Gangbuk chicken shop for family snacks: Gimssi Chicken

In short

Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch is a chicken shop in Gangbuk, Seoul, for takeout fried chicken and dakgangjeong. I brought home a large dakgangjeong and old-fashioned whole fried chicken to share with my family. Verdict: a great market-stop snack for the whole family.

Dakgangjeong and whole fried chicken from Suyu Market

There are so many tasty things to eat at Suyu Market, but today I stopped by Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch (김씨치킨 수유시장점), an easy place to grab takeout and enjoy~~ If you usually love dakgangjeong (sweet-spicy glazed fried chicken) or chicken, it’s definitely worth dropping by at least once, so let me introduce it :)

This is Gimssi Chicken at Suyu Market~ Can you see the people lined up? Hahaha

Gimssi Chicken says it has 15 years of tradition as one of Seoul’s top three family-run dakgangjeong spots~~^^ I visited because it had newly opened up in Suyu Market!! There are so many delicious foods to browse at Suyu Market, which is half the fun, and chicken and dakgangjeong are dishes everyone—from kids to adults—loves, so they work nicely as a snack or even a meal replacement, you know?

It also looked perfect for packing up at the market and taking home to eat with family, so I recommend it for a family snack too!!

Ordering a large dakgangjeong and old-fashioned whole fried chicken

Along with dakgangjeong, there are all kinds of menu items, including old-fashioned whole fried chicken, drumsticks, wings, and wingettes~~

I ordered a large dakgangjeong for ₩13,000 and an old-fashioned whole fried chicken for ₩7,000 to take out.

It’s an open kitchen, so you can see the whole chicken-frying process. They keep frying with clean oil.

Sweet-spicy dakgangjeong and mild old-fashioned fried chicken

Gimssi Chicken’s biggest feature is apparently its secret sauce, carried on for 15 years~~ Rather than simply tossing fried chicken in seasoning, the point is that you can taste the dakgangjeong flavor built up over a long time!!!

The extra-large dakgangjeong I ordered~~!! Doesn’t it look so delicious? Off home in a hurry!

Old-fashioned whole fried chicken and dakgangjeong!! With one bite of the dakgangjeong, the crisp texture and sweet yet spicy sauce come together—it’s a flavor that dakgangjeong fans will love~^^

Seasoned chicken or dakgangjeong can get cloying quickly when the sauce is too sweet, but when it has just the right spicy kick, you keep reaching for more, right? It’s great as a snack and goes wonderfully with beer or a drink too!!!

The old-fashioned whole fried chicken pairs a crispy fried skin with mild chicken meat, giving it a different charm from intensely seasoned chicken~ It’s especially a great dish for everyone from parents’ generations to children to enjoy together, so it was just right for a family meal^^ It’s crispy outside, moist and mild inside, so it tastes good on its own; dip it in salt and you can really enjoy the savory flavor unique to old-fashioned fried chicken!!

A Suyu Market takeout menu that’s great for sharing with family

Gimssi Chicken says it uses fresh ingredients delivered every morning and only carefully selected chicken~~ Maybe that’s why the chicken had a clean, savory flavor without any unpleasant smell~

Dining-out prices have risen so much these days, but Gimssi Chicken sells a whole bone-in fried chicken for takeout at ₩9,900 to lessen the burden~~ Being able to take home a whole chicken at this price makes it an especially welcome spot for anyone who values good value~ It would be great to share with family or friends rather than eating alone, and it seemed perfect to pick up before heading home after grocery shopping at Suyu Market~^^

One of Gimssi Chicken’s signature items is its premium dakgangjeong!! You can choose mild, medium spicy, or spicy according to your taste, so it seems like a good choice even when visiting with kids who aren’t great with spicy food~ They also have nostalgic old-fashioned whole fried chicken that parents and children can enjoy together, making it a solid menu for family visits!!

Personally, I love looking around a market and taking home one tasty thing after another~ Gimssi Chicken Suyu Market Branch seems like a chicken shop that’s easy to pick up from when you visit Suyu Market~ The dakgangjeong is delicious right away, but it’s also great to bring home and share with family, so I recommend it for a weekend snack or late-night bite! So delicious

If you’re looking for dakgangjeong or chicken near Suyu Market, do stop by~~ With 15 years of dakgangjeong tradition and approachable prices, it’s a good place to visit when you’re at Suyu Market and craving chicken~ Suyu Market grocery shopping → Gimssi Chicken takeout → chicken party at home with the family! I recommend this route too 🍗❤️
