Wood-fired pizza in Mapo, Seoul: Stella at Pizzeria O

In short

Pizzeria O is a wood-fired pizza restaurant about two minutes on foot from Hapjeong Station Exit 2 in Mapo, Seoul. I ordered the star-shaped Stella pizza, carbonara, and two ades; the chewy crust and rich, savory pasta stood out. The several four-person tables looked good for groups, but there is no dedicated parking.

I visited Pizzeria O Hapjeong Station (핏제리아오 합정역점), a place I had wanted to try because I like wood-fired pizza. We had the Stella pizza and carbonara together, and I especially remember the pizza crust's chewy texture.

How close is it to Hapjeong Station, and is parking available?

The restaurant is about a two-minute walk from Hapjeong Station Exit 2, so it was easy to reach by public transit. The address is 서울특별시 마포구 양화로11길 14-5 1층, or 14-5 Yanghwa-ro 11-gil, 1F, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea. There is no dedicated parking, so I think you would need to look into nearby paid parking if arriving by car.

What is the atmosphere like for a meal with family or friends?

The interior felt pleasant, and the chandeliers hanging above the tables caught my eye.

There were several four-person tables. It looked well suited to family meals or dining with friends, and I thought it would also be fine for a date.

What pizza and pasta are on the menu?

I could check the menu from outside the restaurant. Pizza choices ranged from familiar options such as Margherita, Gorgonzola, and Quattro Formaggi to salmon pizza, O Pizza, and Margherita Bufala. There were also carbonara, ragù pasta, aglio e olio, and seafood pasta, along with alcoholic drinks and beverages.

We ordered the Stella pizza, carbonara pasta, lemon ade, and grapefruit-orange ade.

How were the fresh-fruit ades we ordered?

Because it was hot, we chose cold ades. They were made directly with fresh fruit, and there was fresh fruit in the glasses too. They had a full fruit-juice flavor, and I liked that the artificial taste did not stand out to me.

What did the star-shaped Stella pizza taste like?

The pizza and pasta arrived after the ades. The wood-fired pizzas are said to use dough cold-fermented for at least 48 hours and baked in a wood-fired oven. As soon as the Stella pizza arrived, I could smell the baked dough first.

Stella is a star-shaped pizza. It was generously topped with prosciutto and arugula, and flavored with olives, Parmigiano cheese, and more.

It had ingredients I like, so I was looking forward to it, and the crust stood out most when I tried it. I liked its chewy texture and the distinctive aroma from the wood-fired oven. The arugula, ham, and tomatoes also tasted fresh and went well together.

Was the carbonara also worth ordering?

I broke the free-range egg into the carbonara, mixed it well, and then ate it. I had come expecting pizza, so I did not have high expectations for the pasta, but I was satisfied by its rich, savory flavor and clean taste.

Both the pizza and pasta suited my taste, so as we left after the meal, we talked about what to order next time.
