Kid-friendly Osan sushi restaurant with an egg rice bowl: Special

In short

Special Sushi Osan Branch is a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant on the second floor along Seongho-daero in Osan, Gyeonggi. On a dinner visit with a friend and a four-year-old, the wait was 15 minutes before counter seats opened up, and the table covered flounder, yukhoe (raw beef) sushi and fried shrimp plus an egg rice bowl for the child, with basic plates at 1,890 won each and about 30,000 won for two people eating their fill. Special Sushi Osan Branch has a wait even at dinner, so allow extra time.

A plate of conveyor-belt sushi at Special Sushi Osan Branch

Special Sushi is right in front of my office haha. It opened around early this year (I think?), and the value for money is so good I've been there quite a few times.

Why dinner at Special Sushi Osan Branch after daycare pickup

My husband was working late today, ugh, so I had to handle childcare alone. Luckily Jisoong was suddenly craving Special Sushi so~ much, so right after pickup we dashed over together ♡ hehe. Jisoong said she was really craving flounder fin today, so off we went for flounder.

Entrance of Special Sushi Osan Branch on the 2nd floor

It's on the 2nd floor!! I've been for lunch a few times before, but this was my first time going for dinner.

How long is the dinner wait at Special Sushi Osan Branch?

Even for lunch you basically have to sprint over, so I didn't expect a wait at dinner too. We put our name in as soon as we arrived — number 2. (Surely we'll get in soon...?) I thought, but...

Waiting outside the restaurant for the turn to be called

We waited... quite a while... popular at both lunch and dinner, what is this... shocking. Waited about 15 minutes... with a kid in tow, waiting is pretty... rough... ㅜ Sniffle. I'll admit it's earned its rep as a top sushi spot near Osan Station 👍

Counter seats vs group seating at dinner

Finally our turn came ㅜㅜㅜ I wanted to sit at the inner group table, but at dinner only some of those seats are usable. At lunch you can use all the seating.

Layout of the inner group seating and counter seats

True to conveyor-belt sushi form, it's mostly counter seats. Honestly the group seating attached to the counter would be more comfortable with a kid... a bit of a shame. Still, my kid is four, so she sits fine at regular seats too.

Jangguk broth served as a default side

As soon as we sat down they gave us jangguk (savory broth), and this stuff is genuinely delicious. Most people don't really drink it, but Jisoong and I... refill it like crazy. (For reference, my kid keeps asking for more too.)

A lineup of various conveyor-belt sushi types

What 1,890 won a plate gets you, from salmon to flounder

Behold... the gorgeous lineup. You have to keep your eyes rolling around, nonstop. Can't let anyone steal it — my sushi, my sushi!!

"Okay, let's start safe with salmon..." and the moment I said it, Jisoong had already grabbed a salmon sushi and set it in front of me...

Jisoong is faster than anyone else... just fast, period. (For reference, when we go to a buffet with Jisoong... it's a total jackpot. She just grabs everything.)

Flounder sushi plate priced at ₩1,890

Okay, flounder goes in my mouth and I quickly grab the next one. (Basic plates here are ₩1,890 — such great value!!)

Picking a sushi plate off the conveyor belt

Jisoong's hands get urgent... the flounder fin she wanted has sold out... but she has a favorite backup. It's...

The friend's favorite sushi plate
Sushi with a chewy and crunchy texture

Turns out Jisoong loves this one the most. I actually don't like tuna-type stuff so I wasn't going to eat it, but Jisoong has this habit where if something is good she absolutely, definitely makes you eat it too haha (no skipping allowed). But it's really... good. It doesn't taste like tuna at all — super chewy and crunchy, seriously... 👍 (Jisoong ate it three times on her own.)

The blessing of sushi just keeps coming, truly... The yukhoe (raw beef) sushi is legit too... hehe (Jisoong, that was good, right?)

The kids' egg rice bowl, no pickled radish or kimchi

Oops... everyone, I got so caught up in sushi I almost forgot I have a kid with me ㅜ What should you feed a little one at a sushi restaurant? Udon vs. egg rice bowl.

Looking at the menu while deciding on the kids' dish

I went with the egg rice bowl haha. But without kimchi or pickled radish ㅋ. The staff double-checked with me.

Staff: If we skip the pickled radish and kimchi, you'll just have the rice and seaweed... / Me: Yes, that's fine — my kid doesn't like them.

It's super hot, so be careful, y'all. Honestly Jisoong liked this more than the kid did. She said it was mild and delicious ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ and wanted to order another.

Mini fried shrimp to finish the meal

For the finish, fried food seemed right! Clean and crispy palate cleanser, done -☆ They're mini shrimp, and being small somehow makes them even more savory haha.

30,000 won for two: is Special Sushi Osan Branch worth it?

Conveyor-belt sushi, yum yum, chomp chomp haha. When it comes to great value sushi, Special Sushi is still the one. The two of us ate our fill and it came to about ₩30,000. Feels like a great spot to come to with a friend! Recommending this as a must-try sushi place near Osan.
