Goyang bakery café: egg-chicken hot dog and wrapped bread, Baedagol

Today I went back to Baedagol Bakery House, a place I genuinely visit all the time. It's not too far from Seoul, parking is easy, and the bread is delicious, so I often come here for a drive with my family.

This wasn't my first visit — I tend to think of it whenever the seasons change and end up coming back. Last time it was mango season, and this time it was melon season, so I went again. I really love how the fruit menu here changes with every season.

Inside Baedagol Bakery House: first floor, second floor and outdoor terrace

Baedagol Bakery House is spacious, so every time I visit there's usually plenty of room. It's split between the 1st and 2nd floors, plus there's an outdoor terrace, so you can pick a seat depending on the weather or your mood that day. On days like this, when the heat is starting to break and it's getting cooler, the terrace seats were especially popular.

We went up to the 2nd floor this time. The tables up there have decent spacing and are wide enough to fit several breads and drinks at once. It's also a pretty good spot to open a laptop and work — I actually saw a few people there studying or working. It's a nice fit not just for a quick coffee and go, but for days when you want to settle in and stay a while.

What's new at Baedagol: bread now wrapped one loaf at a time

It hasn't been that long since my last visit, but I noticed a change while picking out bread this time. The loaves are now individually wrapped in plastic, unlike before. Since a bakery café is a space where lots of people browse and handle the bread, I personally liked this — it felt more hygienic.

I hadn't eaten lunch before coming this time, so I picked bread that could stand in as a hearty meal rather than just dessert. There were so many options I wasn't sure what to get at first, but a hot dog I'd never noticed before caught my eye, so I grabbed it right away.

The hot dog with egg and spicy chicken

This hot dog was a menu item I saw for the first time on this visit, and it was totally my type! It's got both egg and spicy chicken inside, and that combination worked way better than I expected. It felt different from a typical sausage hot dog, so I enjoyed it even more.

Best of all, the filling was pretty generous, so it was much more filling than bread alone. Thanks to the egg and chicken, I got some protein in too, and the portion was solid enough to work as a full meal replacement on a day when I'd skipped lunch, like this one. I'd definitely order it again next time!

Six-clove garlic bread: softer after warming

Six-clove garlic bread is one of my favorites, so I picked it again this time. The garlic bread itself has a sweet, savory flavor I like, but what I really love is the combination of the cream inside with the garlic bread.

This time I had it warmed up, and the bread turned out much softer and easier to eat, with the cream blending in naturally. If you like garlic bread, I'd definitely recommend having it warmed!

Iced americano: low acidity, light body

At a bakery café you end up drinking coffee alongside bread, so the taste of the americano actually matters quite a bit. This one didn't have much acidity — it was smooth and light. It's a style that doesn't get in the way of the bread's flavor and pairs easily with it, which matched well with the bakery menu. Personally, when I'm eating several kinds of bread, I prefer this over something too strong or too acidic.

Milk tea: sweetness kept in check

We ordered milk tea together for the first time this visit, and I liked that it wasn't too sweet. It had the characteristic milk tea aroma without being cloying, so it went well with the bread without feeling heavy. When you're eating sweet bread, a drink that's too sweet gets old fast, but this paired nicely with everything we ordered that day.

How was the melon season menu at Baedagol?

One of the reasons I keep coming back to Baedagol Bakery House is the seasonal menu. Last time I visited during mango season, and this time there were melon items, which gave it a whole different feel. Even at the same café, the fruit menu changes with the seasons, so it's fun to see something new every visit.

If you're like me and love desserts with seasonal fruit, it's worth stopping by whenever the season changes. Sadly, the melon dessert I wanted was sold out that day 😭

A longtime regular's verdict on Baedagol Bakery House

Baedagol Bakery House is somewhere I come often with my family, and this visit was satisfying overall. It's not too far a drive from Seoul, and the easy parking makes it stress-free to visit with family.

There's a wide variety of bread, and with the space spanning the 1st floor, 2nd floor, and outdoor terrace, it rarely feels cramped even after staying a while. I imagine a new fruit menu will show up again once the season changes, so I'll have to come back and see what's new. It's a great bakery café to visit comfortably with family, or to stop by when you want to spend some relaxed time eating bread.
