The exterior of the shop .𖥔 ݁ ˖๋ ࣭ * the entrance is wheelchair accessible

To the left of the entrance there's a waiting area and a 'memory shot' photo corner! It's a free instant black-and-white photo booth — you can stick your photo on the wall or take it home to keep. Perfect for making memories with family 🤍

At Dongchundang Shabu Kalguksu you can also buy cordyceps mushroom / lion's mane mushroom for ₩8,000. Takeaway packs are available by portion — for 2, 3, or 4 people.

A 140-pyeong dining hall, rental from 80 guests, and baby-friendly extras
The interior ⊹ ࣪ ˖ it's a massive 140-pyeong space and ⭐️ the whole restaurant can be rented out too (ㄴ> minimum 80 people). * Seating is wheelchair accessible.

Every table has hair ties so you can tie your hair up neatly before diving in ◝✩ 𐩢𐩺 there are also little placemat sheets for utensils so the table stays clean while you eat.

Baby chairs and baby tableware are also on hand, so this place seems great to visit with little ones too.

Chilled water bottle, sanitized utensils and the pre-meal bibimbap
⭐️ Nice touch 1. They fill the water bottle with ice! Pour in the bottled water on the table and you get refreshingly cold water to clear your palate before the meal. (Of course, you can also ask for warm water if you'd prefer.)
⭐️ Nice touch 2. They sanitize the spoon-and-chopstick set in hot water! Seeing how much they care about hygiene really showed how much they think of their guests — such a touching detail 🫶

And here comes the full spread ψ(๑ꔷ؎ꔷ๑ꕤ
⭐️ Nice touch 3. Pre-meal bibimbap is served!

The well-fermented, sweet-and-sour yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) with the pop of barley grains is honestly a work of art ✨

The portion of meat and vegetables is really generous..🩷

Self-bar broth refills and dipping sauces: how to eat it
At the self-serve bar you can refill either spicy or clear broth, and enjoy the shabu shabu with chili sauce or a wasabi-soy sauce combo.

If you want it spicier, there's also chili paste (dadaegi) at the self-bar!
Meat >>> wasabi-soy sauce / Vegetables >>> chili sauce. Take note, everyone — dip like this!!💯
With minari, bok choy and mung bean sprouts among the vegetables, you get the fragrant minari aroma plus great texture. There are little dumpling rice balls too — perfect topped with a cheongyang chili.
Unlimited free makgeolli, ladled from a kettle like an old tavern
⭐️ Nice touch 4. Unlimited makgeolli! (free)

Isn't the makgeolli kettle just so cute, it really gives off that old tavern vibe. My dad raved that the makgeolli here was genuinely delicious and secretly drank a whole kettle by himself 🤫
Mugwort kalguksu, Eonyang-style bassak bulgogi and the fried rice finish
Once we'd eaten a good amount, in went the kalguksu (knife-cut noodles). Dongchundang's kalguksu is made with mugwort, so the color is different from a regular kalguksu shop right from the start 💚

This place is a kimchi hotspot too. The freshly made napa cabbage geotjeori (fresh-cut kimchi) is spicy in the best way, making it easy to eat unlimited kalguksu — layer on the Eonyang-style bassak bulgogi and the umami doubles💞
Dongchundang's Eonyang-style bulgogi is grilled bassak (crispy-charred) on a grill grate over charcoal, so the fat renders out and it's light and clean rather than greasy.
My dad was like haha, recommending the combo of bulgogi + cheongyang chili + cabbage geotjeori, and told me to take a photo of it,,
Once you've finished the kalguksu, just call over a staff member for fried rice haha. With a splash of the shabu broth mixed in, the fried rice comes out just wet enough, with the occasional crunchy bite of minari — really good.
After the meal: ice cream, cordyceps tea, black sesame soy milk and popcorn
⭐️ Nice touch 5. Excellent post-meal ice cream service! The FRENCH VANILLA is genuinely delicious ㅠ it's a butter + vanilla flavor that wraps up the meal on a happy note.. and it doesn't end here.

To the right of the entrance is my absolute favorite zone — why, let me explain below.

⭐️ Nice touch 6. Cordyceps tea and black sesame soy milk provided! See the 70-degree mark on the black sesame soy milk?! Both are warm, so they're great to drink before the meal too, and equally good as a comforting finish afterward.
ㄴ> Here's what cordyceps tea is good for 🫖 one-line summary: they say it's good for immunity and respiratory health.

⭐️ Nice touch 7. Popcorn and old-school snacks provided! The popcorn tastes like caramel popcorn — the kind kids would love.
And next to the popcorn there's the makgeolli tub — just scoop out as much as you like haha.
