Sejong sotbap and ramen self-bar Korean restaurant: Chung-sil Hoegwan
In short
Chung-sil Hoegwan (충실회관) is a meat and Korean food restaurant on Noeul 3-ro in Hansol-dong, Sejong. The meal was kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) and gyeranjjim (steamed egg) served with sotbap (rice cooked in a stone pot), plus enoki mushrooms and ramen noodles boiled in the stew from the self-bar, finishing with sungnyung (scorched rice tea) poured into the empty pot. Chung-sil Hoegwan is a comfortable choice for a filling Korean meal rather than a flashy menu.

Today I went for a filling meal in Sejong at "Chung-sil Hoegwan." With the temperature swings lately, the thing I naturally crave is a hot soup dish, so I headed to Hansol-dong craving kimchi jjigae and visited Chung-sil Hoegwan.

Where is Chung-sil Hoegwan in Sejong, and what are the hours and parking?
Chung-sil Hoegwan is a restaurant located at Hansol-dong 929, off Noeul 3-ro in Sejong. It's open daily from 11:00 to 22:00, closed on Mondays, with a break time from 14:30 to 17:00. Parking is available in the building's basement.
It's a restaurant on Noeul 3-ro in Sejong that quietly catches your eye as you pass by. Stepping inside, I got a bright, cozy feeling overall. It has a bit of a BBQ-restaurant vibe while also serving proper Korean meals, so it seemed like a good spot for either lunch or dinner.

What is the dining room at Chung-sil Hoegwan like?
The interior of Chung-sil Hoegwan had soft, ambient lighting that made the space feel bright, and the neatly kept interior made for a comfortable meal — I was satisfied.
The tables were spaced generously too, so I could sit without feeling cramped. It's a good spot to eat with friends, and comfortable enough for a family outing too.
What we ordered: kimchi jjigae and gyeranjjim with sotbap
Looking over the menu at Chung-sil Hoegwan, I ordered kimchi jjigae and gyeranjjim. The galbi kimchi hot pot and kimchi jjigae were in a takeout discount period. I figured a hot stew with sotbap would be just right. Take a look at the menu photos too!

First came a variety of basic side dishes. Extra sides and vegetables are self-serve.

After ordering and waiting a bit, the spread started arriving one by one. The first thing that caught my eye was the sotbap.
It was loaded with big, fresh pieces of pork, tofu, kimchi, scallion, and mushrooms.

How did the kimchi jjigae and gyeranjjim taste?
Taking a spoonful of Chung-sil Hoegwan's kimchi jjigae broth, the deep flavor of the kimchi came through well — savory yet refreshing. Not too intense, and it went great with rice. Absolutely nailed it, haha.
The gyeranjjim, softly cooked, had a great texture from the first bite. Warm, nutty, and not too heavily seasoned, so it was easy to eat between other bites — my spoon kept reaching for it.

There was plenty of stuff in the stew too, which paired well with rice. Piling the kimchi jjigae ingredients on top of the hot sotbap, the rice just kept disappearing.

The kimchi and pork were really generous and tasty — I was satisfied.

Enoki mushrooms and ramen noodles from the self-bar
I grabbed some enoki mushrooms from Chung-sil Hoegwan's self-bar.

And... ramen noodles were available too, ready to cook however you like. Eating ramen partway through the kimchi jjigae — wow, cooking it up made for a truly filling meal. This kind of service isn't common, so it was really nice. It was so generous I was fully satisfied.

Finishing the sotbap with sungnyung (scorched rice tea)
As the meal was winding down, the water poured into the pot earlier had turned into sungnyung. Taking a spoonful, the nutty scorched-rice aroma was really savory and delicious. Finishing off with a warm bowl of sungnyung made for a clean, satisfying end.

The vegetables and side dishes at the self-bar were fresh too, and the meat was tasty as well — good ingredients, well managed.

A self-bar full of neat side dishes and unlimited ingredients!! Overall, Chung-sil Hoegwan is a restaurant where you can comfortably enjoy hearty Korean food rather than a flashy menu. The whole spread — sotbap, kimchi jjigae, fresh side dishes, and sungnyung — was generous and delicious, and I was very satisfied.
