In short
Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch is a charcoal-grilled pork restaurant in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, sitting between exit 5 of Seonyudo Station and exit 12 of Dangsan Station. On a family dinner with a toddler, the table shared three servings of juljulli teukmokssal (chained pork neck cut), flat bibim-myeon (cold spicy noodles), Mrs. Im Soyoung's doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and Changdong-ne shrimp egg custard, and the staff brought out a toddler plate and fork unprompted. Now that the weather's warming up, it's really become perfect season for outings and picnics. Not too hot, nice and breezy, so you barely sweat and can enjoy a refreshing walk. So I wanted to introduce a restaurant that's great whether you're heading there after a stroll along the Han River with someone special, or going with coworkers for a work dinner. It's a Dangsan Station favorite — Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch!
Here's the full rundown of my visit.
Where is Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch, and what are its hours?
You can get to Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch by getting off at Seonyudo Station exit 5, or by walking up from Dangsan Station exit 12. It's open daily from 15:00 to 24:00, with last order at 23:00.
The exterior, the waiting area and the giant charcoal briquette sculpture

I went with my family for dinner, and the lit-up sign caught my eye from far away. I thought the exterior fit the restaurant's concept nicely. It's clearly a popular spot — there were people waiting when we arrived. If you book through Naver Reservation, you can skip the wait entirely.

Getting closer, I noticed the signature menu items listed right on the sign.

There was a giant charcoal-shaped light fixture outside, and my kid thought it was fascinating.
They've apparently appeared on SBS's Live Today morning show. The waiting zone has this retro charm that brings back a wave of nostalgia. They were even running a soju promotion at 1980s prices.

If you end up waiting, you can pass the time checking out the giant charcoal sculpture and snapping some photos.
There were also lots of flowers and plants around, which really added to the overall atmosphere.
Inside Gamgol Yeontan-jip: retro mood, side dishes and the ICE BOX heotgae tea
Walking inside, that old-school, nostalgic feeling hits you right away. It has a real hole-in-the-wall vibe, but since that's the concept, the space itself is actually clean and comfortable — and honestly, I loved that about it!
Enter your phone number and you'll get a waiting number via KakaoTalk.
Once seated, the kiosk showed instructions on how to grill the meat properly. It's a skill worth knowing, so I watched closely.
There was an event where leaving a photo review gets you 5 free dried filefish snacks — you just scan the QR code to submit it.
Once seated, a setting paper shows what sauces and side dishes come with the meal. The house ssamjang, basil ssamjang, and salt are for dipping the meat, while the sweet potato salad and pickled peppers are best mixed together. Personally, the basil ssamjang was a real surprise hit.

Right next to our table was something labeled 'ICE BOX,' which I found intriguing. Opening it revealed cold heotgae tea inside — nice and refreshing, exactly what I wanted.
Every 25th of the month is 'Hongsidan Day' with 25% off. Joining Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch's fan club gets you access to the benefit.
What amenities does the restroom stock?

Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch has its restroom inside the restaurant itself. I personally prefer places with restrooms indoors, so this checked a box for me.

There were flyer-style restaurant introductions, the kind you'd see a lot in the old days — it had a nice nostalgic touch. And a green wall-mounted cabinet held cute dolls and various characters.
Inside the restroom, they had hand wash and hand cream all stocked. Washing your hands clean and finishing with cream felt just right.
I was pleasantly surprised to see cotton pads, headbands, and even dental floss — things you rarely find elsewhere.
There was also a gargle dispenser. Rinsing after a meal before heading out sounds like it'd leave your mouth feeling fresh!
The restroom had a subtle pleasant scent throughout and felt clean and comfortable.
The storage basket even had disposable sanitary pads. That would definitely bring peace of mind in an unexpected situation.
Gamgol Yeontan-jip menu and prices

I checked out the menu, which also tells the restaurant's history. It's run by a Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef son and his mother, born in 1968. For context, Le Cordon Bleu is the world's number-one culinary school — the same one attended by Ahn Sung-jae, the Michelin chef and judge famous from Culinary Class Wars.

To run through the menu briefly: gochujang charcoal bulgogi (150g) ₩14,900, charcoal salt-grilled pork belly (150g) ₩15,900, juljulli teukmokssal (150g) ₩15,900, seolhwa kkodeulssal (150g) ₩17,900, seasoned kkomjangeo ₩13,900, beolljip gyeopdae ₩12,900, and charcoal-grilled chicken feet ₩13,900. There's such a wide range that both drinkers and non-drinkers alike can find something to enjoy.

The meal dishes include flat bibim-myeon ₩6,900, charcoal fried rice ₩6,900, yeolmu kimchi noodle rolls ₩6,900, Mrs. Im Soyoung's doenjang jjigae ₩6,900, hangover sundubu jjigae ₩6,900, and Changdong-ne shrimp egg custard ₩5,900.
Three servings of juljulli teukmokssal and the noodles and stews we ordered with it
I ordered three servings of juljulli teukmokssal, flat bibim-myeon, Mrs. Im Soyoung's doenjang jjigae, Changdong-ne shrimp egg custard, and a zero-sugar cola!

The sauces and side dishes came out exactly as shown on the setting paper.
The meat arrived glistening in a stone bowl. The restaurant apparently uses only Korean-raised Seonjin pork.

Don't try to put it all on at once — you should place a moderate amount right in the center of the grill where the charcoal heat is strongest.
The grill was pre-greased with pork fat, so the meat didn't stick while cooking.

The lettuce, peppers, garlic, kimchi, scallion salad, and seasoned bean sprouts that came alongside also really whetted the appetite.

Is Gamgol Yeontan-jip okay to visit with a toddler?
Once they noticed we had a child with us, Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch brought out a kids' plate and fork right away! Since I wasn't able to grill well with a little one on my hands, the owner kept checking in periodically to make sure the meat was cooking properly.
Thanks to that, we got to eat it perfectly cooked, never burnt!
As I mentioned earlier, the basil ssamjang was a real standout. It was unexpected, which somehow made it taste even better!

The flat bibim-myeon paired with the meat was pure bliss! Honestly, there's not much more I can say beyond 'it was really delicious.' I don't usually go out of my way to eat this kind of noodle dish, but that day, even after I was full, I kept eating it till the very end.

Just like it said on the wall, eating them together really did make everything taste even better!

I was curious about the dish named after the mother, and the doenjang jjigae absolutely lived up to the hype. It was loaded with crab, clams, tofu, and more, and the broth was outstanding above all. I'm a stew person myself, and I have to give this one a thumbs up!
The egg custard came out next. Overall it's a great dish to share, and the egg and shrimp inside worked really well together.

These are the dried filefish snacks I got from the review event. It had been a while since I'd grilled dried filefish and dipped it in mayo — the perfect palate cleanser.
At the counter, all sorts of retro props and décor catch your eye. Nostalgic tunes from that era played throughout the meal too, and I thought the song selection was excellent!
To cap off the meal, there was plum slush, so we each had one to cool down!
Final thoughts on Gamgol Yeontan-jip near Dangsan Station
Gamgol Yeontan-jip Seonyudo Station Branch, a Dangsan Station favorite, is the kind of restaurant that's great for work dinners and dates alike — full of old-school charm while still being clean, hygienic, and delicious! With seating for up to 16, it also works well for company dinners and group gatherings. This time I visited with my family, but next time there's a work dinner, I'm definitely going to suggest this place!
