Milyang Chinese restaurant at 5pm after break time: Milyang Dol
In short
Milyang Dol Jjamppong is a stone-plate jajangmyeon and jjamppong restaurant on Baekmin-ro in Milyang, Gyeongnam. Arriving right at 5pm when Milyang Dol Jjamppong's break time (15:30-17:00) ends, the writer ordered dol-jjajang (stone-plate black bean noodles), fried dumplings and sujedontang (handmade pork with two dipping sauces), then mixed free self-bar rice into the scorched rice crust left under the stone plate. The two sauces that change the taste of the sujedontang and that crispy crust made Milyang Dol Jjamppong a good dinner out with a child.

Back to Milyang Dol Jjamppong at 5pm, when break time ends
While traveling in Milyang, we stopped by Milyang Dol Jjajang (82-1 Baekmin-ro, 1st floor, Milyang-si, Gyeongsangnam-do) for dinner~ We were debating where to eat and searched Naver, and it kept coming up as one of the famous Milyang restaurants. Hours are 10:30 - 20:00, with a break time of 15:30 - 17:00.
We arrived a bit early, around 4pm, only to find out that break time ran from 3:30 to 5pm. We were hungry, but we really wanted to try this famous Milyang spot, so we killed some time nearby and came back right at 5pm when break time ended.
Parking at Milyang Dol Jjamppong: 4 spaces out front and a free lot
There was room for about 4 cars right in front of the store. Right next door, there was also a free vacant-lot parking area, so we didn't have to worry about parking at all. Milyang Dol Jjajang has free parking close by, so it was convenient to visit by car.

Is there a wait at 5pm in Milyang?
We came back right at 5, and there were already people waiting. It really is a well-known Milyang restaurant, so customers started gathering even before regular dinner time. Apparently it was also on a KBS broadcast not long ago.

If we'd been even a little later, the wait probably would have been much longer, so I think it's a good idea to time your visit right when break time ends. We waited a bit and got inside around 5pm.
Inside Milyang Dol Jjamppong
Part of the kitchen was open so you could see the food being prepared, and there was a sign saying each order becomes one finished dish, which felt like real care going into the food.

There was a fun little sign that said something like 'jjamppong today, jjajang next week, the order doesn't matter'~

The self-bar at Milyang Dol Jjamppong even has free rice
You don't need to order rice separately — the self-bar has as much as you want, ready to go. Mixing extra rice into the dol-jjajang made for a real treat.

Pickled radish, green onion kimchi, and onions were also set out at the self-bar. It was nice being able to grab more without feeling awkward if you ran out.

There was also sweet-and-sour sauce at the self-bar, so if you ran low while eating you could just grab more.

Milyang Dol Jjamppong's side dishes, served first
The basic side dishes — pickled radish, onion, and black bean paste — came out neatly. After a short wait, our order arrived~ We thought it would take a while since it was busy, but the food came out faster than expected, which was great.

Fried dumplings (gunmandu)

We also ordered fried dumplings. Crispy outside, moist inside — dipping them in the dol-jjajang made them a real treat. My kid loved the crunchy texture in the first bite~
Dol-jjajang: stone-plate black bean noodles with scorched rice crust
Finally, the Milyang Dol Jjajang arrived! It's served on a hot stone plate with scorched rice underneath and the jjajang noodles piled on top~

With squid and shrimp and a variety of vegetables, it looked so appetizing that we dug in right away.

We'd already grabbed a bowl of rice from the self-bar~

Once we'd eaten some of the jjajang, we got to the scorched rice crust stuck to the bottom, which gave it a whole different kind of fun compared to regular jjajangmyeon. Honestly the scorched rice was even better than the noodles~ Definitely add extra rice and mix it in! haha
Sujedontang: handmade pork with two dipping sauces
We also ordered the handmade pork stew, which is somewhere between pork cutlet and sweet-and-sour pork. It comes with both pork cutlet sauce and sweet-and-sour sauce, and even though it's the same dish, it tasted completely different depending on which sauce you dipped it in.

Dipped in the pork cutlet sauce, it really tasted like pork cutlet, and dipped in the sweet-and-sour sauce, it surprisingly tasted just like sweet-and-sour pork. haha

The crispy batter was fun to eat with my kid, and it also went well alongside the dol-jjajang.
Dessert at Milyang Dol Jjamppong: yogurt, candy and coffee
For dessert, there was yogurt, candy, and coffee and other teas ready~

It reminded me of the little yogurt drinks Chinese restaurants used to hand out after meals — such a warm, fun touch. It brought back childhood memories, and having a yogurt at the end left me feeling clean and satisfied~ We left this restaurant full and happy~
