Mother-daughter weekday hanok course meal in Pyeongtaek: Suksudaega

In short

Suksudaega is a hanok-style private-room Korean restaurant on Ganbyeon-ro in Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. Visiting alone with her mom on a weekday, the writer ordered one Wang Galbijjim (braised beef short rib) set and one Beopseongpo Boribulbi (dried yellow croaker) set, each starting with sweet pumpkin porridge and running through salad, shrimp-pine nut salad, royal japchae, tteokgalbi, and yukhoe before the hot-pot rice and mains arrived. A formal, well-set Korean course spot that felt just right for family gatherings, meet-the-parents dinners, or business entertaining.

The hanok exterior and private-room vibe

Here's what Suksudaega looks like from outside ⁺˚⋆。°✩₊ You walk in through the gate in the first photo, and once inside there's a little pavilion like in the fourth photo — with all the trees around it stays nice and shady, and it seemed like a great spot to sit and rest for a bit :)

There's also a water wheel garden feature tucked in one corner of the yard, which makes the whole hanok exterior feel even more elegant 🤍

Here's the interior. All the tables are set up as private rooms, ranging from 4-seaters to large group tables, so it's a great atmosphere for bringing your parents or hosting all kinds of gatherings.

What we ordered

1. Wang Galbijjim set, 1 serving — ₩39,000 2. Beopseongpo Boribulbi set, 1 serving — ₩39,000

They said we could order one of each — the galbijjim set and the boribulbi set — so that's what we did 𑣲₍ ᐢ. .ᐢ₎ This was a weekday visit haha.

Trying the course, dish by dish

The moment we walked in, they gave us warm hand towels — something you rarely see at restaurants these days?! It felt like they were paying attention to every little detail from the very first moment, and I felt taken care of before the meal even started ⊹˚. ♡

The pumpkin porridge's thickness — pass 💯

Course-style Korean set meal table spread

It all comes out as a course like this, let me walk you through each one haha.

Salad with lotus root and tomato

The salad has lotus root, tomato, and sprouts in it, and the dressing is amazing — tastes like a sesame + black sesame dressing, totally my style ♡𓐍𓏸

This is the shrimp-pine nut salad. Wrapped with potato chips, tomato, and cucumber, it really wakes up your appetite.

Royal bulgogi cold salad topped with fried burdock root
Bulgogi cold salad plate with mung bean sprouts

The royal bulgogi cold salad comes with crispy fried burdock root on top, and with the mung bean sprouts added it was crunchy and overall really clean-tasting.

Royal japchae served in a warm dish
Royal japchae with burdock root

The royal japchae (glass noodles) wasn't oily or heavy at all — it was packed with the clean, nutty flavor of burdock root, seriously savory ༘*

The dishes were so cute, and they were even warm, which I loved.

The spicy squid salad wrapped in perilla leaves ᰔᩚ♡ᰔᩚ — full of tangy sauce and the fragrance of perilla leaves.

A special jeon (Korean pan-fried dish) — perilla leaf pancake eaten together with well-grilled mushrooms ⊹ ࣪ ˖

And the tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) — they grill it almost like frying, and the juices inside are seriously no joke.

I even took a video to show you..!! Hope it came through okay..!! Writing this post now and my mouth is watering 😂

The yukhoe (beef tartare) came out cut into perfect bite-sized pieces, so I just popped them in one at a time — not greasy at all, and the seasoning was just right.

The mains — Wang Galbijjim, Boribulbi, and hot-pot rice

And now, today's main dishes, drumroll..!! The rice came in a hot stone pot, which made it even better 💛

Main dishes: Wang Galbijjim and hot-pot rice
One serving of Wang Galbijjim with three rib bones

One serving of the braised ribs comes with three whole big rib bones, and the meat is chunky too — the soy sauce seasoning wasn't too salty, just the right amount of sweet and savory. So good ㅠ The moment I tasted it I thought, oh this is definitely a rice-mixing situation.

I had the camera in one hand and tongs in the other, tried pulling the meat off the bone, and it came off so easily. So good 🩷

And the boribulbi (dried yellow croaker) is seriously huge.. ⭐️ This one you have to eat on top of the crispy rice broth from the hot-pot rice.

The doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) had big chunks of tofu and potato in it, savory and comforting.

Near the end of the meal they even brought out plum tea, hehe — with pine nuts floating on top, it added a nice richness and made the tea feel even more upscale ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

Wine and the Dom Pérignon price

There was wine lined up right from the entrance, so of course I was curious

Wine display at the entrance
Wine display shelf with the 2017 Dom Pérignon

They're selling a 2017 Dom Pérignon, 750ml, for a whopping ₩330,000!! ⭐️⭐️ Plus, if you leave a receipt review, you can get a sparkling wine worth about ₩20,000 ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ

Who is this place good for?

This was a date with just me and my mom, and honestly everything — the staff's kindness, the service, the flavor of every single dish — was so satisfying at Suksudaega in Pyeongtaek.

  • ✔️ Important business meetings and entertaining
  • ✔️ Family gatherings (70th, 80th birthdays, etc.)
  • ✔️ Meet-the-parents dinners, and more!

If you're looking for a formal, well-put-together Korean course restaurant, I highly recommend this one ✨
