In short

Songtan Jindaegwang Budae Jjigae Seongsu Branch is a Korean restaurant near Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul. At a weekend lunch, we had budae jjigae for two with ramen noodles, unlimited rice, green onion kimchi, slushies, and yogurt. Verdict: a filling, easy-to-revisit Seongsu lunch spot.

Songtan Jindaegwang Budae Jjigae Seongsu Branch, right by Seongsu Station Exit 1

After getting a massage in Seongsu recently, I was wondering, “What should I have for lunch?” and found this place! I went to Jindaegwang Songtan Budae Jjigae, just perfect for a good Seongsu lunch 🍲 For some reason, budae jjigae (army stew) feels even tastier when you have it for lunch rather than dinner… is it just me? Hahaha.

This is Songtan Jindaegwang Budae Jjigae Seongsu Branch, about a three-minute walk from Seongsu Station Exit 1…? It is seriously right there. You can park in front of the building, but not if it is fullㅠㅠ

As soon as you come out of Seongsu Station Exit 1, there is a brown brick building straight ahead. Turn right and you will find the entrance.

A restaurant principle: never cut back on the sausages

Even if the restaurant goes under,,, they will never, ever,, cut back on the sausages,,, I love that restaurant principle haha.

Songtan has a U.S. military base and all, you know. So the interior has exactly that kind of feel.

The restaurant was way bigger than I expected. The tables were spacious too, so it did not feel overly cramped, which I liked.

We visited for weekend lunch, and there were quite a lot of people. I heard weekday lunches are really busy! If weekends are this busy too,,,!

Ordering budae jjigae for two with ramen noodles

Sorry!! The menu was ordered on a tablet, so I could not photograph itㅠㅠ There were also fried sundae (Korean blood sausage) and one other item, but both were sold out,,, We ordered Jindaegwang budae jjigae for two for ₩26,000, added ramen noodles for ₩2,000, and added drinks for ₩2,000!

Then suddenly, the budae jjigae and a stopwatch appeared..! They set the timer for five minutes, then opened the lid when it went off.

And the side dishes! That pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi) is something else—so delicious.

Everything was suddenly set out in a flash. Everyone gets one bowl of rice as standard, and the rice is unlimited.

There is a self-service bar like this, so you can take as many side dishes as you want.

The rice cooker beside it! You can scoop up as much as you want here. I got a refill too.

The lid came off as soon as the time was up..! The look of it was insaneㅠㅠㅠ They gently dissolved the minced garlic on top into the broth and gave it a stir.

It even says on his T-shirt: “Even if the restaurant goes under, we will never reduce the sausages.”

For real. There were SO many sausages. It seemed to have every kind of sausage that goes into budae jjigae, too.

I piled it onto my little plate and ate it with rice,

Haha, the ramen noodles suddenly make an appearance. We each served ourselves once, then added the ramen noodles. Not adding ramen noodles to budae jjigae? I think that is a sin.

I slurped it up with the green onion kimchi. Honestly,, when I am eating something really delicious,,, I cannot take photos very well. I am too focused on eating haha.

So I only got a photo after we had eaten it all,,, Can you see how deep the broth was in that ladle? We ate it like we were about to drill through the bottom of the pot,,, The person I went with refilled their rice a whopping three times, you know? Then, of course, they said their stomach hurt and even took digestive medicine haha. Who told you to eat like that?!

Finishing with slushies and yogurt

The amazing thing here is that they have slushies, and yogurt too. The fact that I am still not craving coffee must mean I am young, haha.

There were seriously loads of sausages, so every bit—from the broth to the ingredients—was properly satisfying, and the unlimited refills made it great value too haha. Especially with the green onion kimchi, it was sneakily addictive and made me keep scooping up rice,, They even have slushies and yogurt to finish, so we left happily full 🤍 It is right by Seongsu Station, so it is easy to get to; I recommend it to anyone looking for a good Seongsu lunch spot! Would I revisit? Of course, yes!
