In short
Premium Gyukatsu Gyudo Mapo Gongdeok Main Branch is a premium gyukatsu and yakiniku restaurant in the underground shopping arcade connected directly to Exits 1 and 2 of Mapo Station in Seoul. Sitting at the counter seats with the kids, we ordered the smoked gyukatsu set, niku mabushi (beef rice bowl) and kids donkatsu, chose barley tea as the pot rice broth and finished with scorched rice tea. The kids menu comes with organic juice, rice refills are free and the building has parking, so Gyudo Mapo Gongdeok is a safe bet for a family meal.

A restaurant near Mapo/Gongdeok Station

Today I'm sharing an honest review of Gyudo, a premium gyukatsu and yakiniku restaurant that's become quite well known in Mapo!
Gyudo's slogan is "setting the standard for gyukatsu" — drawing on the meaning of the kitsune (fox), a symbol of abundance and agriculture in Japanese tradition, the brand serves carefully cooked fresh rice, premium gyukatsu, and its own deep philosophy.
Gyudo operates only company-owned stores rather than franchises, to protect quality and exclusivity. It's been buzzing on social media and has waiting lines at both lunch and dinner, so I went in with high expectations.

Inside Gyudo Mapo Gongdeok: counter seats and atmosphere
Even though Gyudo Mapo Gongdeok Main Branch is in an underground shopping arcade, the entrance already felt clean and upscale. It has a quiet, cozy atmosphere perfect for a date, but I also think it works great for a family meal.
Above all, the staff were so friendly that I felt well taken care of the moment I walked in. There's a coat closet inside for extra comfort! We sat at the counter seats the kids wanted :)

The three dishes we ordered at Gyudo
We chose the smoked gyukatsu set, niku mabushi (beef rice bowl), and kids donkatsu. There's such a wide variety of cutlet and beef dishes, and everything at the surrounding tables looked delicious, so I spent a long time studying the menu before deciding!
Smoked gyukatsu set
The moment the smoked gyukatsu set landed on the table, a gentle smoky aroma immediately sharpened my appetite. It comes with a mini brazier so you can cook it yourself to your preferred doneness.
Grilling it piece by piece meant I could enjoy warm, tender meat right until the last bite — so satisfying. Crispy outside, juicy inside, it really melted in my mouth.

Niku mabushi (beef rice bowl)
Niku mabushi was personally my favorite dish at Premium Gyukatsu Gyudo near Mapo Station! The meat was so tender, and the seasoning wasn't salty at all — just the right sweet-savory balance, perfect for eating with the kids.
The portion of meat was huge — even after sharing with the kids and my husband, there was plenty left. If you're eating it alone, there's enough meat to pair with every last bite of the pot rice.
For those who like the sauce a bit stronger, extra sauce is served on the side. It was great drizzled lightly into the rice bowl, but also amazing dipped with other cutlets or drizzled over the salad.

Kids donkatsu with organic juice
Gyudo has a well put-together dedicated kids' menu, which is a huge plus for families. It was crispy but with tender meat, and my kid ate it up happily.
The kids' menu comes with an organic drink — not the usual Pororo juice but real organic juice, which won over the parents too.

Rice refills and pot rice broth choices: barley tea, tonkotsu or bonito
This Mapo restaurant serves its main dishes alongside neat side dishes, salad, and freshly cooked pot rice — and rice refills are a great bonus!
What surprised me most was that you can choose the liquid poured into the pot rice — barley tea, tonkotsu broth, or bonito broth. I was curious about the other broths, but as a first-timer I went with the safest option, barley tea, and the nutty scorched rice tea it made was outstanding.
There were also flakes served to sprinkle over the scorched rice, which turned out to be a real treat! Next time, I definitely want to try the tonkotsu or bonito broths I was curious about.

Is Gyudo Mapo Gongdeok a good gyukatsu restaurant to visit with kids?
From the taste of the food to the upscale atmosphere, the neatly arranged dishes, the parking convenience, and the friendliness — this Mapo gyukatsu spot, Gyudo, didn't miss a beat!
If you want a hearty, impressive meal, or you're looking for a can't-fail date or family dinner spot near Mapo Station, I highly recommend giving it a visit.
