Today I'm writing up my visit to Iseol Myeonok Suyu Main Branch, a Korean restaurant near the Suyu 4.19 Tower with a Bukhansan view, where I had old-style bulgogi and hoe-naengmyeon.

Iseol Myeonok, a Bukhansan-view restaurant near the Suyu 4.19 Tower, sits close to the 4.19 Democracy Cemetery and Bukhansan, so it's a great stop for a meal after hiking Bukhansan. The place is also spread across two floors, making it popular for family meals or group gatherings.

Is parking convenient?

Iseol Myeonok, near the Suyu 4.19 Democracy Cemetery, has its own spacious private parking lots at both the front and back of the building, so it was easy to visit by car.

The 1st- and 2nd-floor atmosphere — is it good for group gatherings?

The restaurant spans the 1st and 2nd floors, so it was much bigger than I expected. The overall vibe is clean and pleasant, and it looked like a great spot for family meals like a meeting-the-in-laws lunch or a 60th birthday celebration, as well as group gatherings and work dinners.

Inside, I noticed a sign showing that the restaurant had been featured on the TV show Saengsaeng Jeongbotong. Being a place that's been on TV made me even more excited before eating, and Iseol Myeonok felt like a long-running local Korean restaurant near Bukhansan that locals visit often too.

At Iseol Myeonok, near Suyu 4.19, the window looks out onto a lush, green Bukhansan view full of trees. Looking outside while waiting for the food felt healing, like the nature view was calming my mind too.

How to order and what's on the menu

Each table has its own table-order tablet, so I could take my time browsing the menu before ordering.

It ranges from naengmyeon (cold noodle) dishes like mul-naengmyeon, bibim-naengmyeon, and hoe-naengmyeon to hearty Korean meal menus like Seoul old-style bulgogi, king galbitang, and galbijjim. They're all filling options, perfect for a visit with parents or lunch after hiking Bukhansan.

What kind of side dishes come out?

After ordering, the side dishes arrived first while we waited a bit. There was mook-sabal (acorn jelly in broth), salad, japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), hoe-muchim (spicy raw fish salad), kimchi, and more — a much wider variety than I expected, filling enough to make a meal out of on its own.

This is the hoe-muchim I really enjoyed among the side dishes. It was my first time trying hoe-muchim, and it was tangy, sweet, and full of savory depth — great eaten on its own as a side or paired with the bulgogi.

I ordered the Seoul-style old bulgogi for two, one of the signature dishes at Iseol Myeonok near Suyu 4.19. It was piled generously with green onion shreds on top and simmered in a shallow broth — exactly the old-style bulgogi style I love.

The staff cooked the old-style bulgogi for us right at the table until it was fully done, so we got to chat comfortably while eating. The meat, green onion shreds, and broth blended together beautifully, and watching it bubble away looked seriously delicious.

Once fully cooked, the old-style bulgogi was pure rice-thief territory..✨ It was sweet with just the right seasoning — the perfect old-style bulgogi flavor — and since there was plenty of shallow broth, it was even better eaten with rice than the meat alone!

How was the Hamhung-style hoe-naengmyeon?

We also ordered a hoe-naengmyeon, a Hamhung-style naengmyeon, at Iseol Myeonok near Suyu 4.19. The chewy Hamhung-style noodles came with tangy-sweet sauce and raw fish, and the sauce really woke up my appetite.

I twirled the noodles around, piled some raw fish on top, and took a bite — the chewy noodles, tangy-sweet sauce, and springy hoe-muchim were exactly what I needed to perk up my appetite. Eating the hoe-naengmyeon alongside the bulgogi also cleansed my palate nicely in between bites.

A walk around the area after eating

After eating our fill, we took a walk around the restaurant, and the stream trickling down from Bukhansan along with the lush green nature was so pretty haha. If you visit Iseol Myeonok, I'd recommend taking a walk around the area after your meal too :)

Final thoughts

That was my review of eating old-style bulgogi and hoe-naengmyeon at Iseol Myeonok, a Korean restaurant with a Bukhansan view near the Suyu 4.19 Democracy Cemetery. The food was great, but the Bukhansan view really made it a complete Korean restaurant experience — my parents loved it so much that I've already saved it for a return visit haha.
