Blueberry yogurt at a Namyangju river café: Waltz and Dr. Mahn

On the way home from Gapyeong glamping, it felt like a waste to just drive straight past Namyangju, haha. You know that feeling on a drive when you just want to stop for a coffee break? This time I stopped at Waltz and Dr. Mahn, right on the Bukhan River.

It looked pretty in photos, but seeing it in person made me just stare quietly out the window for a while. The atmosphere was unique too, like an old European café — a Bukhan River café I won't forget.

It's a great drive course to combine with Dumulmeori and Water Garden, so it seems like a decent stop for anyone looking for a Dumulmeori café too.

After parking and looking at the building, the first impression was already different from your typical large café.

The reddish building with green ivy climbing over it felt like stumbling on an old restaurant while traveling abroad. Flowers and trees sit naturally in front of the building too, so photos come out looking really nice. Rather than the flashy feel of a newly built café, this place had the atmosphere of accumulated time.

Walking inside, the wood-finished space and antique furniture caught my eye first.

White tablecloths, round-backed chairs, old-feeling lighting, and various paintings on the walls all made for a classic overall look. On one side, coffee-related goods were displayed too, and it was fun browsing the different coffee cups and props.

When I visited, it was so busy that empty seats were hard to find. After a short wait, I got lucky and landed a seat facing the Bukhan River — and the moment I sat down, I understood why people come here.

The scenery outside the window was really like a painting.

With mountains stretching long beyond the blue Bukhan River and a blue sky on top of that, it felt less like the outskirts of Seoul and more like an actual trip destination. I sat there spacing out for a while looking at the river through the curtains. Even after taking in plenty of nature at the Gapyeong glamping site, the view here felt like a whole different mood. If you're looking for a Bukhan River café with a good view, this one might stick in your memory for the scenery alone.

What we ordered at Waltz and Dr. Mahn was 1 iced americano and 1 blueberry yogurt.

The blueberry yogurt looked pretty generous even in photos. With deep purple blueberries, thick-looking yogurt, and nuts on top, it felt more like a solid dessert than a light one. The cool, tangy blueberries paired well with the soft yogurt, and each crunch of nuts added a nutty note.

The iced americano went well with the sweet dessert. Sipping coffee slowly while looking out at the Bukhan River made even my usual coffee feel a bit more leisurely.

The coffee museum inside Waltz and Dr. Mahn

Waltz and Dr. Mahn isn't just a café — there's a coffee museum attached as well.

There are so many coffee-related exhibits and props inside the café that it feels like a shame to just drink and leave. If you have some time, it's worth walking through the coffee museum too. Especially if you're driving out for a Dumulmeori café, you can pair Dumulmeori and the Bukhan River view with the coffee space into one course.

The receipt review gift: a shopping bag of coffee

Near the counter, I noticed they were running a receipt review event too.

I left a review too and got a shopping bag with coffee inside as a gift. A small event, but it made even the drive home feel a little brighter.

Is Waltz and Dr. Mahn worth the drive? Final verdict

It was a place I stumbled onto by chance after wrapping up Gapyeong glamping, but it ended up being one of the most memorable spots from that drive.

The view straight onto the Bukhan River was great, but the red-brick building and the wood-filled interior really set a different mood from other cafés. Sitting by the window looking out at the mountains and the river, I genuinely felt like I was sitting in some café abroad.

Now I get why it's so busy! If you're looking for a Bukhan River café with atmosphere in Namyangju, or a Dumulmeori café to stop by while driving, Waltz and Dr. Mahn is worth a visit. Next time I'd like to come with a bit more time to spare and slowly go through the coffee museum too.
