Seongsu fusion Korean restaurant with ssamjang steak: Out of Order

In short

Out of Order is a fusion Korean dining restaurant on Achasan-ro 13-gil near Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul. Over a dinner booking the writer ordered the scallion tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) risotto at 21,000 won and the dinner-only ssamjang aioli steak at 32,000 won, and both worked well: the risotto kept a chewy barley texture and the flat iron steak came with baek-kimchi (white kimchi). With an open kitchen, bar seats and group tables, Out of Order is a 100% return visit for blind dates or wedding-invitation get-togethers.

Why Out of Order, a fusion Korean restaurant near Seongsu Station?

I had a dinner plan in Seongsu and was looking around for where to go when I found Out of Order! I wanted to go somewhere a bit different from your average Western restaurant, and the moment I saw the menu full of fusion dishes using Korean ingredients, I knew this was the place haha.

It's pretty close to Seongsu Station, and more than anything, the food isn't your everyday stuff, so it seemed like a great spot for a date or a blind date. Actual reviews mention it a lot as a place for blind dates or wedding-invite gatherings too. When we actually went, someone at another table was on a blind date and my ears perked right up haha.

We ordered two dishes: the scallion tteokgalbi risotto for ₩21,000, and the dinner-only ssamjang aioli steak for ₩32,000!

First up, the scallion tteokgalbi risotto! Personally, out of the two dishes, this was more my style lol.

Scallion risotto topped with chunky tteokgalbi

The tteokgalbi sits on top of the risotto and it's chunky enough to be more filling than expected, and since the risotto uses scallions, it felt totally different from a regular cream risotto. Eating just the meat could get a bit heavy, but the scallion aroma cuts through the richness, so I kept going back for more.

I especially liked that it had barley in it, which gave it a livelier texture than regular rice risotto. It really felt like a risotto made with Korean ingredients — the dish where Out of Order's concept came through the most!

Second was the dinner-only ssamjang aioli steak. It's skirt steak that's sous vide then grilled over wood fire, served with ssamjang (Korean seasoned soybean paste) aioli, charred vegetables, and baek-kimchi (white kimchi).

When I heard 'ssamjang on steak,' I honestly couldn't imagine the flavor at first, but the combo worked better than I expected. The meat was tender, with a subtle smoky char on the outside, and the ssamjang aioli made it taste much nuttier and more Korean than a typical steak sauce. Eating it with the baek-kimchi in between bites cleaned up my palate, so I never got tired of it. (The baek-kimchi that came with it was seriously so good ㅠㅠㅠ)

Two plates of fusion Korean dishes at Out of Order

What I liked about Out of Order was that it isn't just slapping the 'fusion Korean' label on things — a lot of the menu takes familiar ingredients and reworks them in a completely different way. Combos like tteokgalbi + risotto, or ssamjang + steak, make you curious just from the name alone, so it seems like a great place to go with a few people and order a bunch of things to share!

Inside Out of Order: interior and seating

Interior of Out of Order with soft lighting and plants

The moment I walked in, I noticed the inside was bigger and had a better atmosphere than I expected! The lighting is soft overall and there are plants scattered around, giving it a chic feel without being overly formal. It's an open kitchen so you can watch the cooking, and there are bar seats too, so it seems like a great spot for two people.

It seems especially good if you're looking for a place that's not too loud but still has some atmosphere, like for a blind date!! The vibe suits not just dates but also friend gatherings or wedding-invite meetups where several people show up. There really are various seating options — hall tables, bar tables, and group seating. A Seongsu Station restaurant that nails the atmosphere too — Out of Order is seriously the best…

And if you're planning a group gathering, it's a plus that private rental is available. The space itself is clean and the food plating is pretty, so it seems well suited to occasions where you want to add a bit of atmosphere, like birthday parties, company gatherings, or various group events.

If you want to try something a bit different from the usual pasta or meat places common in Seongsu, or you're looking for a stylish restaurant that's good for a blind date or date gathering, I recommend Out of Order, a Seongsu Station restaurant :) Next time I want to try the grilled napa cabbage and the tricolor crispy lasagna too!!
