Omegi-tteok (glutinous rice cake) is one thing I really wanted to bring home from Jeju! You know, back when omegi-tteok was super trendy — was that around when that show, Witch Hunt? was popular, haha. There are so many famous omegi-tteok shops in Jeju that I had a hard time deciding where to buy, but I stopped by Suragan Tteokbang, known for its omegi-tteok, and picked up a gift-packed set!

Looking into it, Suragan Tteokbang also has a store on Naver's shopping platform, so nationwide delivery is possible — turns out it's a pretty large-scale rice cake shop! It's close to Jeju Airport too, so it's perfect to stop by on the last day of your trip. When you travel, eating good food on the spot is great, but sometimes you want to enjoy it again at home too~ Omegi-tteok especially travels well packed up, so it makes a great souvenir from a Jeju trip!

What else does Suragan Tteokbang sell besides omegi-tteok?

At Suragan Tteokbang, besides omegi-tteok they also sell baram-tteok, songpyeon, kkul-tteok, jeungpyeon, ssuk-jeolpyeon, bangul-jeolpyeon, castella injeolmi, injeolmi, angeum-jeolpyeon, and more — such a huge variety of rice cakes that I wanted to try them all one by one (I love rice cakes..😝). And they also had the pumpkin injeolmi that's trending these days..!! They gave me one to try and it was seriously delicious... I also like the popular pop-up version in Seoul, but this one had its own style and was just as good, honestly? I should order it by delivery!

Inside the box: ice-pack packing and how to store the rice cakes

I opened up the nicely packed box..! They didn't just toss it in — they prepared the ice-pack packaging so carefully, which I really liked.

The storage instructions were also kindly and thoroughly explained! *Freeze immediately upon receipt*

• After taking it out of the box, don't put it in an airtight container — spread it out and store in the freezer.
• Do not store in the refrigerator or kimchi fridge; eat within 2 hours of taking it out of the freezer.
• In particular, delivered products are hard to thaw naturally.
• After removing the wrapping, cut it in half and microwave for about 20–30 seconds to soften before eating.

They packed the omegi-tteok so neatly by type~ Carrying rice cakes from Jeju to another region always makes you worry whether they'll stay in good condition, but the careful freezer packaging eased that worry a lot. The flight even got delayed, so I was worried the rice cakes might spoil before I got home, but the packaging was solid enough that I felt at ease!

They're individually wrapped by flavor — tangerine, barley, soybean powder, nut, red bean, black sesame — which makes them easy to store and lets you pick whichever one you want to eat!

How the omegi-tteok tasted back home after the delayed flight

Once I got home, I put them straight in the freezer and later took some out to eat — completely chewy..! Even better than I expected. That signature chewy texture of omegi-tteok pairs so well with the sweet, nutty flavor of the red bean, and it goes great with coffee or tea too~ The outside is generously coated in red bean, so you taste the nutty red bean first, then the chewy rice cake underneath comes through nicely.

The tangerine omegi-tteok had a subtle citrus flavor that felt distinctly Jeju and tasted great, and the black sesame and soybean powder ones were nutty and delicious too! The red bean and nut ones seem like they'd especially appeal to older folks. And that trendy pumpkin injeolmi was also really good..

It's a snack that's relatively easy for most people to like, and since it's individually portioned, it's great for sharing with family or friends too — so omegi-tteok seems like a solid choice if you're trying to figure out what to bring back from Jeju! Above all, the rice cakes themselves were delicious, which made my visit to Suragan Tteokbang in Jeju really satisfying.
