Suseong-gu, Daegu pork galbi restaurant, 800g set: Dugeundugeun

In short

Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi is a charcoal-grilled pork galbi restaurant on Nobyeon-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu, between Suseong Alpha City and Sizi Plaza. Four servings of pork galbi (800g) cost 48,000 won, eaten here with kimchi mari guksu (cold kimchi noodle soup) at 7,000 won and rice, and the marinade was not overly sweet, so the meat's own flavor and the charcoal smoke both came through. A fried egg among the side dishes and a complimentary sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew) make Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi an easy choice for work dinners and family meals.

I went to Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi, a well-known spot in Sizi, Daegu. It's a meat restaurant located between Alpha City and Sizi. This time I had the crowd-pleasing pork galbi, and the sauce wasn't overdone — it let the naturally aged meat's own flavor shine through. Let's get into the detailed review 😉

Inside Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi: window seats and the self-serve bar

Interior seating with floor-to-ceiling windows at Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi

The inside was spacious and comfortable. The window side had floor-to-ceiling glass, which gave it an open feel with high ceilings and good ventilation. I sat by the window. The weather's been nice lately, so the green street trees made for a good view haha.

With plenty of seats and space, it's also a good place for work dinners or gatherings.

On one side there's a self-serve bar with lettuce, perilla leaves, peppers, kimchi, pickled radish, onions, cucumber salad, and more, so you can refill as much as you like.

Side dishes at Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi, fried egg included

The basic side dishes included napa cabbage kimchi, myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves), pickled onions, cucumber salad, sliced garlic, pickled radish, and gungchae jangajji (pickled aster stems).

Fried egg and jaerae-gi kimchi among the basic sides

What I liked among the basic sides was that a fried egg came out too. It settled my stomach as a starter and was savory and delicious! The jaerae-gi (fresh cut kimchi) had lettuce and shredded scallion mixed in, and its refreshing taste went really well with the meat.

How the charcoal-grilled pork galbi tastes

The ordered pork galbi, 4 servings

What we ordered: pork galbi 4 servings (800g) ₩48,000, kimchi mari guksu ₩7,000, and 2 bowls of rice ₩2,000.

Thick-cut seasoned pork galbi

The pork galbi came out cut slightly thick, well seasoned. It looked appetizing, glistening with sauce it had soaked up.

They put it on the grill and started cooking it — since it's grilled over charcoal, seasoned meat needs to be turned often. Stacking it up like a tower lets the smoke seep into the meat, so it naturally takes on the charcoal aroma, and I could really enjoy that deep smoky flavor.

Seasoned pork galbi grilling over charcoal

You know that distinct good smell when pork galbi is grilled over charcoal? The one that's hard to resist when you walk past a meat restaurant? That's exactly the smell that filled the air. You really do need to eat pork galbi on a regular basis haha.

Seasoned pork galbi paired with side dishes

Taking a bite of the well-grilled pork galbi, I noticed that many other restaurants' galbi sauce leans quite sweet, but here it was just the right sweetness, so I could enjoy the meat's own flavor along with the sauce's savory depth at the same time. Since the seasoned galbi wasn't overpowering, it paired nicely with the generous side dishes. Wrapping it with the salty myeongi namul or crisp shredded onion was a great combo!

A piece of pork galbi placed on a bowl of rice

The moment I ate the meat, my body started craving rice. Ordered a bowl right away! This is exactly what people mean by a rice-thief dish. I put a piece of pork galbi on plain rice, and just like that, the fatigue from the weekday melted away haha.

The complimentary sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew)

The generous owner gave us a complimentary sundubu jjigae. I mixed the rich broth and soft tofu with a bit of rice. There was even an egg inside — so filling!! It's got a bit of spicy kick, the kind that keeps your spoon coming back.

Kimchi mari guksu (cold kimchi noodle soup), 7,000 won

Noodles lifted from the kimchi mari guksu bowl

I used to often have doenjang jjigae or cold noodles after eating meat, but lately I've also come to like this refreshing kimchi mari guksu. This place clearly seasons things well. It's kimchi mari guksu that's not overdone but still tastes refined! The noodles were cooked just right too, which was satisfying. I'll definitely order kimchi mari guksu again next time haha. Even though we were already full, my partner and I slurped it all down.

Is Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi worth a visit?

Table at Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi after finishing the meal

I visited Dugeundugeun Sutbulgalbi, a well-known spot in Sizi, Daegu, and the pork galbi — aged and seasoned without being overdone — had a subtle charcoal aroma that made it truly irresistible, and the side dish of kimchi mari guksu also hinted at the owner's cooking skill. The owner and staff took care of everything thoughtfully and kindly on their own, so I could eat comfortably. It's close to Sizi Plaza and Suseong Alpha City, making it a great spot for work dinners or family gatherings, so I'd definitely recommend a visit 😘
