Daegu cold noodle restaurant near Suseongmot: Golmok Naengmyeon 1966
In short
Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 is a naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) and dak hanmari (whole-chicken hot pot) restaurant on Deuran-gil in Suseong-gu, Daegu, a 10-minute walk from Suseongmot lake. Visiting with family, we ordered the Daegu-style dak hanmari set for 34,000 won, water and spicy naengmyeon for dessert at 6,000 won each, and a potato pancake for 7,000 won: the Seoul-style seafood broth was clean and light, while the dak hanmari broth was clear, deep and fragrant with garlic. Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 works for cold noodles on hot days and chicken hot pot once the weather turns chilly.

There are apparently a lot of naengmyeon restaurants in Daegu! My mom said her grandfather loved it and she used to go often as a kid, so since I was in Daegu I figured I'd try some naengmyeon haha!

What is Seoul-style naengmyeon?
Back in 1966 Seoul, a small nameless naengmyeon shop tucked inside the alley of Geumnam Market in Geumho-dong became known by word of mouth simply as 'the alley shop' (golmok-jip). Unlike Pyongyang-style naengmyeon, which uses meat broth, this became 'Seoul-style naengmyeon' — made with seafood broth and savory, spicy seasoning using ingredients fresh from the market.
Inside Golmok Naengmyeon 1966: seating and restrooms

Apparently Samsung Lions players including Koo Ja-wook come here a lot, and SSG Landers players have too! Must be a real Daegu hotspot haha.

The interior is super clean with lots of seating — looked like about 20 tables.

They advertise having the best restroom on Deuran-gil, and it's free to use for anyone — super clean, and they even have mouthwash set out!! Really thoughtful touch.
Golmok Naengmyeon 1966 menu and prices

Dak hanmari single ₩31,000, dak hanmari set ₩34,000, han-mari-ban ₩43,000, han-mari-ban set ₩47,000, jukbap (porridge rice) ₩2,000. The set comes with kalguksu noodles and 2 dumplings!

If you order dak hanmari, you can add dessert naengmyeon for ₩6,000 — regular water or spicy naengmyeon is ₩10,000. This place is thoughtful — they even have hair ties, a portable charger, and a cushion for pregnant guests.

The side dishes were also neatly prepared!
Daegu-style dak hanmari set, 34,000 won

Dak hanmari set for ₩34,000. Since Daegu-style dak hanmari is a new menu item, I was curious what makes it different, so we ordered it for 2 people first! Loads of potatoes in it, and plenty of fresh vegetables came out too!

Dessert water and spicy naengmyeon, 6,000 won each
Dessert water naengmyeon for ₩6,000. This was my first time trying Seoul-style naengmyeon, so it was interesting!! I'd only ever had the meat-broth kind, so the seafood broth felt cleaner and lighter, if that makes sense? The noodles weren't too chewy either, which was nice. And it was surprising to see red pepper flakes sprinkled on top?

Dessert spicy naengmyeon for ₩6,000. The spicy version was a bit sweet. Not too spicy though! But the red pepper flakes on top gave it a really clean flavor! And by the way, all the ingredients here are domestic!

Gamjajeon (potato pancake), 7,000 won
Potato pancake (gamjajeon) for ₩7,000. They grill it in a waffle iron, so it's thick but crispy on the outside — pretty unique!! Kind of felt like eating ongsimi (rice dumplings) and hash browns at the same time..!? They even give you ketchup on the side, so it really does feel like hash browns. Eating it with the onions they provide is perfect.
The 10-minute hourglass: what to eat first
For the dak hanmari kalguksu, they give you an hourglass and tell you to wait 10 minutes after it starts boiling before eating. In the meantime, dipping the vegetables in soy sauce was clean and really tasty! I burned the roof of my mouth eating it though...
I wondered what made it 'Daegu-style' dak hanmari, and after eating it, I think there's quite a lot of garlic in it!! Clear yet deep broth! Not overly sweet, but not salty either!!

Later they bring out the kalguksu noodles and dumplings — they say the dumplings taste great mashed up later when making the porridge!! It was genuinely savory and delicious!

Finishing with the porridge was really clean and delicious. Perfect.
Definitely try it if you come to Daegu.

After finishing everything, they give you dessert candy and even a toothpick-slash-floss..! Such a thoughtful place.
Finished eating with the family and took a walk nearby afterward — it was perfect. Naengmyeon when it's hot out! Dak hanmari when it turns chilly and you need something nourishing! Definitely give it a try!!
