Sajik-dong BBQ with floor seats and a baby chair: Bulmak Yeolsam

In short

Bulmak Yeolsam Sajik is a pork belly and makchang (grilled pork intestine) restaurant in Sajik-dong, Dongnae-gu, Busan, an 8-minute walk from Sajik Station Exit 3. Bulmak Yeolsam Sajik has floor tables and a baby chair for dining with a child, and the set menu brings two servings of fresh pork belly, two of fresh makchang, one doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and cheese grilled at the table, plus a slushy soju demo. Burning makchang! Fired-up pork belly! I got to enjoy both at great value at this Sajik-dong pork belly spot, Bulmak Yeolsam.

Floor tables and baby chairs for dining with kids

Inside Bulmak Yeolsam Sajik, the space is divided into a spacious hall, a somewhat separated inner area, and floor tables. I only photographed the spaces without other diners in them.

Kids definitely seem to love the floor tables — the moment my son saw them he wanted to sit there right away, haha. A baby chair was ready too, and the staff were friendly.

The side dish spread and the slushy soju demo

We got tofu kimchi, pickled radish, carrots, peppers, onions, and dressed lettuce as banchan (side dishes).

The tofu kimchi is great for nibbling on while waiting for the meat to arrive.

They gave us a direct demo of turning soju into slushy, frosty soju — tapping the bottom of the bottle with a mallet, which was surprisingly fun to watch! From the second bottle on, my husband tried it himself too, haha.

What comes in the pork belly, makchang and cheese set

We ordered the set menu with 2 raw pork belly + 2 raw makchang + 1 doenjang jjigae + grillable cheese. Since the makchang is pre-grilled fresh to order, it comes out a little later, so we started with the domestic raw pork belly first. King oyster mushrooms and enoki mushrooms came alongside.

Not long after, the raw makchang and cheese arrived too! Now we were fully ready to dig in.

We also ordered a bowl of rice, and it came out as black rice, which was an even nicer touch!

Extra order of black rice

Just as the pork belly turned golden brown and we were about to dig in, the doenjang jjigae arrived too. The set menu is so appealing.

Chadol doenjang jjigae included in the set menu

The doenjang jjigae had chadol (thin-sliced beef brisket) in it, which gave it a savory, delicious depth.

How does the scored Korean fresh pork belly taste?

The scored, domestic raw pork belly fills your mouth with savory, happy juices. Cut to just the right thickness, it was, as expected, delicious.

Grilled cheese with condensed milk, or as a three-way bite

Then we started grilling the cheese.

Golden-grilled cheese with condensed milk

The cheese is great grilled and dipped in condensed milk, or eaten as a three-way bite with meat and kimchi — genuinely delicious.

That addictive grillable cheese... if you can't get it in the set menu, definitely order it separately as a side. The savoriness of pork belly and cheese, plus the sweetness of condensed milk, is pure bliss for your mouth, seriously.

48-hour aged fresh makchang: any off smell?

Next up is the raw makchang, made even tastier by 48 hours of secret aging. Just grill it fully golden brown.

At this point, check out the <How to eat it best> guide too!

Funky smell? What's that? The makchang, savory with zero funky smell, had a crispy-yet-chewy texture I loved too. You can dip it in gochujang, doenjang, or barbecue sauce.

The long, elongated pieces of makchang were nice and chewy too!

Finishing with rice stirred into the doenjang jjigae

To finish, I mixed rice into the doenjang jjigae that came with the set menu and made myself some 'drinking rice.' Ah — so good.

Even our son grabbed a candy on the way out, haha.
