In short

Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is a shabu kalguksu (hot pot with knife-cut noodles) restaurant on Geolpo-ro in Gimpo, Gyeonggi, built around an agaricus mushroom broth. On this third visit the table ordered the Hansang-gadeuk Special Agaricus Shabu Kalguksu for two at 19,900 won per person, which came with master's suyuk (boiled pork), smoky jjukkumi (baby octopus) stir-fry, unlimited beef, mushroom and radish rice, plus heotgae tea and caramel popcorn for dessert. With the weather warming up I was craving hot shabu-shabu, so I went to Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu, a well-known spot in Gimpo — it's even been on the TV show VJ Special Forces haha.

There's a neon sign right at the entrance to the alley and the building stands out, so it's easy to find.

Spacious parking lot in front of the restaurant

The parking lot in front of the restaurant is spacious so parking was really convenient.

🪑 Inside: a wide dining room with baby chairs

The interior is spacious so it looks great for groups! I felt the atmosphere and menu would also work well for bringing your parents along haha.

What comes with the Special Agaricus Shabu Kalguksu for two?

~menu board~ Besides shabu kalguksu, they also have king rib shabu hot pot, raw fish bossam, and minari (water dropwort) jeon (pancake)! Actually this was already my third visit haha. This time I ordered the Hansang-gadeuk Special Agaricus Shabu Kalguksu for 2 at ₩19,900 each!

It's the basic Homilwon agaricus shabu kalguksu with jjukkumi stir-fry and boiled pork added. There are also options with just the jjukkumi stir-fry or just the cold boiled pork added, so you can choose based on your taste haha.

Unlimited beef mushroom radish rice and the self-serve bar

Homilwon offers unlimited refills of beef mushroom radish rice made with Gimpo Geumssal rice — and it's honestly a real delicacy..

You scoop as much rice as you want, drizzle on sesame oil, and mix it with either gochujang or soy sauce, whichever you prefer haha.

The self-serve corner had sweet chili sauce, spicy dadegi, geotjeori (fresh kimchi), and green onion kimchi. Geotjeori is already served with the meal, so grab more if you need it.

This time I tried it with soy sauce! Can you see how the rice is packed with radish, mushrooms and beef? And it's free..😋 You could finish a whole bowl with just this rice and kimchi (it's great that you get rice without having to order a separate bowl of rice!).

Even the water isn't plain water — it's heotgae tea..♡ Drinking heotgae tea alongside agaricus shabu-shabu really makes you feel healthier haha.

The shabu-shabu spread and the scent of minari

The shabu-shabu came out first! It's served with beef neck meat, rye kalguksu, perilla oil fried rice, and kimchi. The shabu-shabu has enoki, oyster mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms, bok choy, minari, and mung bean sprouts.

Once the broth boils, you add the meat! It's not too fatty so it tastes clean. There were sauces at every table along with scissors and tongs! The broth was refreshing, the meat was tender, and even the vegetables were delicious. They say they bring in fresh minari every single day, and you could really tell from the scent — it was incredible..

There were also friendly instructions on how to eat it for the best flavor, so check those out haha.

Master's suyuk and smoky jjukkumi stir-fry

It's called master's onsuyuk (boiled pork), and it's genuinely chewy and delicious with no gamey smell at all! They also gave us honey garlic sauce, which paired perfectly, and the kimchi was great too😋

The jjukkumi stir-fry has that full smoky, spicy flavor! It goes perfectly with the beef mushroom radish rice♥ The portion was so generous it felt like I'd ordered it separately,,

Finishing with rye kalguksu and perilla oil fried rice

Of course you have to finish with the kalguksu and fried rice haha. After eating the shabu-shabu for a while, they added the noodles. When you add the noodles, pour in more broth from the self-serve bar and let it simmer!

The noodles aren't regular wheat noodles but rye kalguksu, so they say it's chewier and easier to digest. The fried rice is made with perilla oil pressed fresh at a local mill! You all know perilla oil is good for you, right?! The sesame seeds pop as you chew, giving it a nice texture and flavor. True to its name, the Hansang-gadeuk Special comes so packed with onsuyuk and jjukkumi that I couldn't finish all the fried rice😂

Review event and caramel popcorn on the way out

There's also a review event, so keep that in mind★ Usually it's one benefit per table, but here it's one benefit per person, which is really nice haha.

They even had floss and mouthwash at the register — such a nice touch✨

Grab some caramel popcorn on your way out~! It tastes as good as movie theater popcorn☺️ Wash it down with some healthy agaricus mushroom tea and it's the perfect way to end the meal~

Why Homilwon suits a group meal with parents

You can get the full course — shabu-shabu, rye kalguksu, perilla oil fried rice, and beef mushroom radish rice — for just ₩12,900 per person, so the value is amazing👍🏻 I'd also recommend the onsuyuk and jjukkumi stir-fry! Next time I want to try the whole octopus and crispy shrimp minari jeon too haha. The staff were also super kind!

With such a healthy menu and such a spacious dining room, I thought this was exactly the kind of restaurant to bring your parents to haha. If you're in Gimpo looking for a place for a group meal or a family outing on a holiday, I'd recommend Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu.
