Jeju restaurant 15 minutes from the airport by bus: Dixie's rice bowls

A South American restaurant in Jeju?! Dixie's was our first stop on this Jeju trip, and I'm starting this review very satisfied haha~~

Where is Dixie's, and where do you park? 15 minutes from Jeju Airport by bus

Dixie's is located near Gwandeokjeong and Dongmun Market in Jeju City. We took a bus from the airport, about 15 minutes, though it's also walkable in 30-40 minutes if you'd rather stretch your legs.

If you're driving, there's a public parking lot right in front of the restaurant. It's free to come and go on weekdays after 8pm!! Apparently if you park there before 8pm, they'll throw in a little something haha. And on weekends/holidays it's free anytime, no time restrictions haha haha.

What is Dixie's like inside? Jazz LPs and orange lighting

Walk through the arched entrance and suddenly Jeju flips into South America.

The jazz music and dim orange lighting made me nostalgic for a South America I've never actually been to, haha. It genuinely felt like I'd stepped onto an overseas trip!!

Even the bathroom is totally hip

Dixie's menu: build-your-own rice bowls and mac bowls

You can build your own rice bowl from scratch, or if you're clueless like me, just order the recommended combo lol

The mac bowl is built on Dixie's signature mac and cheese, topped with your choice of chicken, pork, beef, and more. Chicken is really the star here — brined for 24 hours, then aged in buttermilk for 12 hours. Because of that, it's sold in limited quantities and can run out early, so calling ahead is a good idea!!

Beyond the bowls there are also plates, baskets, and a fries menu. Burgers are famous here too, but they're lunch-only, so we couldn't try one ㅠㅠ bummer

Drinks and alcohol options are pretty varied too.

We ordered two of the signature rice bowls — braised pork and mac and chicken. And of course, beer was non-negotiable!! Went with a Big Wave bottle for old times' sake.

As soon as we ordered, they brought out the Big Wave bottled beer.

The braised pork rice bowl came out about 5 minutes after ordering. The look of it reminded me of pulled pork haha

You can customize everything piece by piece, but this — the braised pork rice bowl — is the most popular recommended dish! Rice on the bottom, topped with meat, lettuce, onion, pickles, jalapeños, tomato, and sauce.

While I was busy taking photos, the mac and chicken showed up too! Apparently the chicken is fried fresh to order, so it takes a bit longer.

Well-fried chicken sits on rich mac and cheese, finished with hot sauce, jalapeños, and a few pickle slices.

The curly, unusually shaped macaroni noodles were interesting.

How does Dixie's braised pork rice bowl taste?

The way to eat the braised pork rice bowl: first, squeeze that bright lime all over it

First bite: the braised pork on its own haha. Salty, savory pork flavor filled my mouth. It's completely different from Korean samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) — exotic, bold flavor! A totally different side of pork haha

Then I took a bite mixed thoroughly with the rice underneath. The rice felt kind of Southeast Asian — long grains, dry and not sticky at all!! Totally different from chewy Korean rice, but honestly it worked really well with the toppings. Maybe because it's South American food, but the seasoning felt bolder than the Korean food I usually eat. The kind of flavor that just pulls the beer down automatically haha. It could've been heavy with just meat, but the vegetables balanced everything out nicely.

Mac and chicken bowl: even the mildest spice level has a kick

For the mac and chicken bowl, start with the chicken first!! The crispy fried coating already has its own seasoning baked in. The chicken thigh meat was juicy and tender, which I loved. When you order mac and chicken you can pick a hot sauce spice level — we ordered the mildest, and it still had a slight kick haha. Definitely the kind of flavor that calls for beer lol

I've only ever had mac and cheese with short macaroni, so Dixie's curly noodle version was a fun surprise. Tossed in thick, rich cheese, cooked to a perfectly chewy texture — top-tier lol

It's cheese-drenched enough to feel heavy on its own, but paired with beer and chicken, it's genuinely the best ㅠㅠㅠ

Calories... don't know her.. future me will hit the gym and burn it off.. it's fine, I'm climbing Hallasan tomorrow anyway... scraped the bowl clean lol

Great food, great atmosphere, and friendly service all in one — Dixie's is a genuinely different kind of restaurant near Jeju's Dongmun Market. If you're tired of the usual black pork and braised hairtail, I recommend Dixie's~~!
