Thanon55: a Thai restaurant near the Sejong Government Complex

I visited Thanon55 at Best Western Plus Hotel Sejong, well known as a Thai food specialist near the Sejong Government Complex. ^^ If you're driving, you can park for free in the building's underground parking lot. From the entrance, I already felt like I'd stepped into Thailand — the local vibe got me excited before I even opened the door. Here's how it went enjoying the mu tod curry and shrimp pad thai I'd been looking forward to! 😁

Interior with Thai local ambiance

Yellow and blue interior with a slice of Thailand

The moment I walked in, I couldn't help but go "Wow!! So pretty~" The yellow-and-blue combo grabs your eye right away, with green added through lighting and props, and red woven in through cushions and the like — it was just so, so pretty. Thanks to the interior's strong Thai local feel, I really got to enjoy a distinctive atmosphere.

Blue steel structures and yellow walls, with wood-tone tables and blue chairs arranged throughout.

Colorful Thai-style seating area

On one side there's a shoes-off seated area with low tables. Colorful cushions and traditional props are placed around, so it's impossible not to take photos there. It's a cozy spot to enjoy the meal.

There's also a long sofa seating area running along the wall, with cute tile decorations wrapped around the yellow wall above it. Around the ceiling lights, lush green plants drape leaves as if embracing the light, giving off a real resort feel. Gold-toned decorations with the number 55 add a nice finishing touch to the careful interior design.

The simple salad bar and Thanon55's second entrance

The simple salad bar has bowls, forks, pickled radish, and shredded radish.

There's also a door next to the salad bar, and going through it I found another entrance — this one leads toward the shopping mall. The flower beds were pretty and so was the lighting. After the meal I looked around a bit and took photos in front of a crescent-moon light fixture^^

Ordering mu tod curry and shrimp pad thai

We got pickled peppers (gochu chojangajji) as a basic side to go along with the meal. There's crunchy pickled radish and radish salad, plus tangy, spicy peppers you can scoop out yourself from the jar with a spoon attached inside the lid. On the table there are also spice and sauce containers you can add to taste.

Finally, the dishes we'd ordered arrived. The mu tod curry — crispy pork cutlet paired with rich curry and chili sauce — and the shrimp pad thai with plump, springy shrimp looked delicious just to look at. Even the plates were blue. The overall color sense here is really great^^

How is the shrimp pad thai at Thanon55?

The pad thai, loaded with big shrimp, had great texture from crunchy bean sprouts, soft egg, pad thai noodles, and nutty peanut powder. There's a bit of chili powder(?) on the side you can mix in as much as you like. It was also fun hunting for the little shrimp tucked in between bites. Sweet, a little spicy, crunchy — really delicious.

Mu tod curry: crispy pork cutlet in rich curry

Another highlight is the mu tod curry, combining fried pork cutlet with curry. White rice, neatly sliced pork cutlet, and a rich curry sauce looked mouthwatering just to see. It also came with chili sauce topped with chili powder(?).

The pork cutlet was crispy outside and moist inside — delicious on its own, delicious with the curry, and a perfect match dipped in chili sauce too. The yellow curry had soft, fluffy egg that was sweet and tasty, topped with chopped green onion for a fragrant finish.

  • Dip it right into the chili sauce~ 👍
  • Eat the meat with the curry
  • Pile on plenty of the spicy chili powder(?)
  • Have it with the sour pickled pepper too
  • Pair it with the pad thai shrimp
  • Eat it with the crunchy pickled radish and radish salad
  • And finally, pile on every side dish at once~~~
