Goyang restaurant for beef shank and tendon suyuk: Doonjeong
In short
Doonjeong is a Korean beef gomtang (clear beef bone soup) restaurant in Hyangdong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi, picked for the Blue Ribbon Survey two years running in 2025 and 2026. On a weekend lunch, a family of three ordered the assorted boiled beef platter (modum suyuk) at 39,000 won and the Korean beef tartare bibimbap at 15,000 won, and the staff brought the toddler a separate bowl of broth-warmed baby rice soup. Clear yet deep broth with silky beef shank and tendon makes Doonjeong an easy choice for a family meal with young children.

My wife, our little one Hamin, and I headed out to Hyangdong for lunch this weekend. As the weather's been cooling down, I've been craving clear broth and plain, honest meat over anything spicy. So we went to a place known as a Hyangdong favorite, a Korean beef gomtang (beef bone soup) specialist — Doonjeong!

It's been selected for the Blue Ribbon Survey two years running, in 2025 and 2026, so I went in with high expectations. Bottom line up front: all three of us left happy :)
Where do you park at Doonjeong? One hour covered at Hyangdong No.1 public lot
Doonjeong doesn't have its own parking lot, but Hyangdong No.1 public parking lot is just a 3-minute walk away. The lot is spacious so parking was easy, and the restaurant covers 1 hour of parking for you 👍
There's also a park nearby, perfect for a walk with Hamin after the meal. Eat well, then stroll around for a bit — the perfect weekend lunch combo haha
Inside Doonjeong in Hyangdong, Goyang
Doonjeong has a black-toned exterior with full glass windows, so you can see inside from the street. There's a Blue Ribbon standee at the entrance, and once you step in, a wall reads 'a bowl that carries warmth.'

Just like the name suggests, the vibe is tidy and calm.
It's an open kitchen, so you can watch the broth simmering away in a big pot — and it put any hygiene worries to rest right away.

They use brassware and earthenware, so the table setting alone felt a cut above. The staff were uniformly kind too :)
Doonjeong menu and prices

Doonjeong's signature dishes
They also have a good range of traditional Korean liquors — yakju, cheongju, and makgeolli.

Here's what we ordered.
- Assorted boiled beef (modum suyuk)
- Korean beef tartare bibimbap
What the meal at Doonjeong was actually like
① The side dishes
Napa cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi came out in earthenware bowls.

They say all ingredients are domestic, and the kimchi was well-fermented, just right to eat alongside the meat.
② Assorted boiled beef platter (39,000 won)
This was the star of the day.

Beef shank, tendon, and brisket were laid out neatly on a wide plate — generous just from the look of it. The accompanying broth is genuinely clear. But take one spoonful and it's way deeper than you'd expect. Clear yet deep — that's exactly the phrase for it.
The beef shank is truly melt-in-your-mouth tender. It pulls apart moist along the grain and dissolves in your mouth. And the surprise dark horse — the tendon! Honestly I didn't expect much from it, but it was cooked chewy without being tough, and personally it was my top pick of the day haha. The brisket had that rich, savory fat flavor still alive, and dipping it lightly in the soy sauce was just perfect.

The meat overall was so tender that when I cut it small for Hamin, he ate it right up.
③ Korean beef tartare bibimbap (15,000 won)
A generous mound of raw Korean beef tartare comes piled on top of minari (water celery) and other vegetables.

This pairs so well with the minari. The fragrant minari cuts through the richness of the tartare cleanly, so once you mix it all together, the bowl disappears fast.

Taking a bite of bibimbap between spoonfuls of the boiled beef felt like a palate reset :)
④ Baby rice soup (on the house)
This one genuinely moved me.

Seeing that we had Hamin with us, they brought out a small bowl of rice soaked in clear broth just for him. The rice had been gently warmed through in the broth (toryeom-style), just the right temperature for a baby to eat. Hamin ate almost all of it haha. This kind of thoughtfulness toward families with young kids is something that really stays with you.
What Doonjeong does well, and what it doesn't
Pros
- ✅ Clear yet deep beef broth
- ✅ Tender boiled beef, especially the shank and tendon
- ✅ Free toddler rice soup — thoughtful care for families with kids
- ✅ 1 hour of public parking covered + a park nearby for a stroll
- ✅ Tidy table setting, kind service
Cons
- ❌ No on-site parking (use the public lot)
- ❌ Popular enough that there's a wait at lunch peak — reservations recommended
Recommended for :)
- Anyone looking for a family meal at a Hyangdong favorite
- Anyone wanting a non-spicy Korean spread
- Anyone who wants boiled beef with traditional liquor in the evening
The verdict in one line
One spoonful of the clear broth settled my stomach, and the tender boiled beef put me in an even better mood. With the toddler rice soup on top of it all, Hamin, my wife, and I all left satisfied.
