In short

Manpo Galbi Uijeongbu Main Branch is a handmade charcoal galbi and Hamhung naengmyeon restaurant on Beomgol-ro 145beon-gil in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. Two diners ordered three servings of handmade marinated galbi at 16,000 won per 250g, and the owner grilled the meat over a charcoal brazier himself, calling out when to flip it; they added brisket doenjang jjigae and finished with the free water and spicy naengmyeon. Both the meat and the service made Manpo Galbi an easy recommendation for anyone looking for galbi in Uijeongbu.

Once the weather turns cool, I always start craving charcoal-grilled marinated galbi. Searching for a galbi spot in Uijeongbu after work, I spotted a line about free handmade naengmyeon and ended up at Manpo Galbi on Beomgol-ro. Bottom line up front: the meat was delicious and the owner was kind, so I can easily recommend this to anyone hunting for galbi in Uijeongbu.

What kind of restaurant is Manpo Galbi?

Manpo Galbi is a handmade charcoal galbi and Hamhung naengmyeon specialist. Under the round yellow-lit logo sign reading 'handmade charcoal galbi, Hamhung naengmyeon specialist,' both sides of the entrance display the lunch special info and a line noting this is a galbi restaurant that gives out free handmade naengmyeon. There's a dedicated customer parking lot, so arriving by car isn't a hassle. Inside, a wall text spells out the meaning of the restaurant's name — 滿 (man) meaning 'full' and 浦 (po) meaning 'to give generously' — and by the time I left, that claim didn't feel like an exaggeration. The interior is lined with large fridges bearing the Manpo Galbi logo, with a charcoal brazier set into every table.

Manpo Galbi menu and prices

Manpo Galbi's signature dishes are the handmade LA galbi at 250g for ₩25,000 and the handmade marinated galbi at 250g for ₩16,000. The LA galbi uses ribs No. 6, 7, and 8 — the 'flower rib' cuts with the richest marbling and flavor out of 13 rib bones — while the marinated galbi is described as an authentic pork galbi made from 100% rib meat marinated in the restaurant's own sauce. There's also raw marinated beef short rib at 250g for ₩35,000 and raw hanwoo-style pork short rib at 200g for ₩17,000. Weekday lunch specials include a galbi sotbap (hot-pot rice) set for ₩11,000, Manpo galbitang for ₩14,000, and a naengmyeon-plus-yukjeon set for ₩13,000. Side add-ons include extra yukhoe (raw beef) for ₩13,000, brisket doenjang jjigae for ₩4,000, pudding egg custard for ₩3,000, and rice for ₩1,000, while the handmade Hamhung naengmyeon in both water and spicy versions is free. There are also gift packs — 2kg of handmade marinated galbi for ₩60,000 and 2kg of LA galbi for ₩100,000 — worth keeping in mind ahead of a holiday.

Side dishes and the table setting at Manpo Galbi

The banchan (side dishes) at Manpo Galbi arrived all at once on a wooden tray. There was japchae (glass noodles) with carrot, chive, and wood ear mushroom, a plate of well-seasoned yukhoe served over perilla leaves, fried gim-bugak (crispy seaweed chips), potato salad topped with garlic flakes, pickled onion, and lettuce — a surprisingly varied lineup for a galbi restaurant's standard sides. I was especially happy to see yukhoe served as a standard side for the first time, and it was fresh, going down smoothly with a hint of sesame oil.

Three servings of marinated galbi grilled by the owner

The three servings of handmade marinated galbi we ordered arrived still attached to the bone. The marinade wasn't overly red, letting the natural color of the meat show through — a sign the owner trusted the ingredient itself. Charcoal in the brazier glowed red-hot, and the owner came over personally to lay the meat down, teaching us exactly when to flip it and how to grill it. Once the outside turned golden, he snipped it into bite-sized pieces with scissors; the first bite led with the meat's own flavor before a gentle marinade aroma followed. The charcoal smoke had soaked in enough that gnawing on the meat clinging to the bone end was its own small pleasure. The three servings were plenty for two of us, and we left completely full.

Midway through the meal we added the brisket doenjang jjigae (₩4,000). Packed with beef brisket, tofu, radish, and scallion, it was savory and a little spicy, resetting the palate perfectly between bites of galbi. We ordered two bowls of rice to go with it. The finale was the restaurant's pride: handmade Hamhung naengmyeon. They bring out one water-based and one spicy naengmyeon for free as dessert, and because the noodles are made in-house, they had real chew and bounce. The spicy naengmyeon's sauce was sweet-and-spicy, ideal after galbi, while the water naengmyeon's cold broth rinsed away the smoky charcoal scent. It's rare for a galbi restaurant to give this much naengmyeon on the house, and it left a real impression.

Service at Manpo Galbi and the review event

The owner was genuinely kind. He explained the cuts while grilling for us and asked ahead of time when we'd like the naengmyeon served, so we could time the finish just right. There's also an event where writing and saving a Naver receipt review gets you 100ml of Hwarang rice wine on the house — and the amusing tip was that it tastes even better mixed 1:1 with soju.

Who should visit Manpo Galbi in Uijeongbu?

I'd recommend this to anyone in Uijeongbu wanting marinated galbi for a family meal, anyone who wants charcoal galbi and naengmyeon in one sitting, or anyone looking for a galbi restaurant with easy parking. The weekday ₩11,000 galbi sotbap lunch set also makes it a solid option for office workers, and it's worth a visit for anyone checking out holiday gift galbi packs too.
