just for this haha.

It was warm with a rich date aroma coming through, the kind of menu you'd crave especially on a chilly day.

100% Mungyeong apple juice

Last was the 100% Mungyeong apple juice that Hoi picked. According to the owner, they source it from a supplier in Mungyeong.

One sip and the apple flavor was fresh and clean. It wasn't just sweet — it stayed refreshing to the last sip, and Hoi enjoyed it too. Choosing Mungyeong apple juice over lemonade turned out to be a great call.

Free drink for national merit recipients and Chuseok holiday hours

On one side of Gasangsun Coffee there was also a notice saying that national merit recipients get one free drink on their visit. Seeing that kind of sign made me feel a little warmer inside.

Both owners were really kind. Hoi was off chasing a moth that had gotten into the café, and they were gracious about it, so we ended up having a comfortable time before we left.

When I visited, there was also a separate notice posted about Chuseok holiday hours. If you're visiting during the holiday, refer to the photo, and it's a good idea to double-check the opening hours before heading over.

A beautiful view at a big café is nice, but sometimes you just want a place where the coffee itself is genuinely delicious. If you're looking for a café in Ara-dong that's a bit more focused on coffee flavor, this one is worth a visit. Every menu item, not just the coffee, felt made with real care at Gasangsun Coffee.
