Men's cut with 12mm two-block sides at Owlly, a Yeoksam hair salon

Today's post is about a clean, pretty cut I got after a long while, at a Yeoksam hair salon: Owlly Yeoksam Branch.

I'd been putting off a haircut because I was busy, but suddenly had some free time, so I booked with designer Jaewoon and went.

Owlly Yeoksam Branch is a hair salon in Yeoksam, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 2nd floor of 7 Yeoksam-ro 33-gil. It's a 5-minute walk from Exit 1 of Yeoksam Station (Line 2), with free parking and Naver Reservations available.

Finding Owlly: the Nolbu Budae-jjigae sign is the landmark

On the 1st floor there's a bright red sign for Nolbu Budae-jjigae, which makes the building easy to spot.

You can also see signage explaining that Epl Hair has become Owlly at this Yeoksam hair salon. The shop is on the 2nd floor, but there's an elevator, so it's convenient.

Inside Owlly: locker room and black-toned shampoo area

Owlly Yeoksam Branch has the entire 2nd floor to itself, so the salon appears right as you step off the elevator.

Further inside there's a separate locker room for storing your belongings, and a seating area for companions or waiting.

The bright interior makes it easy to check your hair, while the shampoo room is done in a comfortable black tone that's easy on the eyes.

Even though we deliberately visited before evening rush hour on a weekday, there were quite a few people there.

The consultation: turning flyaway sides into a 12mm two-block

After being shown to a seat, the consultation came first. With a designer you're meeting for the first time, it can sometimes be hard to explain the style you usually get.

But designer Jaewoon caught exactly what my boyfriend wanted right away, apparently. He'd previously had a down perm, his hair had gotten long, and he hated the way the sides stuck out. Once we explained this, Jaewoon suggested a two-block, first shaving it to 12mm and then adjusting after feedback — and so the cut began.

The cut and the 10-minute scalp treatment

The sides went into a clean 12mm two-block, the back into a neat sanggo (short, tapered) cut. Then the top and front were shaped into a natural dandy style.

I was too far away to notice, but my boyfriend said Jaewoon kept checking in throughout the cut about whether he was happy with the length and style, which he appreciated.

He got about 10 minutes of a treatment that delivers moisture deep into the scalp. My boyfriend said it felt like having a warm humidifier running on his scalp, and afterward it felt moisturized — haha. Then came the blow-dry and the first check.

But my boyfriend, wanting to minimize the sides sticking out even more, asked if the sides could be cut shorter to 9mm — and Jaewoon happily did an extra cut right away.

That gave him the much lighter, cleaner hair he'd been wanting.

Is a 45,000 won men's premium cut worth it?

What my boyfriend got at Owlly Yeoksam Branch was the men's premium cut. At ₩45,000, it might feel like a lot for a men's cut, but since it's a premium treatment that includes a personal cut plus scalp treatment, it's worth the price.

From Epl Hair to Owlly Yeoksam Branch

The name changed, but this Yeoksam hair salon is still operating in the same spot. While waiting for my boyfriend, I noticed there seemed to be a lot of regulars. It was fairly full even before evening rush hour on a weekday, so definitely book ahead.

Designer Jaewoon caught exactly the style my boyfriend wanted right away. I was even more grateful that he immediately did the extra side cut after the blow-dry.

Parking spots are apparently more available on weekends, but limited on weekdays. If you're driving, definitely call the salon ahead of time.
