When you're craving warm broth to share with the kids these days, shabu-shabu is always a solid choice!

This time I visited Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch (호밀원샤브칼국수 김포본점) in Gimpo! We didn't just order shabu kalguksu — we went for the Hansang Gadeuk Special. Shabu-shabu, kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), master's boiled pork, and jjukkumi (webfoot octopus) stir-fry with tons of smoky flavor — the table was truly packed full, just like the name promises 🤍
Parking and interior at Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch
Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch has plenty of parking space right in front, so it was easy to visit by car. They say it fits 20+ cars, so you don't have to worry about parking even for a family outing or a visit with parents. Once inside, the atmosphere was actually more upscale than I expected!

The space felt clean and comfortable rather than chaotic and crowded, which was great during the meal, and it worked well for a relaxed family meal too. It seemed like the kind of place people come to more for a family outing or gathering than just for a quick bowl of noodles.

From baby chairs to kids' tableware and even a children's menu — you'll really be satisfied here.
What comes with the Hansang Gadeuk Special, from shabu-shabu to rye kalguksu

What we ordered that day was the Hansang Gadeuk Special! As the dishes started coming out one by one, the table really did fill up, just like the name says!

Fresh shabu vegetables and shabu meat were the basics, and on top of that came the master's boiled pork and smoky jjukkumi stir-fry — the lineup was seriously generous.
In particular, the kalguksu noodles that go into the shabu-shabu aren't regular wheat noodles — they said it's rye kalguksu, made with rye flour.

Cooking meat and vegetables in the hot broth first and then moving on to the noodles made for a really filling meal. The broth wasn't harsh at all — it was clean, and I especially liked that. At the end, you can even finish it off with porridge or fried rice, which made it even better...🤍 The broth is mild enough to eat with kids too, so when we visited as a family, we didn't have to separately figure out adult and kid menus, which was nice haha.
How did the master's boiled pork and jjukkumi stir-fry taste?

And the dishes that were more delicious than I expected this time were the master's boiled pork and the jjukkumi stir-fry!

Apparently the boiled pork is made personally by the owner, who's a recognized master in the boiled pork category of a world food masters competition — you could tell from the texture alone once you tried it.

And it turns out — the owner has even appeared on a well-known TV show... of course they have 🤍

The boiled pork really wasn't dry at all — it had a chewy yet tender texture that kept me reaching for more. It was light enough to pair nicely with the shabu-shabu too.

The jjukkumi stir-fry was spicy in just the right way — not spicy just for the sake of it, but the kind of spiciness that wakes up your appetite, with a proper smoky kick too. It had a completely different charm from the boiled pork. Eating the mild shabu-shabu, then a bite of spicy jjukkumi, then back to the boiled pork haha — each dish had such a different flavor profile that I never got tired of it.

Free refills of beef mushroom radish rice at the self-serve bar
On top of all that, there was also beef mushroom radish rice, combining beef, mushrooms, and radish, so we got to eat rice properly too haha.

You can refill the beef mushroom radish rice as much as you like at the self-serve bar! It's rice made with care, so no leaving any behind — got it? Got it!!!!
Why Homilwon works for a family meal in Gimpo
Ordering just shabu-shabu on its own is good too, but if you want to try several dishes at once, the Hansang Gadeuk Special setup was really great. From the clean, warm shabu kalguksu to the chewy-yet-tender master's boiled pork and the smoky spicy jjukkumi stir-fry, each dish had a clear personality of its own, which made eating through the whole spread genuinely fun.
I especially liked that there was a mild broth dish for eating with kids, alongside a spicier option that adults would enjoy too.

After the meal, they even had sweet misugaru and savory popcorn ready for us — you can immediately tell how generous the owner is, right?
The atmosphere was upscale and comfortable, and parking was plentiful, so this is a good one to remember when looking for a Gimpo shabu-shabu restaurant or a Gimpo kalguksu restaurant to visit with family. Definitely worth a visit 🤍
