How to walk from Seonyudo Station to Gamgol Yeontan-jip after work

I took Line 9 to Seonyudo Station and walked straight to Gamgol Yeontan-jip, which I'd already booked through Naver. Being so close to the station made it easy to get to right after work, and since this place grills meat over real charcoal, I was looking forward to some proper smoky meat for the first time in a while.

Entrance of Gamgol Yeontan-jip, 5 minutes on foot from Seonyudo Station

It felt like less than five minutes on foot from Seonyudo Station to the restaurant. It's oddly tiring to travel far after work just to meet someone, but this place is close to home and close to the station, so the location is just right — good for anyone looking for a meat restaurant near Seonyudo Station or a company dinner spot nearby.

Waiting kiosk placed in front of the restaurant

There was no wait when I arrived, but seeing a waiting kiosk out front made me think this must be a popular spot that usually has lines.

Inside Gamgol Yeontan-jip: atmosphere and seating

Walking in, I felt that cozy, nostalgic vibe unique to charcoal bulgogi restaurants. The dining room was fairly large, and while there were no private rooms, the tables were big with decent spacing, so I could eat comfortably.

I was shown to my seat, and finding my name written on the reservation marker felt like a thoughtful touch.

As soon as I sat down, they brought out the charcoal for the table.

These days there are plenty of sleek, modern BBQ restaurants, but a charcoal bulgogi place like this has its own distinct charm.

Neatly arranged basic table setting

The table setting was neat and tidy right from the start, which put me in a good mood even before the food arrived. It felt like exactly the kind of place to stop by after work for meat and a drink, so as soon as I sat down I started picking out the menu.

What two people ordered at Gamgol Yeontan-jip

On this visit we ordered two servings of gochujang charcoal bulgogi, flat bibim noodles, and diced charcoal fried rice — going all in from the meat to the side dishes.

Rather than sticking to just meat, we decided to properly try the sides too, and I really liked how the combination turned out.

Gochujang charcoal bulgogi: how does it taste?

We started with the gochujang charcoal bulgogi (spicy seasoned pork). As the meat grilled over the charcoal, a subtle smoky aroma rose up — this kind of dish really does feel different from grilling on a home frying pan.

The meat was already seasoned, so it tasted great on its own and paired well with rice too. One of my favorite things about eating meat is that smoky char, and grilling it over charcoal means you can smell it before you even take a bite. Since I arrived hungry after work, just the smell of the meat grilling made me want to eat faster.

Because the gochujang charcoal bulgogi has seasoning, it seemed like it would go well as a drinking snack too. It's good for two people as a dinner, but I imagine it'd be even more fun with a bigger group ordering a variety of meat dishes to share.

If you're looking for a date spot near Seonyudo Station, this kind of charcoal bulgogi place could work well too. BBQ restaurants are easy when it comes to picking a menu, comfortable for sitting and eating together, and this one also seemed like a solid option for a company dinner.

Flat bibim noodles with the bulgogi

Eating only meat can get a bit heavy after a while, so we also ordered the flat bibim noodles (spicy mixed noodles).

The flat noodles came with spicy seasoning, and eating a bite of meat followed by the noodles was a great combination.

Seasoned meat and bibim noodles together is a combo that needs no explanation — if you're ever unsure what side to order with meat, I'd recommend this one 👍

Strands of flat bibim noodles with water dropwort

The wide noodles were well coated in a sweet and tangy sauce, and the water dropwort (minari) added a subtle, appealing aroma. The noodles were delicious on their own, but wrapping a piece of charcoal bulgogi in them added the sweetness of the seasoned meat to the fragrant minari, which also cut through any greasiness.

Diced charcoal fried rice to finish

Lastly, we ordered the diced charcoal fried rice. Even after filling up on meat, I still couldn't resist fried rice, haha. True to its name, the rice came in neat diced bits, which made for a satisfying way to wrap up the meal — after all that charcoal bulgogi, it left us feeling fully satisfied to the end.

From the gochujang charcoal bulgogi to the flat bibim noodles and diced charcoal fried rice, we ate quite well by the end. If two people want to try a good variety of meat and sides, ordering this way seems like a solid approach.

Table setting and cleanliness at Gamgol Yeontan-jip

Gamgol Yeontan-jip also had a fairly neat table setup — paper cups were laid out tidily, and the spoons and chopsticks were kept in a sterilizer, which I appreciated for hygiene. BBQ restaurants are places many people share, so these details tend to stand out, and overall this place felt well managed and clean.

Dried herring from the review event grilled over the charcoal

Review-event jwipo and plum slush

After finishing the meal, I also took part in the Naver review event. Writing a Naver review gets you a piece of dried herring (jwipo), so I got one as a kind of dessert and grilled it over the charcoal. Grilling dried herring over charcoal after eating meat was oddly fun, and it felt like a proper way to enjoy this charcoal restaurant right to the end.

On my way out after paying, I also grabbed a plum slush, which was a sweet, cool way to cleanse the palate after all that meat. With that, I finished up thoroughly satisfied and headed home via Seonyudo Station.
