There's a place I always visit whenever I come to Busan Station. I headed straight to Yeongdong Milmyeon & Dwaeji Gukbap, where you can get both Busan Station milmyeon and dwaeji gukbap in one spot. Dwaeji gukbap (pork soup) is the signature dish my kids and I love, and out of all the places, Yeongdong Milmyeon & Dwaeji Gukbap is our favorite. And once again, here we are.

Weekend lunch wait line outside the restaurant

How long is the weekend lunch wait, and what is the dining room like?

When I visited Yeongdong Milmyeon & Dwaeji Gukbap right at weekend lunchtime, there was a short line out front. But the wait wasn't long, so we got seated pretty quickly. Once inside, the hall was bigger and more pleasant than I expected. Table spacing was generous, and somehow the sight of the place full of families made it feel even more trustworthy.

The kids and I each ordered a bowl of dwaeji gukbap.

A bowl of ordered dwaeji gukbap

There's zero gamey smell and it's a clean, light style, so the kids ate it up happily without any hesitation. Loaded with plenty of fresh chives, one bowl was filling enough to leave us all satisfied.

The mild dwaeji gukbap broth the kids finished to the last spoon

The dwaeji gukbap at Yeongdong Milmyeon & Dwaeji Gukbap has absolutely none of that gamey smell typical of Busan-style pork soup — it's a clean, light style. It's neither too heavy nor greasy, so the kids ate it happily without any pushback. My kids are usually good with soupy dishes, but now they load in plenty of fresh chives themselves and finish the broth down to the last drop. That moment proved just how good this place's gukbap really is.

The milky broth is packed full of tender meat.

How to add Korean chives and season the broth, step by step

Adding plenty of chives really brings up the savory depth of the broth. Take your first spoonful of just the broth to check the seasoning, then add a touch of salt or salted shrimp to taste — that way you can fine-tune it exactly to your liking.
