Stroller-friendly Jeju café in Ara-dong: shakerato at Gasangsun Coffee

I took my 86-day-old baby in a stroller to Gasangsun Coffee (가상순커피) in Ara-dong, Jeju City. It's known as a local coffee favorite near my house, and this was the first time I ever took my baby to a café on my own.

Raising a baby on Jeju, going to cafés the way I used to isn't so easy anymore. Especially with a young baby, the atmosphere of a café matters a lot. If it's too loud or the tables are too close together, it's hard to get a stroller in, and even if the baby falls asleep I end up feeling self-conscious ㅠㅠ

So this time I pushed the stroller over to an Ara-dong café. I timed my visit right for the 11am opening. Maybe because I arrived a bit early, the place was quiet and fairly empty overall. Thanks to that, even with the baby along, I was able to spend time there pretty comfortably.

What's on the menu at Gasangsun Coffee in Ara-dong?

Gasangsun Coffee is fairly well known for its hand-drip coffee and is said to taste great. Honestly, the moment I walked in, I thought 'there's no way this place tastes bad.' I ordered a shakerato, which I hadn't had in a while, and I think next time I'll try the hand drip haha. It looks like it'll be delicious~~

How stroller-friendly is the wide-open floor plan?

What I liked most was that the store was bigger than I expected. When you go to a café with a baby stroller, the first thing you check is the seating spacing, and here I had no real trouble maneuvering the stroller in and finding a seat. If it had been a cramped café, staying long with the baby would have been tough, but the extra room made it comfortable.

Also, the moment you walk in, the hand-drip bar really catches your eye. It has a big presence across the whole store, and coffee lovers would probably enjoy just browsing it. I personally like looking at pretty teacups and coffee cups, so this space was especially fun for me. It felt like I came for coffee but ended up browsing cups, mugs, and the brewing station too. So next time I visit, I definitely want to try the hand-drip coffee instead of something else.

The 5,500 won shakerato at Gasangsun Coffee

This time I ordered a shakerato for 5,500 won. A shakerato is espresso shaken cold with ice — I love it so much I even make a makeshift version at home!! Maybe because of that, I get pickier when I buy it out haha.

I was curious to try a shakerato out and about after a while, and it just sounded good with the cool autumn weather setting in! It suited the day perfectly when I wanted something light and refreshing. The one I had was pleasantly sweet and cool at the same time. Drinks that are too sweet tend to get old fast for me, but this wasn't overly sweet, so it suited my taste. And since the café was so quiet, sipping a cup of coffee there felt genuinely relaxing.

Arriving at 11am: no desserts ready yet

When I look for good coffee in Jeju City, I care about the atmosphere and the space just as much as the coffee itself, and on that front I was satisfied. Before visiting, I'd also read other reviews mentioning the desserts were good. I went in with some expectations, but unfortunately, since I arrived right at the 11am opening, no desserts were out yet when I got there.

I'd really wanted to try dessert alongside the coffee, so that part was a bit disappointing. That said, it might just be because I visited too early, so next time I'd like to go at a more relaxed hour and try the desserts too. No desserts, but they did have house-roasted beans for sale to browse slowly, and right next to it was a service table with water and napkins set out separately!

Right in front of the counter there was a wifi sign, and Kakao Pay is accepted too! And there was some kind of plaque saying it's a Columbus-selected coffee spot? — and sure enough, the moment I walked in I was overwhelmed by the hand-drip bar, and it was clear the owner is genuinely serious about coffee.

There were countless certificates and what looked like licenses on the wall. Seems like some serious expertise there!! Up until now I would have named Bezzangi Coffee as the go-to spot in Ara-dong, but I think I need to come back here often and try a range of coffees too. Trust level: upgraded...!!

A café outing with a baby under 100 days old

And surprisingly, the best part of the day was, without a doubt, how comfortable the baby was the whole time. It was our first time going to a café just the two of us, and honestly my baby tends to cry a lot so I was nervous,, I was ready to gulp my drink down and leave in a hurry if needed, but for the first time ever,,,,!!!!!! she slept in the stroller for a whole hour.

I think it helped that the café had a quiet atmosphere good for low conversation, and the space itself felt comfortable, so the baby slept soundly without waking much. When you take a baby to cafés, as a mom, how comfortable the baby is matters just as much as how the coffee tastes. On that front, I was pretty satisfied. The owner was also kind, so even as a first-time visitor I could relax and enjoy it without worry.

Taking a baby to a café, you always worry about bothering the other customers, but that day I got to drink my coffee and rest for a bit without that pressure. So for anyone looking for a Jeju City café to visit with a baby, I think a quiet place like this would be a good fit. Of course every baby adapts differently to different atmospheres, so it's not a guarantee every baby will nap this long, but my fairly sensitive baby napped quite comfortably that day.

Next time, I'm most looking forward to bringing the baby again and trying the hand drip. This time I had a shakerato, so next time I want to see what beans they pick and taste the hand-drip coffee myself. And I want to give the desserts another shot too.

When you're looking for a café you can go to with a baby, finding one that checks all the boxes — spacious, quiet, and friendly service — is harder than you'd think, but this visit was really comfortable. Especially for someone like me, pushing a young baby in a stroller and just wanting to sit down for a coffee, the roomy space felt like a real plus. Beyond the coffee itself, browsing the hand-drip bar and the variety of cups was fun too.

Especially if you've wanted to bring your baby to a café but felt nervous about tight spaces, this place's roominess is worth considering. Thanks to my baby sleeping a full hour in the stroller that day, I finally got to enjoy a cup of coffee at leisure again after a long time. Next time, I'll be sure to try the hand drip and dessert and write it all up again.
