Gangnam hair salon consult: ash brown dye and hair clinic, Anew Hair
In short
Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch is a one-on-one consultation hair salon on the second floor near Gangnam-gu Office Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Booked for a perm consult six months before a wedding shoot, the visitor changed course after a 20-minute consultation with the director and went with a less damaging ash brown dye plus the premium recovery clinic course instead. The heavy, tired look was tidied up and the hair texture changed noticeably, so even people wary of dyeing may find the consultation at Anew Hair worth taking.

I'd been mulling over a Gangnam hair salon dye job, and ended up getting the Anew Casse Color one-on-one custom consultation package from the director at Anew Hair Cheongdam. Honestly I originally went in for a perm. My wedding shoot was about six months away and my frizzy hair had been bugging me, so I booked wanting to keep the long length but manage it more neatly. But about 20 minutes into the consultation, everything went in a completely different direction.
Where is Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch, and what is the salon like inside?

Anew Hair is on the 2nd floor of the building. Coming from the station, you head up the uphill road,

and there's an elevator at the entrance of the alley on the left — just so you know.

True to being a one-on-one consultation package with the director, the various spaces inside the salon

gave the impression that the whole shop was set up to focus on consultation and treatment.
The 20-minute consultation that turned a perm into an ash brown dye

The director at Anew Hair looked at my hair extremely carefully for about 20 minutes. At first I figured it'd just be a perm consultation, but after checking the state of my hair she said that right now she'd actually recommend dyeing over perming.

I was originally the type who absolutely never dyed my hair. I'm cool-toned but my skin has a yellowish tint, so back when I didn't know any better I tried brown and it went badly more than once. So I'd just accepted that my current hair color was probably the optimal tone for me and left it at that.

But the director pointed out that my full bangs, frizzy hair, and current color were making my look feel heavy and tired. At first I didn't think much of it, but after she looked at everything — my skin tone, even my face shape — she said 'I think it'll work out well if you trust me,' and honestly I thought, well, why not, and went for it.
How the ash brown dye and recovery course clinic were done

In the end I went with a less-damaging dye plus a clinic recovery course, the most premium line among the clinic options. I figured if I was doing this, I should do it properly, sniffle. I really related to the idea that the tired look was partly due to my hair condition.

She checked the condition of my scalp and hair buildup first before starting, and with the repair course, the end result was hair texture I'd honestly never seen before in my life.
The whole process was also way faster than a regular perm, so it wasn't a burden, and since the director handled it herself personally, I was excited the whole time waiting to see the color come out.

She kept bringing me cookies and drinks in between,

and every little detail was thorough — applying cream so the product wouldn't touch my skin, putting on ear caps. All these small touches added up to make the whole treatment feel comfortable.
Before and after: the ash brown tone comes up a few days later

Above all, the before-and-after difference was really noticeable in the end.

My look went from tired-looking to something a little cleaner and softer. My hair texture also improved like crazy (sniff), and the color — at first I thought it had only changed a little, but as the days passed the color kept showing more than I expected, and under light it turned into a really pretty cool brown (ash brown)!! I think I only had a hang-up about dyeing because it used to be a color that didn't suit my face — this experience completely changed my mind.

Next time I'm definitely getting root touch-ups to keep maintaining this exact color!!
Is Anew Hair Cheongdam worth it? Final thoughts
I went in only thinking about a perm and ended up with a completely unexpected treatment. Seeing the result come out calmer with the tired look gone, I felt glad I trusted the director's words that day. If you're mulling over a Gangnam hair salon dye job, especially if you're like me and got so used to your current tone that you never tried anything else, it might be worth getting a professional consultation once, haha.
