Paju ssambap restaurant set for two with pumpkin porridge: Simhaksan

In short

Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a ssambap (lettuce-wrap rice) restaurant on Dolgoji-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi. Arriving outside peak hours, I ordered the deuljeongsik set for two at 20,000 won per person, which brought pumpkin porridge, a stone-pot rice bowl for each person, pork and squid stir-fries, and self-serve wrap greens. Portions of rice were generous and the banchan seasoning stayed mild, making Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap an easy choice for a family meal.

What kind of restaurant is Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap?

Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a ssambap (lettuce-wrap rice) restaurant at 55-10 Dolgoji-gil, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. There's always one ssambap place that crosses my mind now and then — when I'm craving a generous, hearty spread, Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is naturally the one I think of.

It's also a great pick for a filling meal after shopping at the Paju Outlets, so if you're looking for ssambap near the Paju Outlets, this place fits well. Deulkkot Ssambap, near Simhaksan mountain, is somewhere I've dropped by a few times before.

Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap gets busy, so there's a waiting area, plus space suited for group visits. Even though I came outside meal times, customers kept streaming in — this really is a Paju favorite that never seems to slow down.

The self-serve bar: wrap greens and banchan

Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap, a favorite for ssambap near the Paju Outlets, is a place I love for how fresh and generous the wrap greens are. There's also a wide variety of banchan (side dishes) set out generously, so I could grab extra helpings without any hesitation.

The self-serve corner also has a microwave for babies and even senbei, an old-school cracker, which was nice to snack on before or after the meal. Once you order, you just head to the self-serve corner and pick whichever wrap greens you like.

After a short wait, the table filled up with banchan, and honestly just looking at it lifted my mood. It was fun tasting seasonal greens and various side dishes one by one. Even after not visiting for a while, the neat, generous spread felt just as welcoming as ever.

The doenjang (soybean paste) stew is simmered right at the table, which somehow makes it taste even better. It's refillable too, so anyone who wants more can just order it again.

From pumpkin porridge to a stone-pot rice bowl for one

The deuljeongsik set starts with pumpkin porridge first. It was just sweet enough — really nice to eat.

One reason I love Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap: the generous stone-pot rice!

Generous individual-portion stone-pot rice

Plenty of places serve stone-pot rice split between two people, and even individual portions are often skimpy elsewhere, but here the rice is both delicious and generous — as a nurungji (scorched rice) lover, this made my day. It was fun working through the warm rice and the nurungji together.

Fresh vegetables are really the heart of any ssambap restaurant. There was plenty of lettuce and perilla leaves, plus several kinds of wrap greens to pick according to taste.

The deuljeongsik mains: pork stir-fry and squid stir-fry

The deuljeongsik set's main dishes are squid stir-fry and pork stir-fry.

Piling pork stir-fry on rice with a little ssamjang and wrapping it all up in a big bite made for a hearty meal that wasn't overly seasoned.

The deuljeongsik set comes with a wide range of side dishes to go with the mains, so a bowl of rice disappeared fast. Nothing was too salty, which should suit older palates well, and every banchan had that homemade touch, making the whole meal feel as comfortable as home cooking. There's real enjoyment in picking through everything a bit at a time, and I think a family visit would be even more satisfying.

These days I often want to eat plenty of vegetables even with just one meal, and this Simhaksan Korean restaurant is exactly the kind of place for those days.

Enjoying the squid stir-fry together with the wraps and seasonal greens felt satisfying without being heavy, and the fullness lasted well after the meal. It's a great stop before or after a walk around Simhaksan, and worth remembering when you're looking for somewhere to eat after shopping at the nearby Paju Premium Outlets. If you want a generous, neatly arranged spread, I recommend Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap as a Paju favorite.

Just a heads-up — there's a lottery event for writing a Naver review.

A place where even after a while, I always come away having eaten a satisfying, delicious spread!! I even finished it off properly with dessert.

I think Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a place I'll think of again the next time I head out toward Simhaksan.
