Busan mulhoe restaurant with abalone porridge to share: Suseong Susan

In short

Suseong Susan is a mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and sashimi bibimbap restaurant in Sinho-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan. Ordering the three-fish mulhoe combo at 20,000 won (tuna, flounder, anchovy) together with abalone porridge at 15,000 won meant an icy broth with the sashimi served on its own plate, a bowl of rice and seaweed soup on the side for a sashimi bibimbap, and porridge packed with abalone innards. For premium sashimi at a fair price in Busan, Suseong Susan is the answer.

Signature photo of mulhoe at Suseong Susan in Sinho-dong

Suseong Susan in Sinho-dong, Busan, impressed me with genuinely premium sashimi at a great price.

This is Joy, hitting two great restaurants in one day! Today I'm introducing a mulhoe and sashimi bibimbap spot in Myeongji where the sashimi that comes in the mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) was so fresh and delicious — Suseong Susan.

Suseong Susan hours and parking in Sinho-dong

Suseong Susan is in Sinho-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan. Hours are 11:00–15:00, with last order at 14:30. It's closed September 24–27, and street parking is available.

Suseong Susan's hours and parking information

There's no dedicated parking lot, but you can just park on the street.

It's already word-of-mouth famous among locals as a mulhoe spot — for its location, Suseong Susan had way more customers than I expected! It seems to be equally well known for its Myeongji sashimi bibimbap.

When I first walked in there were so many customers I didn't get a chance to photograph the interior, so I took these once it quieted down near the end. The place is kept clean and tidy. And there was more takeout than I expected!

I checked out the various patents and even a signature from the Gangseo-gu district office head on my way in. There are aprons at the entrance too, so grab one.

Ordering three-fish mulhoe (20,000 won) and abalone porridge (15,000 won)

At Suseong Susan I ordered the three-fish mulhoe combo for ₩20,000 (tuna, flounder, anchovy) and abalone porridge for ₩15,000. The mulhoe comes with the icy broth and the sashimi served separately, so we were also given instructions on the order to eat it.

Instructions for the order of eating Suseong Susan's mulhoe
  • The icy broth grows in volume once it melts
  • Add the seasoning sauce if you want it spicier
  • Add the thin noodles (somyeon) last
Full table spread of Suseong Susan's three-fish mulhoe combo

The three-fish mulhoe at Suseong Susan comes as a full table spread. You get to enjoy the three types of sashimi both together and separately, and generously portioned. Seaweed soup, side dishes, abalone sashimi, and noodles — it's all so plentiful.

Plate of tuna, flounder, and anchovy sashimi

The sashimi was fresh, generous, and neatly arranged — is this a mulhoe restaurant or a sashimi restaurant?! It looked delicious and I got to enjoy the texture of each of the three fish separately, which made picking through them fun. This might just be incredible value for money 💕

Rice and seaweed soup served alongside the mulhoe

Other places don't usually give you rice with mulhoe, but Suseong Susan gives you a bowl of rice and seaweed soup too! There's so much that you could easily turn it into a sashimi bibimbap.

Four basic side dishes including acorn jelly and sautéed fish cake

The side dishes are simple — acorn jelly, sautéed king oyster mushrooms, sautéed fish cake, and braised soybeans, and they taste simple too, haha.

Bowl of mulhoe with icy broth and a mountain of vegetables

They give you a mountain of vegetables with a broth that's pure icy slush — it looks small but grows a lot once it melts! It's so mouthwatering it could burst right through your screen, haha.

A piece of abalone sashimi served separately

The abalone sashimi had a nice chewy bite too — great texture and very fresh.

Since the sashimi comes separately, dipping it in soy sauce with wasabi made me feel like I really came here for sashimi, haha. You get to enjoy tuna, flounder, and anchovy sashimi all in one sitting.

The tangy, refreshing mulhoe broth went so well with the vegetables — one bite and your appetite kicks right in! How is the seasoning this good, haha. You need to add the noodles once the broth has fully melted, otherwise the noodles freeze up and get stiff.

It's not overly spicy or salty — eaten with the sashimi it's clean, savory, and refreshing, so you just keep eating. With the lingering late-summer heat, it was so satisfying to eat something this cool and plentiful!

I said to my boyfriend, "just one bite" — and the pieces of sashimi were all stuck together, haha, jackpot for me... haha.

Abalone porridge served with seaweed soup and cubed radish kimchi

What is the 15,000 won abalone porridge like?

I ordered the warm abalone porridge — at ₩15,000, Suseong Susan's abalone porridge comes with seaweed soup and a generous portion. The side dishes are the same, but the porridge comes with an extra side of cubed radish kimchi that paired really well with it.

Greenish abalone porridge colored by the abalone innards

Just from the color, you can tell how much abalone innards went in — greenish and nutty, I loved it! It's topped generously with plump, fresh abalone and finished with chopped green onion and sesame oil for a fantastic look.

With the very first spoonful, the abalone porridge felt smooth and nutty, and the distinctive oceanic aroma and nuttiness of the abalone innards were really good.

A spoonful of abalone porridge

With no strong seasoning added, it let the natural flavor of the ingredients shine — a light yet satisfying meal. Biting into the plump abalone was so good ♡ It also paired nicely with the mulhoe broth.

Is Suseong Susan worth a visit?

Suseong Susan really draws in the locals! It's famous as a Myeongji sashimi bibimbap and Myeongji mulhoe spot, so you may have to wait on weekends, but it's worth it for the flavor. A place to enjoy premium sashimi at great value.
