Lunch at Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch before heading to Dongducheon
I had handmade pork galbi (Korean BBQ ribs) with the kids for lunch at Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch, a galbi restaurant in Yangju. We'd planned a weekend trip to Dongducheon with the kids, and I figured if we were going to be out and about all day, we'd better fill up first :D So we decided to grab lunch in Yangju before heading straight up to Dongducheon.
The food spread was really generous and delicious 😆 I thought this was just a place for good meat, but yukhoe (beef tartare) and yukjeon (beef pancake) came out as basic side dishes, plus free naengmyeon (cold noodles) on top of that — total jackpot. And for dessert, even bbeong-seukeurim (puffed rice cracker with soft-serve) and iced coffee! After enjoying it all, we were pleasantly stuffed — we'd basically had a proper lunch before our Dongducheon outing even started ❤️
Where is Manpo Galbi in Yangju, and is there parking?
Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch is on the 1st floor at 65 Songnang-ro, Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do. Search '만포갈비 양주본점' on Naver Maps or navigation to find it more easily 🚗

There's a large free parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so we could walk straight in without worrying about parking. Nothing is more tiring than circling around looking for a parking spot with kids in tow, but having easy parking put me at ease before we even sat down :D

Inside Manpo Galbi: spacious floors and private rooms
Walking inside, the space was very spacious, and it was clean without that typical BBQ-restaurant smell, which was a nice bonus.

With space on both the 1st and 2nd floors, this would work well not just for family visits but also for group gatherings or work dinners. There are also private rooms available, which would be great for a family birthday or other special occasion 🎈🥳 It's a place that's comfortable for eating with kids like us, but also good for a family gathering with parents.
What comes free: yukhoe, yukjeon and the self-serve banchan bar

The basic side dishes at Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch were more generous than expected. Not long after we sat down and ordered, dishes started arriving one by one — of course the galbi is the main event, but just seeing the table set out made me happy 😊

There was a wide variety of banchan (side dishes), and it didn't feel like they'd just piled on more dishes for the sake of quantity — each one was neatly prepared and paired well with the meat.

Wait, we ordered meat and yukhoe and yukjeon just... come out?
I was genuinely surprised that yukhoe and yukjeon came included as standard 😆 The yukhoe wasn't heavily seasoned or overpowering, so it was easy to eat, and the yukjeon paired with scallion strips was seriously delicious. The kids picked at the yukjeon while waiting for the galbi, while the adults nibbled on yukhoe and banchan — so we ended up tasting all kinds of things even before the meat was cooked. Above all, the banchan overall felt clean and not overly seasoned, which I appreciated.

Extra banchan could be topped up at a self-serve bar, which was another plus. Since food waste is apparently an issue, we took small portions at a time, went back for more, and repeated :)
Charcoal-grilled handmade pork galbi with a fruit-and-vegetable marinade

For the main dish we ordered handmade pork galbi and grilled it over charcoal. The seasoned galbi is marinated in a fruit-and-vegetable-based sauce, so the flavor wasn't artificial or overpowering, which made it even more delicious :D
Galbi can sometimes come with an overly sweet, salty marinade, but the seasoned galbi at Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch was subtly sweet while still letting the meat's own flavor come through. The meat itself was well-marinated, so it was tasty even on its own, and equally good wrapped in lettuce. My family likes mixing and matching sides when eating meat, and with so many banchan options, we could combine things however we liked, which made it even tastier.
One free Hamhung naengmyeon per person with a meat order

Manpo Galbi, a well-known Yangju restaurant, is a galbi place that offers homemade Hamhung naengmyeon (cold noodles) for free — order meat and you get one bowl per person, so we tried it at the end of our meal too. Honestly, at first I figured, 'it's a free noodle dish, probably just a light afterthought.' But once we tried it, it turned out to be genuinely excellent naengmyeon!
The combination of seasoned galbi and naengmyeon is the best — a bite of sweet, savory galbi followed by a cool forkful of noodles cuts the richness and keeps you going. So I'd recommend saving a bit of galbi to eat alongside the free naengmyeon 😊 Usually at BBQ restaurants you have to order naengmyeon separately as an add-on, but at this Yangju galbi restaurant you get one free per person just for ordering meat — genuinely generous. Between the meat, yukhoe, yukjeon, banchan, and naengmyeon, we were seriously full even though it was just lunch.
Dessert at Manpo Galbi: bbeong-seukeurim and iced coffee
Just as we were about to leave, stuffed from the meal, dessert was thoughtfully provided too. There's a reason this place is a popular Yangju restaurant.

It's bbeong-seukeurim and iced coffee 🍦☕ You put soft-serve ice cream on top of a puffed rice cracker (bbeongtwigi) — more fun and delicious than I expected.

The crunchy puffed rice cracker with soft, creamy soft-serve makes for a great after-meal dessert 😆 Getting ice cream after lunch made the meal even more fun for the kids. When we walked in for lunch, all I was thinking about was having a great time in Dongducheon — but by the time we left, I was full and in a great mood too.
Is Manpo Galbi Yangju good for a family meal with kids?

We properly enjoyed delicious galbi, generous banchan, yukhoe and yukjeon, free naengmyeon, and dessert. The seasoned galbi with its fruit-and-vegetable marinade was easy on the palate rather than overpowering, and the meat near the bone was especially tender and delicious. The banchan didn't feel like filler either — each one was worth pairing with the meat, so I kept reaching for more throughout the meal.
Above all, it's a galbi restaurant using 100% real pork ribs, with a spacious dining area, private rooms, and convenient parking — all making it a great place to visit with family. If you want to eat galbi with family in Yangju, and want more than just meat — yukhoe, yukjeon, free naengmyeon, and dessert too — this is one to remember!
If I'm ever passing through Yangju again or planning a family meal out, this is a place I'd definitely want to visit again. Especially if you're planning a trip to Dongducheon or Yangju, I'd wholeheartedly recommend it as a solid Yangju lunch spot before heading out 😆👍
