How to skip the wait at Boksan Haejang: go late in the lunch hour

Boksan Haejang is popular enough to have a table-management kiosk inside, so there's usually a wait — but since I went right near the end of lunch hours, I got seated right away, no waiting ✌🏻✌🏻

The inside was so pretty and clean… 🤎💚 It had a hanok (traditional Korean house) feel, which made the vibe even better, and with the nice weather the view through the big windows was gorgeous

Every table has salt, sansho pepper, perilla seeds, and black pepper all set out, plus a hair tie ready for serious eating — full marks for Boksan Haejang's attention to detail 💯💯

Boksan Haejang's menu and what we ordered

Boksan Haejang's menu has boksan haejangguk (hangover soup), haejang kalguksu (noodle soup), yukhoe bibimbap, and boksan yukhoe mulhoe (cold raw beef soup), plus side dishes like boksan pork bulgogi, yukhoe, and boksan mungtigi (raw beef cuts). The sides are reasonably priced too, so it's easy to order a few, and great for sharing one of each if you're with a group :)

What we ordered: Boksan Haejangguk, Yukhoe Bibimbap

True to a good haejangguk spot, the side dishes — pickled onion, diced radish kimchi, and radish salad — were clean and well-made, perfect alongside the soup. While we waited, the delivery alarm kept going off nonstop, and I thought, wow, this is really a neighborhood favorite! My expectations went up even more

What does boksan haejangguk taste like? A Gyeongsang-style beef gukbap

Think of boksan haejangguk as a Korean beef gukbap (soup with rice) — it's similar to Gyeongsang-style beef and radish soup, so it's clean but familiar tasting haha. Just plain delicious 🤤 The broth wasn't spicy or heavy so it went perfectly with rice, and next time I want to try it with noodles added

Boksan Haejangguk was packed with meat and glass noodles. Deep broth, generous toppings — loved it 😋 I found this place while looking for a good haejangguk spot in Buk-gu, Ulsan, and left full and satisfied ^^v

Yukhoe bibimbap at Boksan Haejang: the pick for solo diners

Boksan Haejang's yukhoe bibimbap was piled high with yukhoe (seasoned raw beef), satisfying just to look at !! Mixed with the rice, it was savory and clean-tasting. They also serve the gochujang (chili paste) on the side so you can add as much as you like, and it stayed light and non-spicy, easy to eat 🤤

The yukhoe portion was more generous than expected, and it came with a small serving of the beef gukbap too, so you get a bit of both :) Filling enough to be a full meal on its own — if I came alone, I'd order this one!

They were generous with fresh ingredients, which I really appreciated. Both the boksan haejangguk and the yukhoe bibimbap were delicious, so I recommend both !!!!! Highly recommend !!!!!!!!! Now I'm curious about the other menu items — I'll have to come back

Where the beef comes from, and the sign about not lying to customers

Everything at Boksan Haejang is domestically sourced ㅇ0ㅇ — even the meat is all domestic hanwoo (Korean beef) and Korean pork! It felt like they cared about every single ingredient, which made the meal even more satisfying

"Lie to a customer and you're a jerk." That sign really caught my eye and made me laugh ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ — a Boksan Haejang you can trust

I love Boksan Donkkaseu (pork cutlet), and I thought this might be the same restaurant, but it turns out they use a direct-trade sourcing system. No wonder Boksan Haejang was this delicious too~~~~~ Conclusion: Boksan is delicious !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The restroom was kept clean too, and I was touched by the thoughtful touch of mouthwash provided 👌🏻

Boksan Haejang is about 10 minutes by car from Ulsan Airport, so it's easy to get to and a great stop when you want a hearty meal 🍚 It's a bit of a shame that it's only open for lunch, but if you're looking for a satisfying lunch in Songjeong-dong, Ulsan, give Boksan Haejang a try 🤍
