Gimhae Chinese restaurant walk-in: large tangsuyuk ₩35,000 at Dongbaek

I was looking for a place in Gimhae for a group gathering or family meal and ended up at Dongbaek, a Chinese restaurant with private rooms. I got to enjoy the comfortable room-dining atmosphere along with a variety of Chinese dishes. Let me introduce the vibe, the menu, and my honest review of Dongbaek, which I'd recommend as a Gimhae favorite.

Where Dongbaek is in Gimhae, and where to park

Dongbaek is on the 1st floor at 514 Gaya-ro, Gimhae, Gyeongnam (494-16 Dongsang-dong), South Korea. There's a separate underground lot and a second parking lot, so it was easy to get to by car.

Dongbaek sits on Gaya-ro in Dongsang-dong, Gimhae, so parking was convenient, and it's only about 10–15 minutes by car from Gimhae Gaya Theme Park and Gaya Land, making it a nice stop after an outing.

Inside Dongbaek: private rooms and how many they seat

Dongbaek offers bookable rooms, seating a minimum of 2 up to a maximum of 10, with group seating for up to 26. The elegant Chinese restaurant interior and calm background music made it easy to focus on the meal.

The elegant Chinese-restaurant-style interior stood out, and the calm music playing made for a nice atmosphere to focus on the food.

What I especially liked about Dongbaek is that there are room spaces, so you can eat comfortably in a spot separated from other diners.

True to its reputation as a Gimhae favorite, the entrance had a list of reserved guests scheduled by time.

The hall is set up with tables for four,

so if you need a private room for any number of people, I'd recommend booking ahead.

Since we visited without booking ahead, the rooms were full with reserved guests, so we split across two hall tables to eat.

Dongbaek menu and prices

Dongbaek's menu ranges from jjajangmyeon at ₩8,000 to yangjangpi (medium) at ₩38,000, and there are also course meals like Lunch Special Course A at ₩20,000, Course B at ₩25,000, and Dongbaek Course A at ₩30,000. Orders are placed at a kiosk.

Dongbaek lets you order easily via kiosk, and the menu ranges widely from fresh meat ganjajang, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk to a variety of Chinese dishes and premium course meals.

Ordering jjajangmyeon, shrimp fried rice and tangsuyuk

This time at Dongbaek we ordered jjajangmyeon (₩9,000), shrimp fried rice (₩10,000), and large tangsuyuk (₩35,000). We got to try jjajangmyeon, shrimp fried rice, and tangsuyuk this visit.

The jjajangmyeon came out first. The noodles were soft and not overly salty, which I liked.

The shrimp rice came out together with the black bean sauce, so you can enjoy it two ways.

One person in our group doesn't like jjajang sauce, so we asked for it to be served separately, and they happily obliged.

Of course, jjamppong broth came along with it too.

The jjamppong we ordered also arrived — I didn't try it myself, but it looked similar to what I'd had in a course meal before, and a bit different from other Chinese restaurants.

They also brought out separate kids' tableware for our little one, which made it easy to visit with a child. 😊

The meat in the jjajangmyeon was in big, generous pieces.

What the large tangsuyuk (₩35,000) was like

The tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) was especially good — thin batter wrapped around thick, tender meat, so the flavor of the meat really came through.

We ordered the largest size, got one plate, and split it between the two tables : ) On top of that, the staff were incredibly kind.

Is Dongbaek a good Chinese restaurant for family and group meals?

We tried jjajangmyeon, shrimp fried rice, and tangsuyuk à la carte, and it was satisfying all around. With private rooms available, it's a great spot for family or group gatherings in Gimhae, and comfortable to visit with kids too. The staff were friendly, making this a good reference point for anyone looking for a Gimhae favorite or a Chinese restaurant with private rooms.
